The right Microsoft Edge extension can remove intrusive ads, fill passwords, save research, translate pages, record a walkthrough, or show whether a shopping price is actually good. The wrong one can slow pages down, change your search engine, request excessive permissions, or stop working after an Edge update.
This ranking focuses on practical features rather than download counts. It combines everyday usefulness, how clearly each extension solves a problem, and how much control it gives you. Store availability, permissions, and compatibility can change, so check the publisher and requested access before installing.

1. uBlock Origin: best for blocking ads and trackers
uBlock Origin is the strongest first install for readers who want cleaner pages, fewer distractions, and less tracking. It uses filter lists to block advertising, tracking scripts, malicious domains, and other unwanted page elements. Its controls are more granular than a simple on/off blocker: you can allow a site, inspect blocked requests, and maintain custom rules.

- 7-Ppiece Set: The high duster kit includes a spider web duster x 1; ultra-fine fiber duster x 1; stainless steel telescopic pole x 1; gap cleaning head x 1; chenille cleaning brush x 1; replacement short handle x 1; storage net bag x 1. The feather duster set is perfect for cleaning furniture, ceilings, ceiling fans, stairs, window sills, and spider webs.dusters for cleaning
- Extended and Thickened Telescopic Pole: With the addition of the feather duster's length, the feather duster equipped with the telescopic pole can extend up to 110 inches in height. The thicker rod provides more stability when cleaning high places, reducing wobbling. The duster pole head is equipped with a soft cover, so there's no need to worry about scratching the walls.
- Bendable Duster Head: The ultra-fine fiber long duster features a built-in bendable metal rod. By folding it into the appropriate shape, it can reach and clean areas that are out of sight, such as the top of a desk or the back of a ceiling fan. The ultra-fine fiber duster has a slight positive charge, which allows it to easily attract and hold hair and dust.
- Gap Cleaning Brush: The set includes a gap cleaning head with a 0.5mm thickness, designed to clean gaps, under beds, refrigerators, washing machines, and other hard-to-reach crevices and corners, solving the hassle of cleaning gaps in your home.
- Comes With a Small Handle: The replacement short handle allows for more convenient cleaning of homes, cars, sofas, etc., with multifunctional use, all in one set.house cleaning supplies, cobweb duster outdoor
It can occasionally cause a page, video player, login flow, or checkout screen to malfunction. Rather than removing it immediately, open its popup and temporarily disable it for the affected site, then reload the page. Some sites also show an anti-ad-blocking message; temporarily disabling ad-blocking extensions is the quickest diagnostic.
2. Bitwarden: best password manager
Bitwarden stores passwords, passkeys, secure notes, and payment details in a vault protected by a master password. The Edge extension can fill credentials and generate long, unique passwords while you create accounts.
Use a strong, unique master password and enable two-step verification on your Bitwarden account. A password manager is most valuable when it replaces password reuse—not when it simply stores the same weak password for every site.
3. Microsoft Editor: best general writing assistant
Microsoft Editor checks spelling and grammar while you type in webmail, forms, social networks, and online documents. It is a convenient choice for people already using Microsoft 365 and who want basic corrections without opening a separate editor.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Review suggestions instead of accepting every change automatically. Browser writing tools can see text on pages where they are active, so restrict site access if you do not want the extension enabled everywhere.
4. Dark Reader: best custom dark mode
Dark Reader applies a dark theme to sites that do not provide one. Its useful controls include brightness, contrast, sepia, and per-site exclusions. That makes it more practical than a browser-wide forced color inversion, especially for news pages, documentation, and web applications.
Some pages look wrong because the extension changes their colors or images. If a site becomes unreadable, disable Dark Reader for that domain or isolate it by switching extensions off one at a time.
5. OneNote Web Clipper: best for collecting research
OneNote Web Clipper sends a complete webpage, a selected region, or a simplified article to a OneNote notebook. It is useful for students, researchers, and anyone collecting reference material rather than merely bookmarking tabs.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesAdd a short note or source URL to each clipping. A notebook full of unlabelled screenshots is difficult to search later, and clipped pages may not preserve every interactive element or embedded asset.
6. Grammarly: best for tone and rewriting suggestions
Grammarly goes beyond spelling by offering grammar, clarity, tone, and rewriting feedback. It is particularly useful for emails, support replies, applications, and other writing where the wording matters.
Rank #2
- EXTENDABLE DUSTER - This telescoping duster can be extended to 100". Extend the high duster to the length you need. For cleaning jobs of different heights, just this household cleaning tool is enough.
- COMFORTABLE TO GRIP - Ergonomic design, plastic material at the end of the handle, durable and non-slip, more comfortable to grip. A good fan duster, also an excellent wall duster. Make you fall in love with cleaning.
- BENDABLE MICROFIBER DUSTER - Includes stainless steel extension pole*1, microfiber duster head*1, cobweb brush*1. Bendable duster head can quickly capture and absorb fine dust and hair on the ceiling fan.
- WASHABLE DUSTER - Our duster is easy to disassemble, replace and wash. Just remove the duster head from the pole, wash it with warm water, then hang it in a ventilated place to make it fluffy for next use.
- BETTER GUARANTEE - If you experience an issue with our duster, please get in touch with us to repair or replace it. And if you have any questions during use, contact us at any time, we will solve them for you.
Do not paste confidential customer data, legal material, passwords, or private medical information into a writing assistant without checking its current privacy terms. For short, informal writing, Microsoft Editor may be enough; Grammarly is more useful when you want style feedback.
7. Todoist: best for turning pages into tasks
The Todoist extension turns a webpage into a task, often preserving the page title and link. That is a simple way to convert “read this later,” “compare this product,” or “follow up on this page” into an actionable list item.
Include a due date, project, or label when saving an item. Otherwise the extension can become a faster way to build an unmanageable reading backlog.
8. Pocket: best for a read-later queue
Pocket is designed for saving articles and webpages to read across devices. It suits readers who want a separate queue instead of leaving dozens of tabs open.
Use tags or archive items after reading them. If every saved article remains in the default list forever, Pocket becomes another inbox rather than a useful reading system.
9. Honey: best for trying coupon codes
Honey can test promotional codes during checkout and surface available offers. It is convenient when a retailer supports the extension and you would otherwise search manually for codes.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Compare the final price, shipping, return policy, and membership requirements. A coupon that saves 10% is not a deal if another retailer sells the same item for less.
10. Rakuten: best for browser-activated cash back
Rakuten highlights eligible cash-back offers and lets you activate them before shopping. The extension is useful for people who regularly buy from participating retailers and remember to confirm that tracking has activated.
Cash-back rates, exclusions, payout rules, and qualifying products vary. Treat the offer as a bonus—not as a reason to buy something you did not need.
11. Loom: best for quick screen recordings
Loom records a browser tab, window, or screen and produces a shareable video. It is often faster than writing a long explanation for a software problem, product demonstration, or process walkthrough.
Rank #3
Before recording, close private tabs and disable microphone or camera access if they are unnecessary. Check the sharing setting before sending the link; a recording containing internal information should not be publicly accessible.
12. Immersive Translate: best for bilingual webpages
Immersive Translate displays translated content alongside the original page, which is helpful when you need to compare wording or read documentation in another language. Bilingual output is also useful when machine translation needs checking.
Machine translation can misread technical, legal, medical, or culturally specific language. Use the original text for decisions where a small translation error matters.
13. SponsorBlock: best for skipping in-video sponsorships
SponsorBlock skips community-marked sponsored segments in YouTube videos. It can also identify other categories such as intros, outros, and subscription reminders, depending on your settings.

14. Keepa: best for checking Amazon price history
Keepa adds price-history charts and alerts to Amazon product pages. This helps answer a more useful question than “is this discounted?”—namely, whether the current price is low compared with that product’s own history.
Check the exact variation, seller, condition, delivery cost, and regional marketplace. A chart for one size or seller does not automatically describe every offer on the page.
15. Wappalyzer: best for identifying website technologies
Wappalyzer detects technologies used by websites, such as content-management systems, analytics services, ecommerce platforms, and JavaScript frameworks. It is useful for developers, marketers, sales teams, and students researching how sites are built.
Recommended Free Tools
Detection is based on publicly visible signals and is not guaranteed to be complete. Treat the results as clues for further research, not as a definitive inventory of a site’s infrastructure.
How to install an Edge extension
- Select the Extensions puzzle-piece icon to the right of Edge’s address bar.
- If the icon is not visible, select Settings and more (
...) > Extensions. - Select Get Extensions for Microsoft Edge.
- Search for the extension, confirm the publisher, and select Get.
- Select Add extension.
- Read Edge’s confirmation and review the extension’s permissions.
Edge also supports many extensions from the Chrome Web Store. If you use that route, Edge may ask you to enable Allow extensions from other stores. The exact wording can change, so verify the prompt in your current browser and install only from a store listing you trust.
Control what an extension can access
Do not give every extension access to every page by default. To change access, open Extensions > Manage Extensions, select Details under the extension, and review Site access.

Depending on the extension and Edge version, you can choose On specific sites, On click, or broader options such as On all sites. From the extension menu, the permission control may appear as This can read and change site data, with choices including When you click the extension, On [current site], and On all sites.
Other controls can include:
- Automatically allow access on the following sites
- Allow in InPrivate
- Allow access to file URLs
Host permissions allow an extension to view or modify webpages. Device permissions can cover capabilities such as storage, screen viewing, USB access, or communication with native programs. A password manager, screen recorder, and coupon tool do not need identical permissions, so question unusually broad requests.
How to disable or remove an extension
To pause an extension, select Extensions > Manage Extensions, then switch off its toggle. Microsoft documentation also shows the label Manage extension in some Edge entry points.
To remove one from the toolbar:
- Select Extensions.
- Select More actions (
...) beside the extension. - Select Remove from Microsoft Edge.
- Select Remove in the confirmation dialog.
You can also open Extensions > Manage Extensions, select Remove under the installed extension, and confirm again.

It is installed but does nothing
- Confirm its toggle is enabled.
- Check whether the extension has an update.
- Disable and re-enable it.
- Update Edge.
- Open Manage Extensions > Details and check compatibility with your Edge version.
It disappeared from the puzzle-piece menu
Open edge://extensions or use Extensions > Manage Extensions. Confirm the extension is enabled. If it is enabled but absent from the menu, restart Edge and reinstall it if necessary.
A website looks broken
Extensions that change page appearance or block scripts are common causes. Disable suspected extensions individually, reload the page after each change, and note which one fixes the problem. For readability without an extension, try Immersive Reader with the book icon in the address bar or F9, or use Settings and more > Zoom.
Search or the New Tab page changed
Some extensions modify browser settings. Restore the search engine through Settings and more > Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Search and connected experiences > Address bar and search. Under Search engine used in address bar, select your preferred engine.
For the New Tab page, go to Settings > Start, home, and new tab page. Disable or remove any extension that keeps changing the setting.
Edge turned the extension off
Edge can disable extensions that try to change important browser settings—such as the search engine, New Tab page, or site preferences—without permission. Re-enable it through Settings and more > Extensions > Manage extension, then use its toggle. If Edge disables it again, remove it and investigate the publisher and permissions.
It says “managed by your organization”
Open edge://extensions. A briefcase icon beside an extension’s control indicates that a policy manages it. Review active policies at edge://policy; relevant policy names include ExtensionSettings and ExtensionInstallForcelist.

On a work or school computer, contact the administrator. On an unmanaged personal computer, an unexpected policy can indicate unwanted software. Run a full Microsoft Defender or reputable antivirus scan and report the issue through Settings and more > Help and Feedback > Send feedback.
Microsoft documents these commands for deleting Edge policy keys. Use an elevated Command Prompt or PowerShell window only after confirming the computer is not managed and after backing up important data:
reg delete HKCUSOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftEdge /f
reg delete HKLMSOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftEdge /f
Registry changes can damage browser or system configuration. Do not run these commands on an organization-managed computer to bypass its controls.
How many Edge extensions should you install?
Install only what you use. Each extension can add page scripts, background activity, permissions, update risk, or compatibility problems. A practical starting set is one password manager, one writing or reading tool, and one privacy tool. Add shopping, recording, or research extensions only when you need their specific function.
Review the installed list every few months at edge://extensions. Remove extensions you no longer recognize or use, and recheck permissions after major updates. For company-managed Edge deployments, administrators can enforce allowlists and blocklists, force-install extensions, and restrict access to particular websites.
FAQ
Are these extensions officially recommended by Microsoft?
No. This is an editorial ranking based on features and common use cases. Microsoft provides the Edge browser and extension platform, but it does not certify this list as the 15 best extensions.
Can I install Chrome extensions in Microsoft Edge?
Edge supports many Chrome Web Store extensions. You may need to enable the option allowing extensions from other stores. Check the current Edge prompt, publisher, permissions, and compatibility before installing.
Recommended Free Tools
How do I stop an Edge extension from reading every website?
Open Extensions > Manage Extensions > Details, then review Site access. Choose On click or On specific sites where available. You can also use the extension menu’s This can read and change site data control for the current site.
Why did Edge disable my extension?
Edge may disable an extension that attempts to change settings such as the search engine, New Tab page, or site preferences without permission. Re-enable it from Extensions > Manage extension. If it disables itself again, remove it and check its publisher and permissions.
The Bottom Line
For most Edge users, start with Bitwarden for account security and uBlock Origin for cleaner browsing. Add Microsoft Editor, Dark Reader, or Pocket according to your routine, then use specialist tools such as Keepa, Loom, or Wappalyzer only when their feature justifies the access they request. Keep the list small, restrict site permissions, and remove extensions that stop receiving updates or no longer earn their place.
