Facebook Marketplace problems have different causes: your account may be restricted, Facebook may request identity verification, a location permission may be off, or a feature may not be supported on the surface you’re using. Start by identifying what is unavailable, then use the matching check below. These steps can diagnose common issues, but they do not guarantee that Facebook will restore access.
1. Check whether Facebook removed your Marketplace access
If Facebook says your Marketplace access was removed, treat it as an account restriction—not an app malfunction. Facebook says access may be removed when Marketplace use violates its Commerce Policies or Community Standards. Its guidance also lists regional messaging limits and excessive messages as possible reasons Marketplace messaging may stop. Review Facebook’s Marketplace messaging and access guidance and follow any review or appeal option Facebook shows for your account or listing.
Reinstalling the app or changing a device setting will not resolve a policy-based restriction. If only messaging is affected, distinguish that from being unable to open Marketplace or view listings.
2. Respond to an identity-verification prompt
Facebook may request identity documents to start or continue using features such as Marketplace. If you see a verification request, follow the instructions in Facebook itself. Do not send identification to a third-party service claiming it can restore access. Facebook’s published guidance does not establish a universal eligibility checklist or a standard review turnaround time. Read Facebook’s information about identity confirmation for Marketplace.

3. Check location permission for local results
Check this only if the problem concerns your location or nearby listings. Facebook’s Location Services instructions apply to its iPhone, iPad, and Android apps; location access is controlled in your device settings. See Facebook’s instructions for Location Services.
Android
- Open your device’s Settings.
- Go to Apps > Facebook > Permissions > Location.
- Choose the location permission you want to allow, then return to Facebook and check the location-related feature again.
iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings and go to Privacy & Security > Location Services.
- Select Facebook.
- Choose the permission that suits your needs, then check the Marketplace location feature again.
Changing location permission is a targeted check; it will not address an account restriction or every Marketplace error.

4. Try another Facebook access surface
If a particular control or feature is missing, try Facebook’s main app or the full website to see whether the difference is platform-specific. Facebook documents, for example, that buyers and sellers can provide Marketplace ratings in the Facebook app for iPhone or Android, but not on facebook.com or Facebook Lite. Rating visibility also has platform-specific limits. Check Facebook’s Marketplace ratings guidance.
Compare the same feature across surfaces rather than assuming Marketplace works identically everywhere. A feature appearing in another surface points to a platform limitation; it does not prove that an account-level restriction has been lifted.

5. Clear browsing data only for an in-app browser problem
If a page fails to load inside Facebook’s embedded browser, try clearing that browser’s browsing data. Facebook says this affects the in-app browser only—not the Facebook app as a whole. Follow Facebook’s in-app browser instructions. This is not evidence that clearing the app’s full cache fixes Marketplace.

Use Facebook’s Help Center and any review or report option shown in the app for the specific restriction or error. Facebook’s access-recovery guidance appears in its Help Center, but the available page information does not establish a guaranteed appeal route or response time. Avoid services that promise to bypass a restriction or verify you outside Facebook.

If you are trying to sell while Marketplace is unavailable, Facebook lists buy-and-sell groups and a Page as separate selling options. They are alternatives, not a way to restore Marketplace access, and features such as shipping may depend on location. See Facebook’s overview of selling through Marketplace, groups, and Pages.
