If CCleaner will not open, install, update, or run a particular feature on Windows 11, first note exactly what fails and any error message. The steps below cover three reasonable recovery attempts, but the right diagnosis depends on the symptom; none is guaranteed to fix every problem. CCleaner’s official download page lists Windows 11 as supported, so a failure alone does not establish that the app is incompatible.
Before you start: identify what is not working
Separate an installer or update failure from an app that will not launch, or a single malfunctioning feature. Record the exact error text, when it appears, and which CCleaner feature is affected. That information can help distinguish a problem with installation from one limited to a part of the app.
CCleaner’s official download page lists Windows 11 support, including 32-bit and 64-bit Windows versions. This does not establish the cause of a particular failure or mean that every release and feature will work without issue.
1. Restart Windows and check for a current CCleaner release
- Save your work and restart the PC.
- Try the action that failed again, such as opening CCleaner or running the affected feature.
- Compare your installed version with the current entry on CCleaner’s release history. At the time of the listed release, the page showed version 7.12.1526, dated 29 September 2026; check the page for the latest listing when you follow these steps.
- If you need an installer, get it from CCleaner’s official download page and follow its prompts.
Microsoft includes restarting as a general first step for desktop-app installation or removal problems. Checking the release history can tell you whether your installed copy is current; it does not show that an update will fix every launch or feature failure. Release notes describe changes for particular releases—for example, the 3 September 2026 entry mentions an onboarding issue affecting some users—but that is not evidence that onboarding is causing your problem.

2. Use Windows Repair or Reset if the options appear
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find CCleaner, select its menu, and choose Advanced options if that option is available.
- Select Repair first, then test CCleaner.
- If the problem continues and Windows offers it, select Reset, then test the app again.
Microsoft’s general Windows app guidance recommends trying Repair before Reset. Reset is a separate, more consequential recovery action; read any Windows prompt carefully before confirming it. Microsoft notes that “Not all desktop apps support repair or reset options.” If these controls are missing for your CCleaner installation, move to the reinstall step rather than assuming Windows is broken.
3. Uninstall and reinstall CCleaner
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find CCleaner, open its menu, and choose Uninstall. Follow the Windows prompts.
- Download the Windows installer from CCleaner’s official download page, then follow the installer prompts.
- Open CCleaner and check whether the original failure remains.
Reinstalling is a reasonable recovery attempt if Repair or Reset is unavailable or ineffective, not a guaranteed cure. If the issue persists, Microsoft advises contacting the app publisher. Consider Windows’ broader reset options only as a later escalation, after reviewing their effects and deciding whether they are appropriate for your PC.

What to do if the problem remains
- Keep the exact error message and note whether the failure occurs during installation, launch, an update, or one feature.
- Use the official CCleaner download and release-history pages rather than third-party installers.
- If Windows or security software shows a warning, document its wording and follow current Microsoft or publisher guidance. Do not bypass the warning or disable broad security protections based on a general troubleshooting article.
- When contacting CCleaner support, include your Windows version, CCleaner version, the failed step, and the error text.
