Secondary coverage dates the bidding close to October 4, 2026, Pacific time, and records the result on October 5. The primary auction archive was not available for confirmation, and a sales tracker labels the result “pending payment,” so the figure should be treated as a reported result rather than proof of completed settlement.
Which Pokémon card reportedly sold for $360,000?
The card was the English Aquapolis Holo Lugia numbered 149/147, commonly called Crystal Lugia. The October 2026 coverage identifies it as a 2003 card graded PSA Gem Mint 10. Polkastarter attributed the $360,000 result to Fanatics Collect Weekly; its report says the amount includes the buyer’s premium. Because the original lot record was not retrieved, both the attribution and fee detail remain secondary reporting rather than independently checked auction terms.
The reported result is far above earlier cited sales for the same PSA 10 card. Polkastarter reported an August 25, 2026 sale at $148,511 and an April 2026 Goldin sale at $95,770. Cardtrack separately lists a $132,000 auction entry dated August 24. These records differ by date and transaction source, so the August figures should not be collapsed into one definitive prior price.
What makes Aquapolis Crystal Lugia distinctive?
Aquapolis was one of the first e-Reader-era Pokémon sets, alongside Expedition and Skyridge. Its Crystal Pokémon feature the Poké-Body Crystal Type: according to the October 6 Pokémon Hub article, the Pokémon’s type can change until the end of the turn based on the type of Basic Energy attached. Lugia’s number, 149/147, places it beyond the set’s stated 147-card count, marking it as a secret-numbered card.

The same article credits the artwork to Naoyo Kimura and describes Lugia rising from the sea within the card’s compact e-Reader-era art window. That visual design is part of the card’s collector appeal, but aesthetic judgments are subjective. The article characterizes the early e-Reader sets as having relatively limited print runs without providing a print-run figure; no numerical rarity claim follows from that description.
Did the 30th anniversary cause the record price?
The anniversary is relevant context, not a demonstrated cause. Pokémon Hub reports that Crystal Lugia returned in the 30th Celebration set and became one of that set’s valuable cards. The vintage card’s auction result occurred amid the franchise’s 30th-anniversary year, but the available reporting does not establish that anniversary excitement drove bidding or quantify any effect.

Polkastarter also described a strong period for Lugia cards and quoted a Goldin lot description calling Lugia “arguably the key Pokémon chase subject from Generation II.” That is promotional wording from an auction description, not independent evidence that one factor explains the price.

No. The $360,000 figure is a reported auction result for one copy graded PSA Gem Mint 10. It is not a price estimate for an ungraded card, a lower-grade copy, or other Lugia cards. Condition, authenticity, grading, venue, fees, and the terms and completion status of a transaction can all affect comparisons. The cited reporting does not establish a current fair value for other grades.
