The 8849 TANK Pad combines a rugged 5G Android tablet with a built-in DLP projector. Its projector is rated by the manufacturer at 100 lumens and 854 × 480 resolution, so it is best suited to sharing images or video in a dim room—not replacing a bright projector for daylight viewing. The current manufacturer listing says the tablet runs Android 15; HotHardware’s December 2024 launch-era coverage described the earlier version as running Android 14.
What the built-in projector can—and cannot—do
The TANK Pad’s integrated DLP projector has a manufacturer-listed output of 100 lumens, 854 × 480 resolution and manual focus. Those specifications point to a convenience feature for occasional viewing or presentations rather than a high-brightness home-theater projector. In a bright room, ambient light competes with the projected image; use it in a dim environment for a more visible picture.
8849 recommends a projection distance of 1.5–2 metres and says brightness and resolution diminish as distance increases. The manufacturer’s product listing supplies these figures and conditions. HotHardware’s December 10, 2024 coverage likewise characterized the projector as not very bright.
Plan how to position it
The projector is built into the tablet, but the tablet does not have an integrated stand or mount. HotHardware noted that omission in its December 2024 coverage, so projecting hands-free may require a stable surface or a separate support. Positioning matters: the recommended 1.5–2 m distance, manual focus and dim surroundings are part of making the feature practical.

Android version: current listing versus launch-era coverage
The manufacturer’s current product page lists Android 15. HotHardware’s article, published December 10, 2024, described the launch version as running Android 14. These statements refer to different product snapshots, so the older coverage does not establish the software version on a unit sold now. Check the specific listing and device configuration before purchase if the installed Android version is important to you.
What the ruggedness claims mean
8849 claims IP68 and IP69K protection, but its page also sets limits on the water-resistance conditions: it describes a controlled fresh-water test up to 1.8 m for 30 minutes. The manufacturer cautions against saltwater, pool water and other corrosive liquids, says port covers must be fully sealed, and warns that protection can decline through ordinary wear. It also says not to charge the tablet when wet. These are manufacturer statements, not a guarantee that the device is indestructible or suitable for every wet environment.

HotHardware’s December 2024 report also observed that the MIL-STD-810H label did not explain what this particular tablet could withstand. Treat that label as insufficient, on its own, to infer protection against a specific drop, impact or operating condition.

The TANK Pad is most compelling if one device needs to serve as a rugged tablet and an occasional projector, and projections will happen in dim settings where the tablet can be placed securely. Its listed 10.95-inch, 120 Hz screen, 5G connectivity and large battery may also suit buyers who want a capable tablet when they are not projecting.

Choose separate equipment if bright-room projection, higher projected resolution, easy hands-free positioning or a dedicated projector’s flexibility matters more than having both functions in one rugged device. The available cited coverage does not establish numerical comparisons with competing tablets or projectors, so those trade-offs should be judged against the specifications and setup requirements of the alternatives you are considering.
