Choose Dashlane if you want ten accounts in one family subscription and value its monitoring and VPN features—while noting that only the Friends & Family plan manager gets VPN access. Prices and included features can change, so confirm your region, billing term, and renewal amount at checkout.

Which password manager should you choose?
Choose 1Password for its sharing and travel workflow
- Pick 1Password if you want a family subscription that allows up to five invitees and supports unlimited shared vaults. Check how the plan counts its organizer and invitees before assuming a total user count.
- Its expiring item links can be shared with people who do not use 1Password, which is useful when you need to send an item outside your household without asking the recipient to create an account.
- Travel Mode and the additional Secret Key are notable reasons to consider it if those features match your needs.
Choose Dashlane for more family accounts and bundled features
- Friends & Family covers ten accounts in one subscription, making it worth considering when account count is the deciding factor.
- Dashlane includes documented monitoring and scam or phishing alerts, plus VPN access for the Friends & Family plan manager. Invited family members do not receive that VPN access.
- Dashlane’s plan and login features can vary by platform or account state, so verify that the features you need are available on your devices.
Let your devices and renewal price break a tie
Both managers can look good on a plan comparison and still feel different in daily use. Check autofill on the phones, computers, browsers, and apps you actually use. Then compare the price shown for your location and billing term, including the amount due at renewal rather than only a new-customer promotion.

Security differences without a false “safest” verdict
1Password adds a Secret Key and Travel Mode
1Password describes account protection that uses both an account password and a Secret Key. It also offers Travel Mode and Watchtower alerts. Those are meaningful design and account-management distinctions, but they do not establish that 1Password is categorically safer or immune to breaches. Review 1Password’s security information.
Dashlane bundles monitoring and alerts
Dashlane documents Dark Web Monitoring, real-time scam and phishing alerts, and VPN features on its personal plans. Its September 8, 2026 support article also identifies AI-powered Scam Protection, passkey support, and passwordless login among recent additions. Feature access can depend on platform and account state; confirm the current plan details and device support before relying on a specific feature. See Dashlane’s feature updates.

Sharing with people outside your account
1Password’s expiring item links can be sent to people who do not have a 1Password account. That is distinct from sharing through vaults, where people need the relevant account access. Dashlane describes secure sharing of logins and notes with other Dashlane users. Consider who needs access and for how long when choosing between these workflows. Hardware keys are optional
A FIDO U2F-compatible security key, such as a compatible YubiKey or Titan, can serve as an optional second factor with 1Password; Dashlane also documents physical-key login. A practical way to make the final choice
- Count the people who need accounts. Compare 1Password’s up-to-five family invitees with Dashlane Friends & Family’s ten accounts, and verify how each plan counts its organizer.
- Identify your sharing needs. If you often need expiring links for people outside your password manager, 1Password documents that option. If your household shares among Dashlane users, check Dashlane’s sharing details.
- Decide which extras matter. Consider 1Password’s Secret Key and Travel Mode against Dashlane’s monitoring, alerts, and family-plan VPN access for the manager.
- Test everyday compatibility. Try autofill on your own devices and browsers, and check support for any platform-specific feature you depend on.
- Compare the actual checkout and renewal terms. Confirm region, billing term, promotional eligibility, price due now, renewal price, and included features on the vendor’s checkout page.
This comparison is based on official product and support documentation, not hands-on testing. That is why it can identify plan and feature distinctions, but not declare which app autofills better on your devices or offer a universal security ranking.
