Start a return from Purchase History in the Walmart app or at Walmart.com. Open the affected item, choose Start a return, select the damage or defect reason, then follow the options Walmart offers for that order. A refund or replacement may be available; eligibility and return methods depend on the item and order.
Start a return in Purchase History
- Open the Walmart app or Walmart.com and go to Purchase History.
- Open the relevant order, select the damaged or defective item, and choose Start a return.
- Choose the reason that best describes the damage or defect. If the flow offers a comment box, briefly describe the problem.
- Review the available resolution, such as a refund or replacement, and choose a return method offered for that item. Submit the request and follow the order-specific instructions.
Walmart’s online return instructions describe the available flow and possible return methods. If the item is oversized or the listed carrier option is impractical, contact Walmart customer care for guidance.

Walmart’s policy says a damaged or defective Walmart.com item may be eligible
to be returned by mail or to a Walmart store and may qualify
for a refund or replacement. Those are possibilities, not guarantees. Use the options displayed in your order rather than assuming a specific outcome or free pickup.

Check the return-by date and seller
Walmart’s return policy, accessed in 2026, says most Walmart.com items can be returned within 90 days after purchase or receipt, subject to exceptions. Items sold and shipped by Marketplace sellers may have a 30-day return window, with participation and item-specific exceptions. Check the latest eligible return or replacement date displayed in Purchase History and follow the policy that applies to your seller and item. See Walmart’s Standard Return Policy for policy details.
Keep the packaging and follow up on the refund
Keep the order details and packaging while the request is being resolved. Walmart recommends keeping the manufacturer packaging and receipt for at least 90 days after purchase.

Walmart’s refunds page, accessed in 2026, lists refunds to credit or debit cards as taking up to 7 days. It lists a within-3-hours timeframe for Walmart Gift Card, Walmart Cash, Walmart Balance, EBT/SNAP, and certain other payment types. Refunds generally go to the original payment method; for an online purchase, Walmart Balance may be used if that method cannot be used. Check the current refund information and your account or order status, since methods and timing can change. Outbound shipping charges are not always refunded.

For a Marketplace bundle, Walmart’s bundle guidance says you can request a replacement for the affected item; the request is processed for that item rather than the whole bundle. An eligible individual item may also be returned under the Marketplace Return Policy, with the refund based on that item’s prorated bundle value. This handling is specific to eligible Marketplace bundles.
