The 3dfx Voodoo3 3000 PCI is a 16 MB graphics card for a conventional PCI slot, not an AGP card. “Voodoo33000” in the supplied title appears to combine the brand and model number; the historical review identifies the product as the Voodoo3-3000 PCI. Its specifications and performance reports are period information, not evidence that it will work with a modern PC or operating system.

What the Voodoo3 3000 PCI is

HotHardware’s review, published December 15, 2001, identifies the card as the 3dfx Voodoo3-3000 PCI and describes it as a 16 MB PCI graphics card. The PCI interface is the key distinction when identifying one: it is not the Voodoo3 3000 AGP model. A motherboard must have a compatible PCI slot, and having a slot alone does not establish that a particular modern system can use the card.

The historical review says the PCI and AGP versions had few differences beyond their bus interface and cost positioning. It specifically notes that the PCI version lacks TV output. Since board revisions and third-party variants can differ, inspect the exact card rather than assuming every board has identical connectors. HotHardware’s Voodoo3 3000 PCI review

What the period performance results do—and do not—show

HotHardware tested a sample in a late-1990s PC environment: a Soyo SY-6BA+III motherboard, Intel Celeron 300A, 96 MB of PC100 memory, a 5 GB Maxtor UDMA33 drive, Windows 98 SE, and DirectX 7. The reviewer reported instability and visual artifacts at a 190 MHz overclock, then tried 180 MHz on that sample. Those observations describe one card and test setup; they are not a modern benchmark or a safe overclocking recommendation. The review does not establish compatibility with current motherboards, operating systems, or drivers.

What to check before buying a used card

  1. Confirm the interface. Check that the listing and card identify a PCI Voodoo3 3000, not an AGP version. Confirm that your motherboard has an appropriate PCI slot and investigate system compatibility separately.
  2. Inspect the exact board and outputs. Ask for clear photographs of the card, connectors, and any identifying labels. Do not rely on the review’s output description as a substitute for checking a particular revision or variant.
  3. Establish whether it works. Ask what system and operating environment were used to test it, what display output was checked, and whether there are signs of corrosion, damage, or repair. A seller’s claim is not the same as an independently verified test.
  4. Review the transaction terms. Check what accessories are included, shipping and handling costs, and whether returns are allowed if the card is not as described.
  5. Match it to your intended software. Decide which legacy operating system, drivers, and games or graphics APIs you need. The period review names DirectX, Glide, and OpenGL, but does not settle current driver availability or modern OS support.

What is not established today

The historical review is useful for identifying the card and understanding its period specifications. It does not establish present-day stock, market price, seller reliability, current driver availability, modern operating-system compatibility, or whether a particular listing is working. Treat those as questions to verify for the specific card and seller rather than conclusions implied by old specifications.
