In a reported Makeyo MK01 remix, the maker added a front USB-C port for convenient access—particularly for a VR headset—and mounts for SATA SSDs. Those are features of that design, not standard features of printed cases.
What the access-focused design changes
Tom’s Hardware reports that maker Marst_art reworked the Makeyo MK01 with a front USB-C connection, internal mounts for SATA SSDs, and a simpler power-button shroud. The front port can save users from reaching behind the computer to connect a device; the storage mounts provide a defined place for drives inside the case. Marst_art described the base design as close to what they wanted, saying, “the Makeyo MK01 is exactly what I’m looking for in a case… Well, almost exactly.” That is the maker’s view of the design, not an independent assessment.
A Hackaday search excerpt for the exact story also mentions a front USB-C port and internal mounts for 2.5-inch SSDs. The Hackaday article itself was not accessible, so details beyond that excerpt should not be attributed to it. Hackaday and Tom’s Hardware provide the relevant coverage.
What to check before choosing or printing a case
Component fit
Compatibility is specific to each design and configuration. In the reported MK01 build, a full-ATX motherboard setup required an SFX power supply and a printed adapter. The maker’s report also notes that the plans and guide did not fully match at the time, and that Makeyo was refining the plans. Check the latest files rather than relying on an older build description.

- Confirm the motherboard form factor and mounting points.
- Check GPU length and clearance around its power connector.
- Verify PSU type, dimensions, and any required adapter.
- Check CPU cooler height and fan or radiator clearance.
- Confirm that storage mounts and front I/O match the parts you intend to install.
Access and serviceability
Look at how panels attach and which components can be reached without dismantling the whole build. In the MK01 remix, the panels were made from magnetic PLA, while the frame was printed in ABS. That is one maker’s material and assembly choice; it is not a general recommendation about heat tolerance or safety.
Printer capacity and project maturity
Large case parts may not fit on a typical printer bed, and a design that is still being revised can require adjustment during assembly. Space Case labels itself beta and warns builders to expect tinkering. ParametricCase’s maintainer likewise says some parts can approach or exceed common consumer printer size limits. Check the largest part against your printer’s usable build volume before committing to a design.

How the open alternatives differ
These projects show why the headline does not identify a universally best 3D-printed case. Their published fit limits, flexibility, and maturity differ; the figures below are project specifications, not independent compatibility tests.

Those published specifications do not establish comparative temperatures, noise, strength, or long-term reliability; the cited project materials do not provide comparable testing for those qualities.

Printing and assembly details are project-specific
ParametricCase’s assembly instructions call for 5 mm diameter M3 brass threaded inserts, M3 screws, fan screws, and #6-32 PSU screws. They describe heat-setting the inserts with a soldering iron. These requirements apply to that project and should not be assumed to fit the MK01 or another case.
The MK01 remix report says the maker printed its frame in ABS and its magnetic panels in PLA. A Hackaday search excerpt cautions that ABS or another filament suited to higher heat may be desirable depending on a system’s heat output. Neither the excerpt nor the related build report supplies measured temperatures or validated material limits. Choose materials against the design’s instructions and your build’s conditions rather than treating one material choice as a universal safety guarantee.
