On Android, update Chrome through Google Play; on iPhone or iPad, use the App Store. Mobile updates may install automatically depending on your app-store settings.
Update Chrome on Windows or Mac
- Open Chrome.
- Select the three-dot More menu in the upper-right corner.
- Select Help, then About Google Chrome.
- Keep the About page open while Chrome checks for an update. If one is available, select Relaunch to apply it. If Relaunch does not appear, Google says Chrome is already on the latest version available to your browser.
If you select Not now instead, the update applies the next time Chrome restarts. Chrome also normally updates in the background after you close and reopen it. Google says open tabs and windows are restored after a restart, but Incognito windows are not. On Windows, close Chrome’s windows and tabs, then reopen the browser. On Mac, if Chrome is installed in the Applications folder, an option is available to update it automatically for all users. Google’s desktop update instructions cover the update and restart process.
Update Chrome on Linux or Chromebook
- Linux: Update Chrome with your Linux distribution’s package manager; the Windows and Mac menu route above does not apply.
- Chromebook: Update ChromeOS to update Chrome on the device.

Update Chrome on Android
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Tap your profile icon.
- Choose Manage apps & device.
- Under Updates available, find Chrome.
- Tap Update.
Chrome may update automatically, depending on your Play Store settings. Google’s Android help page lists Android 10 and up as supported. For details, see Google’s instructions for updating Chrome on Android.

Update Chrome on iPhone or iPad
- Open the App Store.
- Tap your profile icon.
- Scroll to Available Updates and find Chrome.
- Tap Update. If prompted, enter your Apple ID password.
Chrome may update automatically depending on your App Store settings. Google’s search results for its iPhone and iPad help page have shown different minimum iOS versions, so a definitive current minimum is not established here. Check Google’s iPhone and iPad update guidance for current compatibility information.

On Windows or Mac, leave the About Google Chrome page open so it can check. If no Relaunch button appears, Google says the browser is on its latest version. On Android or iPhone and iPad, check Chrome in the relevant app store’s updates list; automatic installation depends on that store’s settings. Linux users should check their package manager, while Chromebook users should check for a ChromeOS update.
