If high difficulty is what keeps you away from Soulslikes, start with the game whose options target your particular sticking point—not with a claim that one is objectively easiest. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor combines Story Mode with a setting that slows action; Another Crab’s Treasure offers optional assists aimed at newcomers; and Steelrising lets you tune several costs of failure. Jedi: Fallen Order has combat settings and help with timed inputs, while an update added a difficulty selector to Lies of P. These choices are based on documented features, not a measured easiest-to-hardest ranking.

Another Crab’s Treasure A newcomer-oriented soulslike with optional assists Publisher describes assist options and an underwater shell-based adventure Nov 2026
Steelrising Reducing damage and the penalty for dying Adjustable damage, endurance regeneration, death loss, and perfect-cooldown timing Nov 2026
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Combat difficulty changes and help with timed inputs Four combat difficulty levels plus options for button mashes and timed quick-time inputs Nov 2026
Lies of P A darker, traditional soulslike with a conventional selector Three difficulty levels added in the June 6, 2025 update Nov 2026

Which Soulslike is a good fit if high difficulty is the problem?

Choose by the kind of friction you want to reduce. If you want a forgiving preset and slower timing, look first at Jedi: Survivor. If you would rather keep the standard feel but reduce the punishment for mistakes, consider Steelrising. For timed button sequences, Jedi: Fallen Order documents a specific accommodation; for an optional assist system in a newcomer-oriented game, consider Another Crab’s Treasure. If a conventional difficulty selector in a more traditional soulslike is the priority, the updated version of Lies of P now has one.

This is a guide to adjustable features, not a verdict about which game is easiest. Difficulty depends on which challenge is hardest for you: surviving hits, reacting quickly, navigating, repeating a section after death, or completing a timed input. A setting that addresses one of those can help without changing the others. The recommendations are not based on hands-on tests or a common benchmark, so they should be read as a practical feature comparison rather than a ranking of how hard the games feel.

A useful first step is to name the frustrating part of a difficult encounter. If you are often hit while trying to parry, forgiving windows or slower action may help. If you can survive but dread losing a resource after a failed attempt, a death-penalty setting is more relevant. If the obstacle is a button-mash sequence, lowering incoming damage will not solve it. Matching the tool to the problem is more useful than looking for a single “easy” label.

What should you look for besides an easy mode?

“Easy mode” can mean different things. A preset may reduce damage or make defensive timing more forgiving; an assist may slow the action, remove a button-mash sequence, or help with navigation. A separate setting may leave combat intact but reduce what is lost on death. Before choosing, identify the obstacle you want the game to soften.

  • Surviving combat: Look for settings that reduce damage received or enemy aggression, or make parries more forgiving.
  • Reaction time: Slower action or broader timing windows can matter more than a lower damage number.
  • Timed inputs: Options to remove button mashes or timed quick-time events address a different problem from combat difficulty.
  • Getting lost: Navigation aids and audio cues may be more relevant than a combat preset.
  • Death penalties: Keeping a resource after death can reduce the cost of learning, even if enemies remain just as aggressive.

These options are not interchangeable. For example, Steelrising lets players alter several damage and penalty settings, but its developer says enemy attack timing and aggression do not change. In Jedi: Survivor, Story Mode and Slow Mode serve different purposes: one adjusts combat demands, while the other eases timing in combat and platforming.

It is also worth separating a difficulty preset from a discrete accommodation. A preset can shift multiple combat variables at once; an individual option may target one specific interaction. A player who wants to retain a particular combat feel but avoid a timed sequence may prefer an input accommodation. Someone who wants an overall less demanding encounter may find a preset more straightforward. The available descriptions do not establish every game’s full settings menu or the exact effect of every assist, so check the current in-game options if a particular feature is essential.

Why is Jedi: Survivor the strongest pick for slower reactions?

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the best documented choice here if you want a forgiving combat preset and additional help with timing or navigation. EA describes Story Mode as offering generous parry windows and minimal incoming enemy damage. The game also has Slow Mode, which eases timing in combat and platforming, plus other assistance options.

What its settings address

  • Story Mode: A preset with more forgiving parry timing and less damage taken from enemies, according to EA.
  • Slow Mode: Slows timing demands in combat and platforming; it is not simply another name for Story Mode.
  • Other assistance: EA lists navigation assistance, audio pings, auto-targeting, and button-mash options.

EA documented five combat difficulty options in 2023. Difficulty can be changed during play when you are outside combat, and EA says changing it does not change in-game rewards. That makes it possible to adjust if your current setting is not working, without treating the initial selection as permanent. EA’s accessibility overview also quotes Senior Director of Development Jonas Lundqvist describing Slow Mode’s design versatility; that is an explanation of intent, not a measurement of how much easier it makes the game.

In an April 25, 2023 feature article, Lundqvist said: “The Slow Mode has been a particularly exciting feature to work on because of its versatility.” The comment helps explain why the feature is useful to consider alongside Story Mode: players can look at it as a distinct timing tool, not merely a lower combat setting. It does not quantify a change in difficulty or guarantee that every sequence will feel manageable.

Choose Survivor if several kinds of friction matter at once—for example, reaction speed as well as route-finding. Its setting for difficulty changes has a condition: you need to be outside combat when you make the change. EA’s accessibility overview for Jedi: Survivor describes the documented features.

Is Another Crab’s Treasure a good first Soulslike?

Another Crab’s Treasure is a promising first look if you want a soulslike designed with newcomers in mind and the option to use assists. Its publisher, Aggro Crab, describes it as approachable for newer players while still challenging experienced ones, and says it includes assist options for a less frustrating experience. That description does not establish that the default game is easy, or specify exactly what each assist changes.

The premise is an underwater adventure in which Kril uses discarded objects as protective shells. Aggro Crab’s Steam listing describes more than 50 shells. That gives the game a distinctive setting and a shell-based protective mechanic, but it should not be mistaken for a promise that any particular shell or assist will make the game easy. The publisher’s Steam listing is the source for its description and assist options.

Pick this one if an inviting presentation and optional help are more appealing than a familiar difficulty selector. If you need a specific accommodation—such as slower combat, a precise damage reduction, or keeping a resource after death—the available publisher description does not establish that this game provides that particular feature. Check the current in-game options and platform listing before buying if one exact setting is essential.

The listing’s “more than 50 shells” detail is a concrete description of the game’s central protective mechanic, not a difficulty specification. It can help set expectations about the adventure’s unusual shell-based premise, but it does not tell you which shell offers what protection or how the assists operate. Treat the newcomer-oriented positioning as a reason to investigate the game, not as a substitute for checking whether its actual options match your needs.

Can Steelrising reduce the cost of dying?

Yes. Steelrising is the clearest fit here if you want to adjust the consequences of mistakes rather than slow enemy behavior. Its Assist Mode settings can change damage taken, endurance regeneration, whether Anima Essence is retained after death, and how easy it is to perform perfect cooldowns. The developer says enemy attack timing and aggression do not change.

What the adjustments mean

  • Damage taken: Reducing it can make mistakes in combat less immediately punishing.
  • Endurance regeneration: Changing recovery can affect how quickly you can act again.
  • Anima Essence after death: The option can prevent losing this resource when you die.
  • Perfect cooldowns: The setting can make that timing-based action easier.

Those controls let you address several costs separately, but they do not amount to a slower enemy. If quick enemy attacks are the main barrier, these settings may not address it. Assist Mode can be toggled in the options, but using it at least once can disable some difficulty-related achievements for that playthrough. Completionists should weigh that trade-off before turning it on, rather than assuming they can use it briefly and retain every achievement opportunity.

This makes Steelrising a particularly clear choice for a player who is comfortable learning enemy patterns but wants a lower penalty while doing so. Conversely, someone whose main difficulty is reacting to enemy speed should not assume that the assist settings solve that problem: the developer specifically says attack timing and aggression remain unchanged. The achievement caveat also applies to the playthrough if Assist Mode is used at least once, so achievement-focused players should decide before experimenting with it.

The developer’s Steelrising Assist Mode feature overview explains the available adjustments and achievement caveat.

Does Jedi: Fallen Order help with timed inputs?

Yes. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a good alternative if button mashes or timed quick-time inputs are the specific problem. EA documents four difficulty levels that affect parry timing, incoming damage, and enemy aggression; it also lists separate options to remove button mashes or timed quick-time inputs.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

That distinction matters: a combat level changes the demands of encounters, while a timed-input accommodation addresses particular sequences. The game also offers auto-lock and auto-climb options. These can help with aiming or traversal, but they are separate from the four combat difficulty levels.

EA says difficulty can be changed at any time. Do not assume that Fallen Order has Survivor’s Slow Mode or the same reward policy: EA’s published feature descriptions establish different options for each game. See EA’s Fallen Order accessibility overview for the documented settings.

The distinction between the two Jedi games is useful when deciding between them. Fallen Order has a documented setting to remove button mashes or timed quick-time inputs and a separate four-level combat selector. Survivor is the one documented here with Slow Mode for combat and platforming timing, plus Story Mode. Their options overlap in purpose, but they should not be treated as identical menus or policies.

Does Lies of P have an easy mode now?

Lies of P has a difficulty selector in updated copies. NEOWIZ introduced three difficulty levels in the June 6, 2025 Overture launch patch, and says they can be changed at any time under Settings → Gameplay → Difficulty. That makes older launch-era descriptions of the game as having no selector out of date for a copy with the update.

The update and the paid Overture DLC are distinct: NEOWIZ’s patch notes say the DLC must be purchased separately, but the difficulty feature is in the base-game patch. Buying the DLC is not necessary to receive the patch’s difficulty selector. Check that your copy is updated, then use the settings path above. The patch notes identify three levels but do not, in the cited description, establish detailed mechanical effects for each; choose a level in the game rather than assuming what it changes. See NEOWIZ’s Overture launch patch notes.

Choose Lies of P if you want a more conventional selector in a darker, traditional soulslike, not because the existence of three levels proves it is easier than the other recommendations. The important qualification is that this feature arrived after launch. For a purchase, confirm the platform and edition and that the game can receive the update; the patch notes do not substitute for checking a particular store listing.

If you are shopping specifically for PlayStation 5, the relevant named product is Lies of P PS5 physical game. Confirm the platform and edition on the listing and whether the copy can receive the June 2025 patch; prices and stock can change, so check the current listing rather than relying on an old price. The Art of Lies of P is an optional companion book for fans, not a game or a way to reduce difficulty.

Can I change difficulty mid-game?

In several of these recommendations, yes, but the rules differ. EA says Jedi: Survivor difficulty can be changed during play outside combat, while EA says Jedi: Fallen Order difficulty can be changed at any time. NEOWIZ says the three Lies of P levels can be changed at any time through Settings → Gameplay → Difficulty. These are useful distinctions if you are unsure whether to commit to a setting before starting.

  • Transfer Files in Seconds: Transfer files and from your laptop at speeds up to 10 Gbps with USB A 3.2 port. Extra 2 USB A 2.0 ports are perfectly for your keyboards and mouse.

For Steelrising, the developer says Assist Mode can be toggled in the options, but using it at least once can disable some difficulty-related achievements for that playthrough. This is not the same as a blanket promise that every setting in every game can be freely changed with no consequences. For Another Crab’s Treasure, the publisher’s listing confirms optional assists but does not specify every effect or change rule. If flexibility matters, check the in-game menu and the current platform-specific information.

A practical approach is to begin with the setting that addresses your known obstacle, then reassess after trying it. You do not need to treat a difficulty selection as a test of skill. However, check for the specific restrictions above before changing settings: Survivor’s outside-combat condition and Steelrising’s achievement impact are especially important details.

  • You want a forgiving preset and slower timing: Start with Jedi: Survivor, especially if navigation assistance or button-mash options would also help.
  • You want an approachable premise and optional assists: Consider Another Crab’s Treasure, while checking the actual options if you need one specific accommodation.
  • You want less damage or a smaller death penalty: Consider Steelrising; account for its achievement warning and remember enemy timing remains unchanged.
  • You want help with timed sequences: Consider Jedi: Fallen Order for its documented button-mash and timed-input options.
  • You want a selector in a traditional soulslike: Consider updated Lies of P; its three levels were added by a 2025 patch.

Before buying, confirm that the listing matches your platform and edition, and check that any needed update is available. Settings and product listings can change; the cited descriptions establish features, not current stock or price.

In short, Survivor is the broadest documented match when reaction, platforming timing, and navigation all matter; Steelrising is more specific to damage and death costs; and Fallen Order is notable for removing timed-input demands. Another Crab’s Treasure is positioned for newcomers but does not give precise assist specifications in its publisher description. Updated Lies of P offers a conventional selector, though its patch notes do not spell out the effects of its three levels. That comparison is about the information available for each option, not a claim that any one game is universally easier.

How were these games selected?

The choices are organized by documented ways to make a playthrough less demanding: a forgiving combat preset, slower action, newcomer-oriented assists, controls over damage or death penalties, accommodations for timed inputs, and a conventional difficulty selector. The order follows those distinct use cases, not a claim that one game is objectively easiest. Feature descriptions come from the publishers or developers, and the recommendations do not represent hands-on testing or a measured comparison.

Specific feature claims are grounded in EA’s accessibility descriptions for the two Jedi games, the Steelrising Assist Mode overview published by Xbox Wire, Aggro Crab’s Steam listing, and NEOWIZ’s June 6, 2025 Lies of P: Overture patch notes. Store details should be verified at the time of purchase: platform, edition, stock, and price are not fixed by those feature descriptions. Recheck settings after substantial updates, particularly when a precise control or a post-launch patch is central to your decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do these settings guarantee that a Soulslike will feel easy?

No. They change particular demands, but how challenging a game feels depends on the player and the obstacle. A damage adjustment will not necessarily help with navigation or reaction timing, for example.

Can I keep a Soulslike challenging while using an assist?

Often, an assist addresses one part of play rather than removing every challenge. Before enabling one, look for whether it changes combat, timing, navigation, or death penalties so you can decide what to leave untouched.

Should I check anything before buying one of these games?

Confirm that the store listing matches your platform and edition, and whether the relevant feature requires an update. The feature descriptions here do not establish current pricing, stock, or availability for every platform.

Can I change difficulty after I start?

EA says Jedi: Fallen Order difficulty can be changed at any time. Jedi: Survivor can be changed during play when you are outside combat, and updated Lies of P lets you switch among three levels under Settings → Gameplay → Difficulty. Steelrising has an achievement caveat if Assist Mode is used at least once in a playthrough.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will Steelrising Assist Mode disable achievements?

Using Assist Mode at least once can disable some difficulty-related achievements for that playthrough. The developer does not say that enemy aggression or attack timing changes when the mode is used.

Does Lies of P have an easy mode now, and do I need the DLC?

Updated copies have three difficulty levels introduced in NEOWIZ’s June 6, 2025 patch. The Overture DLC is purchased separately; the difficulty feature is part of the base-game patch, so the DLC is not required to receive it.

Which game helps with button mashes or timed quick-time inputs?

EA documents options to remove button mashes or timed quick-time inputs in Jedi: Fallen Order. Its four combat difficulty levels are separate settings, and its options should not be confused with Jedi: Survivor’s Slow Mode.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Pick the game whose documented option matches your obstacle. Jedi: Survivor offers Story Mode and Slow Mode; Steelrising lets you adjust damage and death costs but leaves enemy timing intact; and Fallen Order has specific timed-input accommodations. For newcomer-oriented assists, investigate Another Crab’s Treasure; for a conventional selector, make sure Lies of P is updated. None is a guaranteed easiest choice, and Steelrising’s achievement caveat is worth checking before enabling Assist Mode.
