The right fix depends on your exact Mac model, macOS release, OCLP version, graphics hardware, and Wi‑Fi card.
Before troubleshooting, identify your Mac and installation
Record these details before changing settings or considering replacement hardware:
- Your Mac model and model year.
- The installed macOS version and OCLP version.
- Your graphics hardware and Wi‑Fi card, if known.
- Whether the problem began immediately after installation or after a macOS update.
- The precise symptom: no Wi‑Fi networks, inability to join a network, missing graphics acceleration, failure to sleep, an immediate wake, or a reboot during hibernation.
These distinctions matter: a patch removed by an update calls for a different response than a Wi‑Fi card unsupported in a particular macOS release, and a hibernation reboot is not the same as every other sleep problem.
Check and reinstall OCLP root patches
Open OpenCore Legacy Patcher and check the status of Post-Install Root Patches. These patches can restore drivers and other functionality, including Wi‑Fi and graphics support, on affected Macs. Follow OCLP’s Post-Install Root Patch instructions for your configuration.

If the patches are missing or no longer applied, connect to the internet if possible and run the applicable root patching process. OCLP notes that macOS updates can wipe root patches, so a problem that returns after an update may mean they need to be installed again.
If patching cannot download everything
Some required support packages must be downloaded. In some cases, the first patch run installs only Wi‑Fi support so the Mac can get online. Once connected, run root patching again to install the remaining patches; graphics functionality may remain incomplete until then. A usable Ethernet connection can let OCLP download and install everything in one run. If your Mac lacks an Ethernet port, check its ports and macOS compatibility before choosing an adapter; OCLP does not recommend a particular model.

Fix Wi‑Fi connection and compatibility problems
For legacy Wi‑Fi cards on Monterey
OCLP documents a Monterey issue affecting some legacy cards. If the network does not appear or a normal connection attempt fails, try connecting through the Wi‑Fi menu’s Other option, or add the network in Network settings. See OCLP’s troubleshooting guidance for this symptom.
Check card support for your exact macOS version
Compatibility varies by macOS release. For Ventura, OCLP’s model and wireless compatibility notes identify Atheros cards and Broadcom BCM94328/BCM94322 as unsupported in that context. The same notes list BCM943224, BCM94331, BCM94360, and BCM943602 families as supported. Do not apply that Ventura list to Monterey or another release without checking its compatibility information.

If your card is unsupported, first confirm the exact Mac and card combination against OCLP’s relevant notes. Consider hardware replacement only if a compatible option exists for that specific Mac; compatibility of a card family alone is not a guarantee that it will work in every model.
Restore graphics acceleration
If the display feels unusually slow, visual effects are missing, or graphics acceleration is unavailable, check Post-Install Root Patches and apply the relevant patches through OCLP. OCLP identifies graphics drivers among the functions root patches can restore; its troubleshooting page covers the “No Graphics Acceleration” symptom.

If the first patch run installed Wi‑Fi support but could not download other assets, the graphics issue may simply mean patching is unfinished. Get the Mac online, then run root patching again to complete the remaining patches.

Before changing power settings, determine what actually happens: the Mac may fail to enter sleep, wake immediately, show a display problem after waking, or reboot while entering hibernation with a “Sleep Wake Failure.” These symptoms do not establish the same cause.

If the Mac reboots when entering hibernation
For some models with this specific hibernation-reboot symptom, OCLP documents the following temporary Terminal workaround:
sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0This changes the system’s hibernation mode. It is a model-specific workaround, not a general fix for failure to sleep, immediate wake, or display trouble after wake. Consult OCLP’s troubleshooting page to confirm the symptom applies before using it.
If sleep or wake fails in another way
Dortania’s general sleep troubleshooting guide lists USB devices, GPUs, Thunderbolt, network interfaces, NVMe storage, and CPU power management as possible contributors. Disconnect nonessential USB devices during diagnosis and test whether the symptom changes. The guide covers OpenCore configurations broadly, including Hackintosh systems, so its list is a troubleshooting checklist—not proof of the cause on a particular unsupported Mac.
What to do after a macOS update
After an update, check OCLP’s Post-Install Root Patches status and reinstall the applicable patches if needed. If patching requires support packages and Wi‑Fi is not yet working, arrange another network path—such as usable Ethernet—so the patch process can finish.
