Gemini is the better-documented choice for working directly inside Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Google describes Gemini features in all three apps, including spreadsheet actions and editable slide-deck generation. Claude can use Google Docs as context through Anthropic’s Google Drive integration, but Anthropic says that integration does not currently support Sheets or Slides. That difference establishes workflow fit—not which assistant produces better results. Both products’ access depends on account eligibility and feature availability.
How Claude and Gemini work with Google Workspace
The main distinction is where the documented work happens. Gemini features are described as part of Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Claude’s cited Google Drive integration brings Docs into a Claude chat or private project as source material. It is not documented there as a way to edit Sheets or Slides from Claude.

Google Docs: choose based on whether you want in-app help or document reasoning
Gemini is the clearer fit if you want assistance within Docs for drafting, revising, or summarizing. Claude may fit when you want to discuss the text of a Google Doc in a Claude conversation or use it as private project context. The documented Claude integration extracts text, so it is not a substitute for an assistant that interprets images embedded in a document.
Google Sheets: Gemini has the documented spreadsheet workflow
For formulas, analysis, charts, or changes to spreadsheet structure and formatting, Google documents specific Gemini capabilities in Sheets. The cited Claude Drive integration does not provide Sheets access. That does not establish that Claude can never be used with spreadsheet information by other means; it means this particular integration is not documented as supporting Sheets.

Google Slides: Gemini has the documented presentation-generation workflow
If you want an editable presentation generated in Slides, Google documents that capability for Gemini. The cited Anthropic Drive integration does not connect Slides to Claude. Gemini’s presentation feature is described as desktop and English-only on the cited page, so confirm that those conditions match your account and workflow.
What to verify before choosing
- Plan and account eligibility: Google’s feature pages require eligible Workspace or Google AI plans, and the exact access can vary by feature. Check the current requirements for Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Workspace administrator settings, language, device, and rollout can also affect access; the official pages do not provide one durable matrix covering every account.
- Claude access: Anthropic describes Google Drive document connections for paid Claude users. Review the integration guide and Anthropic’s information on Research and Google Workspace for the account and integration conditions that apply.
- Source accuracy: When Gemini uses Drive files, Google says you can select sources and compare facts across files. Google also warns that Gemini may miss sources or cite one that does not directly support a particular response. - Privacy terms: Google states that Workspace content used by Gemini in named apps such as Docs, Drive, Sheets, and Slides is not used to train or improve Gemini or other generative AI models without permission. Google separately says prompts and generated output are not stored without permission for users with Google AI plans. These are Google’s stated commitments; check the terms and account conditions applicable to your plan at Google’s Workspace data protection page.
How to compare output quality fairly
Official feature descriptions show what each product is designed to do; they do not demonstrate that one writes more accurately, analyzes data better, or saves more time. To compare quality for your own work, use the same task and source material in each product, then judge the result against the same criteria.

- Choose a representative task, such as revising a real document, building a formula and chart from a sample sheet, or preparing a short presentation from a brief.
- Give both assistants the same input and specify the same requirements, constraints, and desired output.
- Check factual claims against the original files, formulas against the intended calculation, and any generated deck for editability and completeness.
- Record how much correction or rework the result needs. Treat that as your own workflow comparison, not a general product benchmark.
This approach keeps the decision grounded in your documents, spreadsheet conventions, and presentation needs rather than inferring quality from a feature list.
