Google has not officially confirmed a Fitbit Edge in the sources available as of October 7, 2026. Recent reports describe Edge using leaked materials, while Google’s confirmed tracker in this comparison is the Fitbit Charge 6. If you need a tracker with documented features now, the Charge 6 is the evidence-backed option; whether waiting for Edge makes sense depends on details Google has yet to publish.
Is Fitbit Edge officially released?
No official Edge product announcement or specification sheet is established in the available sources. Reports published October 4 and October 6, 2026, describe a leak and attribute the Edge name and details to leaked assets and reporting. Google’s official announcement reviewed here is for Fitbit Air, not Edge. Treat Edge’s existence as a reported leak, not a confirmed product listing, and do not assume a release date, price, supported markets, or final feature set.
The October 4 9to5Google report and October 6 follow-up characterize Edge as a screen-equipped tracker, but that description is not an official Google specification. The reports do not establish a hands-on test or finalized product details.
What is the difference between Fitbit Edge and Charge 6?
The key difference today is certainty: Charge 6 has documented features and battery guidance from Google, while Edge’s details remain leak-reported. A feature-by-feature verdict would overstate what is known about Edge.

What Charge 6 tracks
Google lists Charge 6 support for steps, distance, swimming, cardio fitness (VO2 max), sleep logging and stages, Sleep Score, stress-management scoring, meditation minutes, EDA scans, heart rate, resting heart rate, heart-rate variability, breathing rate, SpO2 tracking, and skin-temperature variation. These are documented tracking categories, not a claim that every metric is a medical measurement or diagnosis.
Google also says Charge 3 through Charge 6 and Charge HR can automatically detect high-movement activities, including walking, running, biking, sports, elliptical, aerobics, and swimming. The detected activity label can be edited in the app. See Google’s activity tracking guidance and supported health and activity data categories.

How long does the Fitbit Charge 6 battery last?
Google’s current support estimate is up to 7 days for Charge 6 under its general battery guidance. The estimate falls to up to 3 days with always-on display enabled and up to 5 hours when using continuous built-in GPS. These are estimates, not guaranteed runtimes: Google says actual battery life varies with enabled features, usage, environment, and other factors. See Google’s Charge 6 battery guidance.
Charge 6 supports both connected GPS and on-device GPS according to Google’s documented tracking categories. If you rely on continuous built-in GPS, the shorter battery estimate is the relevant one; do not use the general seven-day figure as a GPS-session expectation.

Should you wait for Fitbit Edge or buy Charge 6?
Choose Charge 6 if you need a tracker now
Charge 6 is the practical choice when you want a product with a confirmed model name, documented tracking capabilities, and published battery estimates. Its documented capabilities let you judge whether it covers your needs before buying.
Wait for Edge only if you can tolerate uncertainty
Waiting may be reasonable if the reported screen-equipped design is what interests you, but the available reporting does not establish when Edge will launch, what it will cost, where it will be sold, or which features will ship. Avoid making a purchase decision on leaked specifications as though Google had confirmed them.

Do not treat Fitbit Air as an Edge substitute
Google announced Fitbit Air on May 7, 2026, as a screenless tracker. The announcement listed US launch prices of $99 for standard colors and $129 for the Stephen Curry Special Edition; those are dated announcement prices, not a verified current offer. Air provides lineup context but does not confirm Edge’s intended position or specifications. See Google’s Fitbit Air announcement.

Google says Charge 5, Charge 6, and Luxe use the same charging cable. That does not mean all Charge cables are interchangeable: Google specifically warns that the Charge 3 cable does not work with Charge 4. Check the exact model compatibility before buying a replacement cable. Google’s charging instructions cover the model-specific guidance.
