Samsung Galaxy update support depends on the model. The Galaxy S25 and S26 series are promised seven generations of Android/One UI upgrades and seven years of security updates, counted from global launch. Selected earlier Galaxy devices received shorter commitments, so check the exact model rather than assuming one duration applies to every Galaxy phone.
Android upgrades and security updates are different
An OS-upgrade commitment counts generations of Android and One UI upgrades. A security-update commitment describes how long Samsung plans to provide security patches. These are separate promises: seven years of security updates does not, by itself, establish a particular number of Android upgrades.
Samsung’s commitments apply to eligible devices and named product series, and have changed over time. Samsung says update availability and timing can vary by model, market and network provider. Its 2022 policy announcement describes eligibility categories; it is not a complete current list of every supported model.

“Up to” matters: the 2022 policy did not promise the maximum to every Galaxy phone. Likewise, don’t treat a series-level figure as proof that every regional or carrier variant has identical delivery timing.

Does seven years mean monthly patches for seven years?
No. Samsung’s live Security Update Scope lists devices by monthly, quarterly and biannual release cadence. A long security-support period is not a promise that every listed phone receives a patch every month. The scope list can change, and delivery timing may differ by model, market and carrier. Check the current listing for the exact phone.
Being listed establishes Samsung’s current stated release scope, not a fixed final patch date. Samsung’s published material does not provide a complete end-date table covering every Galaxy model, region and carrier variant. Its Security Updates page provides the current update information.

How to check support for your specific Galaxy
- Identify the full model. Note the generation and relevant regional or carrier variant; a broad family name may not identify the exact device.
- Find Samsung’s model-specific commitment. Look for an official announcement that states the Android/One UI upgrade count and security-update duration separately.
- Check when the period starts. For the cited S25 and S26 commitments, Samsung specifies global launch. Don’t calculate an end date unless the launch date and applicable model promise are confirmed.
- Check the live security scope. Search the Samsung Security Update Scope for the model and note whether it is listed and at what cadence.
- Allow for delivery variation. Samsung says timing and availability depend on model, market and network provider.
How to compare update support between Galaxy phones
Compare like with like rather than reducing support to one number:
- Android/One UI upgrade generations
- Years of security updates
- When the stated period begins
- The phone’s current security-update cadence and regional or carrier delivery
An OS-generation count and a security-support duration measure different things. For a used or older phone, the live security scope is especially useful: a historical promise does not show whether Samsung currently lists the model for monthly, quarterly or biannual updates.
