No, don’t rely on Gemini for emergency calls. Google tells Android users to place emergency calls through the phone’s own calling app, and its “Call for me” page says Gemini cannot call emergency services such as 911. Whether Gemini can call without confirmation depends on which feature you mean: ordinary Gemini calls on Android can be allowed from the lock screen, while the agentic “Call for me” feature requires you to review the task and tap a start button.
Emergency calls: use the phone’s dialer
Google’s help page for the Gemini Phone app on Android says not to use it to call emergency services and to use the device’s calling app directly (Make calls with the Gemini mobile app on Android). The separate “Call for me” help page states that Gemini cannot call emergency services such as 911. Google Assistant speaker and display documentation carries the same limit for emergency-service calls (Make calls on your Google Assistant device).
In an emergency, open the phone’s dialer or use the emergency button on the lock screen, rather than asking an assistant.
Two different Gemini calling features
The confusion comes from Google using Gemini for two different flows. Compare them before asking whether a call needs confirmation.

Ordinary Gemini calls on Android
Requirements
- An Android phone or tablet with an active mobile plan.
- The Gemini mobile app.
- Phone permission granted to the Google app.
Google says this Phone app feature is not available in Gemini in Google Messages or the Gemini web app, and not in Live chats (Google).

Calling while the phone is locked
In Gemini settings, under “Gemini on lock screen,” you can turn on “Allow calls and messages without unlocking.” Google’s lock-screen help describes the same option to allow calls and texts without unlocking, and notes that some requests may still require you to unlock, especially ones involving personal content (How your Gemini mobile app can help when your phone is locked).
This setting controls lock-screen access. It does not mean every call is placed with no prompt, and Google doesn’t document a universal rule either way. If you want to be sure of a particular phrasing on your own phone, test it with a contact whose number you don’t mind dialing.

“Call for me”: review, then start
For the agentic feature, Google instructs you to review Gemini’s task summary, including the number and details it will share, and then tap “Call for me.” Before the call connects you can cancel. During the call you can follow a transcript or audio, or take over (Ask Gemini to handle your everyday phone calls).
What it is for
Business tasks such as asking about hours, availability, service quotes, reservations, phone menus and hold times. Each call opens with Gemini saying it is a Google AI assistant calling on your behalf on a recorded line, and giving your name.

What it won’t do
- Emergency calls.
- Financial transactions.
- Sharing sensitive personal information.
- Telemarketing.
Who can use it
Google describes a gradual rollout. Per its help page at the time of writing, you must:
- Be at least 18 and in the US.
- Use a Pixel 11 with a US SIM.
- Be signed in to the Gemini mobile app, with a Google AI subscription.
- Use the public beta Phone by Google app and the latest Gemini app.
- Have the device language set to English.
It currently calls only US phone numbers. Calls use your phone’s mobile network and number, so standard carrier rates apply. These conditions are likely to change as the rollout continues, so check the help page for your account.
