Docsy has not been shown to have joined the Linux Foundation. The documented connection is an event: Google’s October 2, 2026 roundup listed a keynote about Docsy at Open Source Summit Europe, a Linux Foundation event in Prague. Separately, Docsy 0.17.0 added experimental support for linking documentation pages to an llms.txt index, helping AI agents discover content without guaranteeing that they understand or safely act on it.
What is Docsy?
Docsy is an open-source Hugo theme for building technical documentation websites—not a standalone publishing platform or an officially supported Google product. A theme supplies a site’s presentation and structure; publishing a Docsy site still involves building and hosting a Hugo website. The Google/docsy repository describes the project and links to its user guide.
Did Docsy join the Linux Foundation?
The cited announcement does not establish a transfer of Docsy to the Linux Foundation, a new membership, or a change in project governance. Google’s October 2, 2026 open-source roundup lists Open Source Summit Europe, scheduled for October 7–9 in Prague, Czechia, and a planned keynote by Google Open Source Programs Office’s Erin McKean about Docsy and technical documentation for people and AI agents. That is event context, not evidence that the Foundation now owns or governs Docsy.
The distinction matters because the Linux Foundation has announced other work in open agent infrastructure. It launched the Agent2Agent project in June 2025 and announced the Agentic AI Foundation in December 2025, but neither announcement establishes a relationship between Docsy and those projects or a change in Docsy’s governance. Can AI agents read Docsy documentation?
Docsy 0.17.0 introduced experimental support for adding HTML links from pages to an llms.txt index. The project’s August 30, 2026 release report and upgrade guide describes the feature as agent discovery support. It can help an agent locate documentation intended to be surfaced through the index; it does not demonstrate that an agent can correctly interpret every page, follow all site navigation, or safely execute instructions found there.
What an llms.txt index does
An llms.txt file is a way to point language-model-based tools toward relevant site content. In Docsy 0.17.0, the experimental feature adds links from page HTML to the index. It should be understood as a discovery aid, not a guarantee of model access, comprehension, accuracy, or safe behavior.

What do you need to build a Docsy site?
Docsy’s repository lists Hugo Extended and PostCSS as prerequisites. Its recommended example-project and Hugo-module workflow also requires Go. The repository describes several ways to use the theme, including an NPM package, Hugo module, Git submodule, or a direct clone; exact steps depend on the method and current release.
- Install the build tools. Set up Hugo Extended and PostCSS; install Go as well if you use the recommended Hugo-module approach.
- Choose an installation method. Follow the repository’s current instructions for the example project/Hugo module, NPM package, Git submodule, or clone approach.
- Build and publish the site. Generate the Hugo site locally or through a continuous-build host. Docsy is the theme; it does not itself provide hosting.
For the exact supported versions and current commands, use the project repository and its linked guide rather than relying on an older setup walkthrough.

Do you need to buy anything to use Docsy?
No physical product purchase is established as necessary: Docsy is open-source software. A site does need an environment to build and publish it, but the project’s About page describes hosting as optional and notes that a provider supporting continuous builds can publish changes committed to the repository.
