Yes—48 hours in Singapore without carrying a smartphone is workable if you prepare first. Complete required digital entry steps before the phone-free period, carry a physical contactless card or transit pass, and take printed route notes, your accommodation address, and emergency numbers. This is a visitor choosing to travel without a phone, not a claim that Singapore is inaccessible without one.

Before you leave your smartphone behind

Handle the tasks that depend on digital access while you still have it—or another suitable device. A paper copy can help you use information later, but it does not replace a required electronic submission.

  • Check entry requirements. The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority says covered travellers must submit the SG Arrival Card electronically within three days before arrival, subject to stated exceptions. Confirm the current rules for your circumstances at ICA’s entering Singapore page, and submit anything required before starting the phone-free stretch.
  • Make a paper destination card. Write down your lodging’s name and full address, its nearest station, and the address in a format you can show a taxi driver. Keep a second copy separate from your wallet.
  • Prepare offline directions. Print a current rail map or write down station names, line changes, and walking directions for the places you plan to visit. LTA provides a public-transport visitor guide. Visit Singapore’s visitor guide PDF includes a city-centre map, but it is an older guide: use it for orientation, not as confirmation of current routes or service conditions. A printed travel guide or map can also help; check its publication date and map coverage.
  • Choose how to pay for transit. Decide whether to use a physical contactless bank card, a transit card, the Singapore Tourist Pass, or a combination. Check current pass terms and purchase options before departure.
  • Put emergency contacts on paper. gov.sg lists 999 for police emergencies and 995 for SCDF ambulance and fire service. Its contact page was last updated in 2026.
  • Carry a backup payment method. Visit Singapore states that the official currency is the Singapore dollar and says credit cards are widely accepted at many common visitor businesses. Individual acceptance varies, so bring a physical card and some cash rather than relying on a mobile wallet.

How to get around without a phone

LTA lists physical contactless bank cards and several transit-card options, as well as the Singapore Tourist Pass, for public-transport payment. That means a smartphone is not necessary for every fare. Use the same physical card to tap in and tap out so the correct fare can be charged.

Pay as you go with a physical card

A physical contactless bank card is a straightforward option if it is accepted for the services you plan to use. Keep it accessible for fare gates and bus readers, and use that same card at both ends of a trip. Check LTA’s current payment guidance for supported options and terms.

Use cash on buses

Cash can be used for bus fares, but have the exact fare ready: drivers do not give change. Cash does not solve rail-gate payment, so pair it with a suitable card or pass if you plan to use the MRT or LRT.

Decide whether a Tourist Pass fits

LTA describes one-, two-, and three-day Singapore Tourist Passes offering unlimited travel on basic bus services and MRT/LRT trains during pass validity. A two-day pass may suit a ride-heavy itinerary, but it is not automatically the cheapest choice. Compare its current price and validity rules with your expected rides, planned services, and purchase convenience; LTA’s listed payment methods also make pay-as-you-go an option.

Navigate with paper, not app directions

Visit Singapore identifies OneMap and MyTransport as app-based journey-planning options; they do not fit a no-phone trip. Instead, note each station and transfer before setting out, and keep the next destination’s full address with you. Printed maps cannot reflect disruptions or temporary service changes, so confirm current transport information before the trip and avoid depending on an old map for live conditions.

A flexible 48-hour outline

This is a planning template, not a tested itinerary or a guarantee that a venue will be open. Keep each day to one or two nearby areas, then check current attraction calendars and transport information before fixing times. Visit Singapore organizes visitor ideas by neighborhoods, museums, heritage, and dining on its travel essentials page.

Day one: one central area

  1. Start in a central district and follow the station names and transfers written on your itinerary.
  2. Choose a museum or civic and heritage area, then plan a nearby meal stop rather than crossing the city for each activity.
  3. Finish with an evening walk in a neighboring area. Carry enough physical payment options for transport and meals; individual businesses may differ in what they accept.

Day two: one more district or outdoor area

  1. Choose a second district, park, or attraction area around your interests and its current opening schedule.
  2. Check your written route against current official transport information before leaving; do not assume an older printed map reflects disruptions or temporary changes.
  3. Leave enough time to return to your accommodation on the route you have already written down. Keep its full address handy in case you need a taxi.

What no-phone preparation cannot replace

Some parts of travel remain digital even when you choose not to carry a phone. The SG Arrival Card, where required, must be submitted electronically; printing a confirmation is useful as a backup, but it is not the submission itself. More broadly, paper directions and emergency contacts help with routine decisions, but they do not provide live navigation, service alerts, or app-based journey planning. Plan a compact route and verify changing details before you go.
