Check the Google Play system update version

Open your device’s Settings app.

Tap About phone or About tablet, then tap Android version.

Find Google Play system update on the Android version details screen. That screen also lists your Android version, Android security update, and build number. Google’s Android version instructions describe this information.
Check for and install an available update

In Settings, open Security & privacy, then System & updates.

Tap Google Play system update.

If the device offers an update, follow the onscreen instructions. The available action and wording may differ by device; there is no single button or version number that applies to every Android device.
Google recommends connecting to Wi-Fi and charging your device to at least 75% before updating. Update timing varies by device, manufacturer, and carrier. Google says most system updates and security patches happen automatically.

If you can’t find the setting or no update appears
The menu path is different
Settings labels and locations vary across devices and software versions. Search within Settings for “Google Play system update.” If you cannot find that option, Android Help also gives System > Software updates as a general route to software update status. This may show broader system-update information rather than the dedicated Google Play system update screen. See Google’s Android system update guidance.
No update is offered
Restart the device, then check the Google Play system update screen again. An update that is not currently offered may not be available to install manually through these settings. Availability and schedules vary, so the screen may show no update even when you have checked the correct place.

Make sure you are checking the right kind of update

Google Play system update: The setting covered here; use its dedicated Settings screen to check for an available update.

Android version and security update: These are separate details listed on the Android version screen. An Android OS update or security patch is not the same label as a Google Play system update.

Google Play services: A system service that connects apps to Google services. Its update instructions are separate from this process, and Google distinguishes it from the Play Store app. See Google’s Play services guidance.
