Aramid-reinforced ABS and carbon-fiber-reinforced ABS are separate material formulations—not one established “aramid and carbon fiber” blend. Their performance and print settings depend on the specific filament, so choose and tune by product documentation rather than assuming all fiber-filled ABS behaves alike.

Aramid-filled ABS and carbon-fiber ABS are different materials

The products documented here pair ABS with one reinforcement type. Spectrum describes its ABS Kevlar as ABS containing aramid fibers, while CarbonX ABS+CF and AON3D Carbon Fiber ABS are carbon-fiber-reinforced ABS. The available product information does not establish a single filament containing both aramid and carbon fiber.

Aramid and carbon fiber are not interchangeable labels. Product claims must stay attached to the formulation that supports them: Spectrum describes its ABS Kevlar in terms of rigidity, impact strength, mechanical strength, and layer lamination; AON3D says its carbon-fiber ABS offers less warpage and improved dimensional stability compared with its standard ABS. These are manufacturer claims about named products, not guarantees for every reinforced ABS filament.

See the Spectrum ABS Kevlar product page, 3DXTech CarbonX ABS+CF, and AON3D’s 2025 Carbon Fiber ABS material data sheet for the formulations and claims attached to each product.

How to read the published property figures

Published figures can help narrow a choice, but they are not a common head-to-head ranking. The products, test methods, specimen preparation, and publication dates differ. AON3D says its data are indicative and may be affected by production conditions. Spectrum cautions that its values can vary with printing conditions, model complexity, and environment, and are not design specifications or quality-control limits.

Product and source Published value What the figure applies to
AON3D Carbon Fiber ABS, 2025 3,396 MPa tensile modulus Printed specimens tested using ISO 527-2/5A/50.
AON3D Carbon Fiber ABS, 2025 36.7 MPa tensile strength Printed specimens tested using ISO 527-2/5A/50.
AON3D Carbon Fiber ABS, 2025 18 kJ/m² Charpy impact resistance Reported using ISO 179-1/1eA.
AON3D Carbon Fiber ABS, 2025 108°C glass-transition temperature Filament property listed with the data sheet’s stated test method; distinct from the printed-specimen mechanical results.
UltiMaker Method-series ABS Carbon Fiber, product page accessed 2026 42 J/m impact strength; 59 MPa tensile strength; 102°C heat deflection Values listed for this product, not generic carbon-fiber ABS. The page also lists 500 g spool weight and 1.75 mm filament diameter.
Spectrum ABS Kevlar, 2022 technical data sheet 2,350 MPa tensile modulus Product-specific value. Spectrum presents its sheet values for reference and comparison.

For part selection, compare the property your design needs—such as stiffness, impact behavior, heat response, or dimensional stability—along with the method and specimen orientation when given. A value measured on one product does not establish how another brand’s filament or a differently printed part will perform. The UltiMaker Method-series ABS Carbon Fiber page and the manufacturer sheets provide product-specific context.

Starting settings differ by filament

These manufacturers’ recommendations are starting points for their named products, not a universal profile for aramid- or carbon-fiber-filled ABS. Confirm the latest technical data sheet and your printer’s documentation before printing; settings depend on the filament, printer, nozzle, build surface, enclosure, geometry, and desired part properties.

Filament Manufacturer starting guidance Important qualification
Spectrum ABS Kevlar Nozzle 250–270°C; bed 100°C; cooling 0–25%; speed 30–70 mm/s; hardened or ruby nozzle recommended. Spectrum’s guidance is based on a 0.4 mm nozzle and can vary with geometry. See its ABS Kevlar technical data sheet.
3DXTech CarbonX ABS+CF Extruder 220–240°C; bed 100–110°C; heated chamber recommended; hardened-steel nozzle, minimum 0.4 mm; layer height 0.25 mm or higher. Confirm that your printer supports the setup and check 3DXTech’s current product guidance.
AON3D Carbon Fiber ABS Nozzle 245–260°C; bed 90–95°C; speed 50–60 mm/s. These are the parameters in AON3D’s 2025 data sheet, not a general ABS-CF profile.

When a hardened nozzle matters

Carbon-fiber-filled filament can abrade a nozzle. For its CarbonX ABS+CF, 3DXTech recommends a hardened-steel nozzle and specifies a minimum 0.4 mm diameter; it also warns that the abrasive filament wears nozzles over time. That guidance is product-specific, but it is a useful reason to check nozzle material and wear requirements before printing any fiber-filled filament.

Choose by the job, not a single “stronger” ranking

There is no sound universal ranking in these sources that makes aramid-filled ABS or carbon-fiber ABS the stronger choice in every application. Instead, match a specific product to the part’s requirements and the printer’s capabilities.

  1. Identify the exact formulation. Check whether the filament is aramid-filled or carbon-fiber-filled ABS; do not infer that a product contains both fibers.
  2. Pick the relevant performance measure. Decide whether stiffness, impact behavior, heat response, or dimensional stability is most important to the part.
  3. Check how the figure was produced. Compare test methods and specimen conditions where stated, and treat vendor data as indicative rather than guaranteed performance for your print.
  4. Confirm print compatibility. Use the selected filament’s temperature, nozzle, bed, chamber, and layer-height guidance—not settings copied from another reinforced ABS.
  5. Validate the printed part for its use. Printed behavior depends on orientation, settings, and geometry as well as the filament, so do not use a product data-sheet figure as a substitute for validating a safety-critical design.
