If you can’t sign in to EPFO, start with the error you’re facing: use Forgot Password for a forgotten password, follow the alternate mobile-number recovery route if your old registered SIM is unavailable, and use UMANG for current UAN activation. If the portal reports service disruption, repeated login attempts may not help. Use only official EPFO and UMANG channels, and never share an OTP or pay someone to unlock your account.
Choose the recovery route that matches your problem

Log in or reset a forgotten password
Open the official EPFO Member Interface. The login page asks for your UAN, password, and CAPTCHA, and includes a Forgot Password option.
- Open Forgot Password. Enter your UAN and the CAPTCHA shown on the official page.
- Verify the OTP. EPFO’s UAN and KYC FAQ describes an OTP sent to the mobile number seeded with your UAN.
- Set a new password. Follow the portal’s displayed instructions to complete the reset.
If you can’t access the registered mobile number
EPFO’s FAQ describes an alternate recovery route for members whose registered mobile has changed. In the Forgot Password flow, choose the option for another mobile number, then provide the requested basic details—name, date of birth, and gender—and Aadhaar or PAN details for KYC matching. If the details match, enter the new mobile number, verify its OTP, and reset the password.
Portal labels and screens can change, and the FAQ may not reflect every current interface detail. Follow the options actually displayed on the official Member Interface; don’t enter identity details on a site reached through an unsolicited message or caller’s link.

Change the mobile number linked to your UAN
Once you have access to your account, EPFO’s FAQ says the UAN-linked mobile can be changed in Member Profile. If your Aadhaar is not linked to a mobile number, the FAQ directs you to visit an Aadhaar Service Centre.
Activate or generate a UAN through UMANG
The current EPFO Member Interface says portal-based UAN activation has been discontinued. It directs members to UMANG for activation of an existing UAN and generation of a new one, using Aadhaar-based Face Authentication (FAT).

- Open UMANG and go to EPFO Services.
- Select UAN Services Through Face Auth.
- Choose UAN Activation and follow the instructions shown in the app. For a new UAN, use the applicable generation option presented there.
The EPFO UMANG user manual lists corrective steps for errors in the flows it describes:
- Invalid Aadhaar or mobile information: Recheck the details entered.
- OTP error: Resend or re-enter the OTP as the flow allows.
- Face-authentication failure: Retry; contact support if the documented retry does not resolve it.
These steps address the errors listed in the manual; they do not establish the cause of every OTP-delivery or service error. The Member Interface lists 14470 for help.

When login or OTP errors may be service-related
EPFO’s Member Portal has reported database consolidation, a software upgrade, phased service availability, and a post-migration stabilization period. Such conditions can affect access, but a service notice does not identify the cause of any one member’s error. Check the live notice; if EPFO reports a disruption or stabilization delay, retry later rather than repeatedly submitting requests, especially during peak hours.
If the relevant recovery or activation steps do not work, use the helpdesk number shown on the current Member Interface: 14470. Share account information only in an authenticated official workflow.

Protect your account while seeking help
- Never give a caller or message sender your password or OTP.
- EPFO warns that it does not request Aadhaar, PAN, or bank details over the phone, and does not ask members to deposit money.
- Treat unsolicited offers to unlock an account for payment as suspicious. Use the official EPFO portal, UMANG, or the helpdesk listed by EPFO.
