What Google Ad Grants provides—and what it does not
Google Ad Grants is an in-kind advertising program for qualifying nonprofits. Its ads appear on Google Search and may appear below paid ads. Google describes the monthly grant as up to $10,000 USD; it is not cash, does not roll over, and there is no requirement to spend the full amount. Actual delivery depends on factors including bid competitiveness, ad quality, targeting, and search volume. Check eligibility before applying
Google’s broad qualification checklist is an eligible nonprofit, a high-quality website that meets its website policy, and the ability to follow program policies. Organization eligibility and available products vary by country, so do not assume that another nonprofit’s status or a general description applies to your organization. Use Google’s live Google for Nonprofits eligibility page to check the requirements, verification process, and product availability for your location.
Use Google’s policy pages to build compliant campaigns
Campaigns and keywords need to reflect the nonprofit’s primary mission and relate to its programs and services. Google says ads and keywords must be specific enough to provide a good user experience. Its detailed Mission-based campaigns policy is useful when choosing campaign themes and assessing whether a keyword belongs in the account.

Choose specific, mission-relevant keywords
Google prohibits single-word and overly generic keywords, subject to limited stated exceptions. The single-keyword policy and exceptions page describes exceptions that include an organization’s own brand terms and certain charity-related terms. An exception does not make every broad term acceptable: keywords remain subject to Google Ads policies, and violations can lead to automatic suspension. Check the current policy rather than relying on an older third-party keyword list.
Understand the budget and choose a bidding approach
Google’s budget guide equates the maximum $10,000 USD monthly grant with a $329 USD daily cap. That daily figure is a limit, not an amount the account is guaranteed to spend. Bid competition, ad quality, targeting, and the volume of relevant searches can all affect delivery. Match the bidding strategy to your goal and tracking
Google’s recommendations distinguish between revenue-like goals and other conversion goals. Its guide says to use Maximize conversion value when tracking donations, purchases, or membership fees, and Maximize conversions for other goals. Conversion-based Smart Bidding depends on valid conversion tracking, so make sure the actions you care about are being recorded before relying on those strategies.
If you do not yet have conversion data, Google says Maximize clicks can be used to gather traffic and data while you implement conversion tracking promptly. Google describes 15–30 conversions in the last 30 days as a typical starting point for the algorithm—not a universal threshold or a performance guarantee.

Find the right kind of support
Google’s Google for Nonprofits resources directory brings together self-service learning, step-by-step video tutorials, the Help Center, help from other nonprofits, pro bono account support, and professional account management through certified agencies. A practical escalation path is to begin with the free documentation and peer resources, then decide whether additional account support is needed.
Google lists certified agencies as an option, but that listing alone does not establish that a particular agency is right for your organization. Before engaging one, check its credentials, the work included, reporting and communication expectations, and commercial terms. Professional management is distinct from Google’s free policy documentation and education resources.
