If the Teams meeting option is missing from Outlook, first check whether you use new Outlook or classic Outlook for Windows. New Outlook has a built-in Teams meeting control and does not use the classic COM add-in; classic Outlook relies on the Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office.
Try the safe checks first. DLL registration, registry changes, and policy troubleshooting are advanced steps best handled by an administrator.
1. Check whether you use new Outlook or classic Outlook
In new Outlook, create a calendar event and look for the Teams meeting toggle. There is no separate COM add-in to install. New Outlook requires the new Teams client, and Outlook and Teams must use the same work or school account.
In classic Outlook, open Calendar and create an event. The expected command is New Teams Meeting on the ribbon. The COM add-in is named Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office.

Do not try to install the classic add-in into new Outlook; it is not supported there. Microsoft’s guidance for new Outlook covers its native Teams meeting control.
2. Reset Teams integration in new Outlook
If the Teams meeting toggle is missing in new Outlook, reset the connection between the apps:
- Close Outlook.
- Right-click the Teams icon in the Windows taskbar notification area.
- Select Quit Teams.
- Start Teams and sign in.
- Start Outlook and check a new calendar event.
Confirm that both applications use the same work or school account.
3. Install the Teams desktop client
The classic Outlook integration cannot be installed when you use Teams only in a browser. Install the Teams desktop client on the same Windows computer as classic Outlook, then sign in and restart Outlook.
A browser tab does not provide the COM component that classic Outlook needs.
4. Sign in to Teams with the correct account
For new Outlook, the Outlook and Teams accounts must match. Check the profile or account menu in both applications for differences such as:
- A personal Microsoft account in Teams and a work or school account in Outlook
- Different Microsoft 365 tenants
- An old organization account left signed in
Classic Outlook also requires Teams authentication using Modern Authentication. If you canceled an authentication or MFA prompt, Teams may still run while Outlook cannot schedule a Teams meeting. Sign out of Teams, sign back in, complete any prompt, and restart Outlook. See Microsoft’s authentication requirements.
5. Fully quit Teams and Outlook, then start Teams first
After a Teams installation or upgrade, restart Teams before classic Outlook:

- Close Outlook.
- Right-click Teams in the taskbar notification area and select Quit Teams.
- Start Teams and sign in.
- Start Outlook.
Closing a window may leave an app running in the background. Check the notification area or Task Manager if needed.
6. Re-enable the COM add-in in classic Outlook
Outlook may have moved the Teams component to its disabled list:
- Open classic Outlook and select File > Options > Add-ins.
- Check whether Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office appears under Active Application Add-ins.
- If it appears under Disabled Application Add-ins, select COM Add-ins in the Manage box.
- Select Go…, tick the Teams add-in, and select OK on each dialog.
- Close and restart Outlook.
If the add-in is not listed, continue with the installation and registration checks.
7. Check Outlook’s Slow and Disabled COM Add-ins page
Outlook can automatically disable an add-in after detecting slow startup or shutdown, crashes, or other performance problems. In Outlook 2016 and later:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Select File > Slow and Disabled COM Add-ins.
- Find the Teams add-in.
- Select Always enable this add-in, if offered.
Forcing a slow add-in to remain enabled can affect Outlook performance. If Outlook reports a problem, investigate its cause rather than repeatedly overriding the warning. See Microsoft’s guidance on disabled add-ins.
8. Run Microsoft’s classic Outlook add-in troubleshooter
Microsoft provides a classic Teams add-in for classic Outlook troubleshooter through Get Help. It is intended for Windows 10 or later, must run on the same computer as classic Outlook, and does not work with new Outlook.
- Open Microsoft’s Teams Meeting add-in troubleshooting page and start the classic Outlook troubleshooter.
- When Windows displays “This site is trying to open Get Help,” select Open.
- Follow the instructions in Get Help.
9. Uninstall the Teams Meeting Add-in and let new Teams reinstall it
If the button disappeared after moving from classic Teams to new Teams, Microsoft documents removing the meeting add-in separately and allowing new Teams to reinstall it:
- Right-click Start and select Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Teams Meeting Add-in, select the three dots beside it, and choose Uninstall.
- Close Outlook.
- Right-click the Teams icon in the notification area and select Quit.
- Start new Teams again.
- Wait for Teams Meeting Add-in to reappear under Installed apps.
- Restart Outlook.
See Microsoft’s documented fix after updating to new Teams.

10. Remove a stale add-in left by a Teams migration
A failed Teams migration can leave an old or incomplete installation. Microsoft’s administrator guidance uses different scripts depending on the installed add-in version:
- Quit Teams and close Outlook.
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Teams Meeting Add-in and note its version.
If there is no result, or the version begins with 1.23, download Microsoft’s UninstallOldTMA.ps1 script from the Teams add-in troubleshooting article. Open PowerShell as administrator and run the downloaded script. Then start new Teams, wait for the add-in to return, and restart Outlook.
If the version does not begin with 1.23, download Microsoft’s UninstallTMA.ps1 script from that article. Run it from a normal PowerShell window, start Teams again, wait for the add-in to reappear, and restart Outlook.
Use the scripts supplied in Microsoft’s current article; the local download path can differ between computers.

Use this advanced repair only after closing Teams and Outlook. The command must match the bitness of Office, not necessarily Windows.
- In File Explorer, go to %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\TeamsMeetingAddin.
- Open the version subfolder. If multiple folders have the same version, use the one with the highest build number.
- Open an elevated Command Prompt and run the command for your Office installation.
For 64-bit Office:
%SystemRoot%\System32\regsvr32.exe /n /i:user “<add-in-version-path>\x64\Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll”
For 32-bit Office:
%SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\regsvr32.exe /n /i:user “<add-in-version-path>\x86\Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll”
For example, the version path might be %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\TeamsMeetingAddin\1.0.23334.11. Replace the placeholder with the full path to your version folder.

- Restart Outlook.
Ensure Outlook is not configured to run as administrator; different privilege levels can prevent a per-user add-in from loading. Microsoft documents this repair in its add-in troubleshooting guide.
12. Correct the Outlook registry load behavior
A registry value can tell Outlook not to load the Teams add-in. Back up the registry before changing it.
- Press Windows + R, type regedit.exe, and press Enter.
- Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\TeamsAddin.FastConnect.
- Find LoadBehavior and set its value to 3.
- Close Registry Editor and restart Outlook.
A value other than 3 can stop the add-in from loading at startup. If the key is missing, the add-in may not be installed or registered; return to the reinstall and DLL-registration steps rather than creating random keys.

If the add-in is installed but still unavailable, the cause may be controlled by Microsoft 365 or Windows administration.

An administrator can open the Teams admin center, select Meetings > Meeting Policies, open the applicable policy, and check the Meeting scheduling section. Enable Private meeting scheduling and Outlook add-in where appropriate, then select Save. Policy changes may not apply immediately.
Check the Office installation type
The Teams Meeting Add-in is not supported with Outlook installed from the Microsoft Store. Microsoft recommends the Click-to-Run version of Office for this integration. Check the exact Office edition and build when assessing support; Microsoft’s current pages differ on some older Office versions.
Check security controls
Outlook or Windows security policy may block the add-in DLL even though it is installed. Administrators should review:
- Configure trusted add-ins
- Block all unmanaged add-ins
- List of managed add-ins
- AppLocker rules
- Outlook Trust Center policies
If the organization approves trusted add-ins by file hash, the current Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll must be approved. Teams updates can replace the DLL and make an older approved hash invalid. Microsoft documents common locations as %localappdata%\Microsoft\TeamsMeetingAddin for per-user installations and C:\Program Files(x86)\TeamsMeetingAddin for per-machine installations. See Microsoft’s Teams meeting add-in security guidance.

Confirm mailbox and proxy requirements
The classic add-in requires an Exchange mailbox for the meeting organizer. It also does not work when an authentication proxy sits between the computer and Teams services.
For shared mailboxes, either the shared mailbox or the scheduling user needs a valid Teams license. Add the shared mailbox as a separate account for scheduling; scheduling from a calendar accessed only through automapping is not supported. In some cases, remove the mailbox and add it again through File > Add Account. See Microsoft’s guidance on Teams meetings with shared mailboxes.
Which fix should you try first?
| What you see | Most useful next step |
|---|---|
| You use new Outlook and there is no Teams toggle | Quit and restart Teams, then confirm both apps use the same account. |
| The COM add-in is listed as disabled | Re-enable it under File > Options > Add-ins. |
| The button disappeared after switching to new Teams | Uninstall the Teams Meeting Add-in and let new Teams reinstall it. |
| The add-in is installed but will not load | Check Slow and Disabled COM Add-ins, LoadBehavior, and security policies. |
| The add-in is not listed | Check the Teams desktop installation, then use migration cleanup or DLL registration. |
| Only shared-mailbox scheduling fails | Check licensing, separate-account setup, and automapping limitations. |
Claims that can send you in the wrong direction
- “Install the add-in in new Outlook.” New Outlook uses native Teams meeting functionality, not the classic COM add-in.
- “Find it under Get Add-ins.” In classic Outlook for Windows, this is a COM add-in installed by the Teams desktop client.
- “Reinstalling Teams always fixes it.” A stale migration can require removing the Teams Meeting Add-in itself.
- “Windows bitness tells you which DLL to register.” Match the command to Office bitness: System32 with x64 for 64-bit Office, or SysWOW64 with x86 for 32-bit Office.
- “A missing button proves the add-in is not installed.” Outlook can disable it, registry settings can prevent loading, and security policies can block its DLL.
FAQ
What is the official name of the missing Teams add-in?
It is called Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office. In classic Outlook for Windows, it is a COM add-in that normally provides the New Teams Meeting command.
Does new Outlook for Windows use the Teams COM add-in?
No. New Outlook does not support the classic COM add-in. It has a built-in Teams meeting toggle, which requires the new Teams client and matching work or school accounts in Outlook and Teams.
Why is the Teams add-in not shown in Outlook’s COM Add-ins list?
Teams may be installed only in a browser, the add-in may have been removed during a Teams migration, registration may have failed, or an organization security policy may be blocking it. Check Installed apps for the Teams Meeting Add-in before attempting DLL registration.
Should I use 32-bit or 64-bit regsvr32?
Match the command to the bitness of Microsoft Office, not Windows. Use System32 and the x64 DLL for 64-bit Office; use SysWOW64 and the x86 DLL for 32-bit Office.
Can a shared mailbox schedule Teams meetings?
Yes, but licensing and account setup matter. The shared mailbox or scheduling user needs a valid Teams license, and the shared mailbox must be added as a separate account for scheduling; automapping alone is not supported for this use.
The Bottom Line
First distinguish new Outlook from classic Outlook: the former has a native Teams control, while the latter depends on the Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office COM add-in. For classic Outlook, check whether Outlook disabled the add-in before reinstalling anything. If the problem began after a Teams migration, remove the Teams Meeting Add-in and let new Teams reinstall it; then move to DLL registration, registry settings, and organization policy checks if needed.
