From there, a connected scale, digital shower controls, a smart mirror or a toilet sensor can suit specific needs—but each brings different compatibility, privacy and setup trade-offs.
How to choose smart bathroom accessories
Start with the job you want the accessory to do, then check whether it fits your bathroom and household. A connected feature is only useful if you will use it and can install, clean and maintain it comfortably.
- Compatibility: Check the shape of your existing toilet, available electrical supply, plumbing and phone or app support.
- Useful functions: Compare the exact model’s features rather than assuming every product in a category does the same things.
- Installation: A standalone scale has different setup demands from digital shower controls integrated into a bathroom project.
- Privacy and data: Find out what sensors collect, where information goes, what account or app is required, and what controls are available.
- Ongoing costs: Check for memberships or other service fees in addition to the purchase price.
- Everyday care: Consider cleaning, maintenance and accessibility alongside connectivity.
1. Smart bidet toilet seat: the most direct upgrade
A smart bidet toilet seat can add washing and comfort functions to an existing toilet, making it the clearest accessory-level upgrade in this group. KOHLER describes its PureWash bidet-seat range as an upgrade and names the E930, E750, E820, E700, E590, E545 and E525 models. Digital shower controls are a better fit for someone planning a broader bathroom project than for someone seeking a simple plug-in accessory. KOHLER describes digital showering as providing precise control and customization. The available information does not establish installation costs or universal compatibility, so confirm the requirements for the specific control system and your plumbing before designing around it. 3. Smart scale: connected records, not a diagnosis
Huawei’s Nigeria regional product page describes a Bluetooth 4.1 scale that records body-composition information in an app and recognizes up to 10 users. That profile limit is a manufacturer specification, not a clinical study result. Huawei also says the scale is not recommended for people with pacemakers or other electronic medical implants. Treat readings as app-based measurements, not a diagnosis or independently validated health assessment, and check availability of the relevant model in your region. 5. Toilet-rim sensor: an emerging option with privacy trade-offs
Throne Science says its Throne One clips onto a toilet rim without tools or plumbing and provides app trends using computer vision and acoustic analysis. The vendor says a membership unlocks insights and describes its privacy practices, so review both the data terms and membership conditions before deciding whether the added analysis is worthwhile. For a manageable upgrade, start with the function you most want—often a compatible bidet seat—and add connected products only when their app, data use and setup suit your household. If you are renovating or replacing bathroom controls, digital showering and a connected mirror may be part of a more integrated plan. In either case, compare real functions and installation requirements rather than buying connectivity for its own sake.
