There is no durable, source-verified list of 35 titles that are all currently free. Instead, use the Store to confirm which themes are available now, and treat the names below as examples to search—not as a verified ranking or a promise that each is free.
How to download themes for Windows 11
- Open Settings > Personalization > Themes.
- Choose Browse themes to open the Microsoft Store.
- Check the listing’s price, availability, and whether it is a theme or an app. If it suits you, select the install or Get option shown by the Store.
- Return to Settings > Personalization > Themes and select the theme to apply it.
A Windows theme can combine desktop backgrounds, window colors, sounds, and other elements. After applying one, you can adjust the background, color, sounds, and mouse cursor separately in Personalization settings.
Windows 11 theme examples to search for
These titles have appeared in Microsoft Store theme announcements or current Store personalization results cited by Microsoft. Their inclusion here does not verify that each listing is free or available in every region today. Search the exact title in your Store and check its current listing before installing.

Microsoft reported that the Store’s new Themes department had over 400 themes at its December 2025 rollout, including over 35 new themes. Choose a theme that fits your desktop
Compare candidate listings by visual style, current price, availability in your Store region, and whether the item is a Windows theme or a separate app. A Store category may include wallpaper utilities and other personalization software, so do not assume every result installs as a theme.

If you need stronger visual contrast for readability, use Windows accessibility options such as contrast themes or color filters rather than relying on decorative wallpaper. Color mode and accent color can also be adjusted separately, and not every app supports dark mode.
Customize, save, and share a theme
- Apply a theme from Settings > Personalization > Themes.
- Use the Background, Color, Sounds, and Mouse cursor settings to make further changes.
- Return to Themes settings and save your customized theme.
- To share a saved theme, right-click it and choose Save theme for sharing. Windows creates a
.deskthemepackfile.
You can delete saved themes from the Themes area, but Windows’ default themes cannot be deleted.
