Yes—1Password has a Linux desktop app, but the official installation route depends on your distribution and package format. The vendor provides stable DEB and RPM packages; its beta instructions also cover additional routes, including Arch’s AUR, tar.gz archives, and a community-maintained NixOS package. Check the documented GLIBC requirement before installing or updating: 1Password says Linux systems need GLIBC 2.31 or newer to update the app.
Is 1Password available for Linux?
Yes. 1Password offers a Linux desktop app for managing passwords, financial data, and secure notes, with data that synchronizes across your devices. The official download page provides DEB and RPM packages: 1Password for Linux downloads.
Availability does not mean every distribution has the same vendor-maintained stable package. The stable route is specifically documented for DEB- and RPM-based installations. Other distributions and package formats are covered in separate beta or nightly instructions, and some routes are community-maintained.
Choose the installation route that matches your system
| System or package type | Documented route | Channel and maintenance note |
|---|---|---|
| Debian or Ubuntu | Vendor DEB repository | Stable DEB installations track stable releases. |
| Fedora-family distributions | Vendor RPM repository | Stable RPM installations track stable releases. |
| SUSE or openSUSE | Vendor RPM repository guidance | Follow the distribution-specific instructions; update with zypper. |
| Arch Linux | AUR beta package documented by 1Password Support | AUR is a community repository mechanism, not a vendor-maintained stable package route. |
| NixOS | Community-maintained beta package listed in the support instructions | The package is not directly maintained by 1Password. |
| Other distributions or architectures | tar.gz archive route, where applicable | Choose the archive matching your CPU architecture and follow the vendor’s instructions. |
See the vendor’s beta and nightly installation instructions for the additional distribution and archive routes. For x86_64 systems, the instructions map to the amd64 archive; for aarch64, use arm64. Confirm your system architecture before downloading.

What about Linux Mint and Manjaro?
The cited official instructions do not establish a separate stable package route specifically for Mint or Manjaro. If you use a derivative, follow its upstream package route only when it is compatible with your distribution, and check current 1Password instructions for the applicable package and channel. Do not assume that a route documented for Ubuntu or Arch automatically applies to every derivative.
Install the stable release on Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, or SUSE
For the supported DEB and RPM routes, use the vendor’s repository setup instructions from the official Linux download page, selecting the guidance for your distribution. Adding the repository lets the distribution’s package manager handle subsequent updates. The exact setup commands can change, so use the current commands published there rather than copying an older command from an unrelated guide.

- Debian and Ubuntu: use the DEB repository route.
- Fedora-family distributions: use the RPM repository route.
- SUSE and openSUSE: use the RPM guidance applicable to your system.
The stable release page showed version 8.12.36, dated September 9, 2026, when checked on September 28, 2026. That is a dated snapshot, not a claim that it remains the latest version today. The vendor says stable DEB and RPM installations track stable releases and that it expects stable releases every one to two months. Check the current stable release notes.
Install beta or nightly builds on other routes
Beta and nightly installations are a separate choice from the stable DEB/RPM route. 1Password’s support instructions list distro-specific package-manager methods, an Arch AUR beta package, tar.gz archives for amd64 and arm64, and a community-maintained NixOS beta package. Follow the relevant section of the official beta and nightly guide; do not treat the availability of a beta route as evidence of a vendor-maintained stable package for that distribution.

- USB-C or tap via NFC for easy authentication on any compatible device. No drivers needed; optional Kensington software available for advanced management features.
- Works across Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, ChromeOS, and supports Passkeys and Apple ID.
- Slim, keychain-ready form for easy carry and on-the-go authentication
- IP68-rated for dependable performance
- FIDO CTAP 2.1 for enhanced security features (e.g. resident credentials, Passkey support) and backwards compatibility with CTAP 2. FIDO2 L2 certified security for phishing resistant protection against identity theft and unauthorized access.
The vendor describes beta releases as weekly and warns that they are more likely to have regressions. Choose beta only if you specifically want earlier builds and accept that additional risk. Stable is the more appropriate channel for most users who want the standard release path.
Check GLIBC before updating
1Password Support says systems using GLIBC 2.30 or older cannot update the app; the documented threshold is GLIBC 2.31 or newer. To check the installed version, open a terminal and run:

Read the version shown in the output and compare it with the support requirement. If the system has GLIBC 2.30 or older, the support guidance says the app cannot be updated on that system. Consult the distribution’s supported upgrade path rather than attempting to replace a core system library manually. See 1Password’s Linux update troubleshooting guide.

| Installation route | Update method identified by 1Password |
|---|---|
| Debian or Ubuntu DEB | apt |
| Fedora-family RPM | dnf |
| SUSE or openSUSE RPM | zypper |
| Arch AUR, tar.gz, Snap, or Flatpak | Use the separate procedure for that installation method in the vendor’s update guide. |
Do not mix update procedures: for example, a package-manager command for a repository installation is not a substitute for the instructions for an archive, Snap, or Flatpak installation.
When an update fails
First confirm how 1Password was installed, then use the corresponding update route and check the GLIBC version. The stable release notes also document a historical example: version 8.12.34, dated August 25, 2026, fixed a repository configuration issue that could cause a GPG verification error on Fedora 41 or later. This was a version-specific fix; it does not establish that Fedora 41 currently has an unresolved problem. Read the 8.12.34 release notes.
