There is no single AI course that fits every business. The eight options below serve different needs: employer planning, learning-path discovery, introductory business education, hands-on technical validation, individual skills assessment, UK workforce training, and AWS-focused team learning. Use them as a shortlist—not a ranked or independently tested list—and pair provider training with practice in your own workflows and rules.

How to choose an AI upskilling program

Start with the work employees need to do, then select learning at the right level. A program may be a framework for designing internal training, a course, a skills assessment, a credential, or a team subscription; these are not interchangeable.

  • Audience and level: Decide whether employees need basic awareness, role-specific use, or technical building skills.
  • Format: Check whether learning is self-paced, hands-on, instructor-led, or administered across a team.
  • Evidence of skill: Distinguish a completion or recommendation from a credential based on an assessment.
  • Responsible use: Confirm how the training addresses risks, security, and responsible AI, then add your own organization’s policies and workflow requirements.
  • Practical fit: Check cost, language, availability, and alignment with the cloud or productivity tools your organization already uses. Official pages provide partial descriptions, not a comparable price or effectiveness study.

Eight AI upskilling options for businesses

1. Google AI Skills Playbook and learning resources

Use Google’s AI Skills Playbook as an employer implementation framework, rather than assuming it is a packaged corporate course. It recommends establishing a team baseline, putting AI into familiar work, creating a trust framework, offering flexible learning, and recognizing progress. It also points to learning resources including Introduction to Gemini for Google Workspace and short AI Boost Bites.

The playbook cites a 2024 Google/Ipsos Cloud Learning Services Market Pulse: 82% of surveyed decision-makers said technical learning resources help their organizations stay ahead in AI, and 75% of surveyed practitioners preferred hands-on AI training. Fieldwork ran September–November 2024 across the US, UK, France, Germany, India, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, and Australia/New Zealand; each sample was reported as n=902. These are respondents’ opinions, not evidence that a particular course improves business results.

2. Microsoft AI Skills Navigator

Microsoft AI Skills Navigator is a discovery and routing tool for employees or teams that have not settled on a starting point. The hub says learners can share goals, skill level, interests, and learning style to receive personalized AI learning-path recommendations. It helps direct learners toward options; it is not itself evidence of a team’s capability or business impact.

3. Microsoft Learn for Organizations

Microsoft Learn for Organizations is the broadest Microsoft team-learning option described here. Microsoft lists team learning plans with milestones and tracking, videos, certifications, lab-based Applied Skills, and a route to Training Services Partners for organization-tailored training. For a tailored engagement, confirm the provider’s current status, scope, availability, and commercial terms directly.

4. Microsoft Learn: Transform your business with AI

This Microsoft Learn path is aimed at business leaders and owners who need a beginner-level grounding in planning and adopting AI. Microsoft lists a duration of 2 hr 34 min across four modules, covering planning, strategizing, responsible adoption, and scaling AI projects. The page names basic IT and business understanding as prerequisites. See Transform your business with AI.

5. Microsoft Applied Skills

For employees who need to demonstrate a specific practical capability, Microsoft Applied Skills validates skills through interactive, lab-based assessments in real-world technical scenarios, which learners can complete at their own pace. This is a more applied route than introductory awareness training; select a credential only after checking that its assessed scenario matches the work the employee will perform.

6. IBM SkillsBuild AI Level Up

IBM SkillsBuild AI Level Up starts with a free assessment that assigns a learner profile—Explorer, Practitioner, or Trailblazer—and recommends curated next steps. It can help orient individual learners. The page does not establish enterprise cohort analytics or guarantee a business outcome, so assess separately how you will manage and evaluate learning across a team.

7. IBM SkillsBuild UK workforce AI learning pathway

IBM announced a free, progressive, role-aligned AI learning pathway for the UK workforce on June 8, 2026. IBM describes it as spanning entry-level employees through senior leaders and policymakers. Its stated subject range runs from AI fundamentals, large language models, prompt engineering, and ethics to analytics, risk management, fraud detection, advanced machine learning, natural language processing, and AI solution development. Because the announcement specifies the UK workforce, organizations elsewhere should not assume the pathway is available or designed for their workforce. Check current access and eligibility at IBM’s announcement.

In that announcement, IBM relayed figures from its 2025 CEO Study: 77% of surveyed CEOs expected positive ROI from scaled AI growth investments, and 30% of the workforce would require retraining or reskilling in the next three years. Those figures are attributed to IBM’s study as reported by IBM; they are not independent verification of this pathway’s results. The announcement also quotes UK Minister for AI and Online Safety Kanishka Narayan saying the government aims to upskill 10 million UK workers with AI skills by 2030, with partners such as IBM helping make training accessible from the shop floor to the boardroom.

8. AWS Skill Builder

AWS Skill Builder is the clearest fit among these options for organizations already working in AWS. AWS describes role-based cloud and AI training, from business-leader awareness to advanced builder skills, alongside skills validation and a team subscription with collaborative learning and analytics features. Catalog offerings and subscription terms can change, so verify current content, access, and terms before planning a rollout.

AWS reports more than 31 million learners across 200 countries and territories on its workforce-skilling page. That figure describes AWS free training initiatives for cloud skills; it is not a count of AI-course completions or business customers. See AWS workforce skills training.

Turn training into a workplace plan

Training is more likely to be relevant when it is connected to actual responsibilities rather than assigned as a single company-wide course. Google’s five-part playbook provides a useful setup: establish a baseline, put AI into familiar work, build a trust framework, offer flexible learning, and recognize milestones. Translate those ideas into an implementation plan:

  1. Choose priority workflows. Identify the work where AI may help, and determine which roles perform it.
  2. Set different learning routes. Match basic awareness, practical use, and technical building to the employees who need each level.
  3. Pair instruction with practice. Give learners hands-on tasks based on approved tools and realistic work, with appropriate review and safeguards.
  4. Define measures before training. Choose indicators tied to the workflow, such as task quality or time saved, and establish a baseline so you can evaluate whether training and implementation helped.
  5. Revisit the plan. Check progress and update learning as workflows, tools, and organizational requirements change.

These steps are implementation guidance, not outcomes established for any one provider program.
