Peloton App One is the best overall fitness app for 2026 if you want one subscription with a wide range of instructor-led classes. Apple Fitness+ is the better choice for Apple Watch owners, Nike Run Club is the strongest free running coach, Nike Training Club is the best free general workout library, and Future is the closest option to having a personal trainer in your phone.
This lineup reflects hands-on testing and reporting published by WIRED, Tom’s Guide, Zapier, and WhistleOut, rather than personal testing by ResearchCore. Prices are United States prices where the provider publishes them and were checked for the 2026 comparison; app-store, promotional, annual, student, and regional pricing can differ. Recheck the provider’s checkout page before subscribing.
Quick comparison: the best fitness apps at a glance
| App | Best for | Current price or access model | Important caveat |

| Apple Fitness+ | Apple users | $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year | The richest metrics experience depends on compatible Apple hardware |
| Nike Run Club | Free running coaching | Free for Nike Members | Running-focused rather than a complete fitness platform |

| Fitbit Premium with Health Coach | Fitbit-centered AI guidance | Pricing varies by country, account, device, and signup path | Its value depends on Fitbit hardware and account data |
| Future | One-to-one human coaching | $199 monthly, or $149 monthly when paid annually | Much more expensive than a normal workout library |
| Garmin Connect+ | Garmin training analysis | Paid tier added to free Garmin Connect | Most useful if you already own a Garmin device |
| Supernatural | Immersive VR workouts | Current FAQ lists $9.99 monthly with a seven-day trial | The service is in a major 2026 transition; verify before buying |
| Crossrope | Jump-rope training | $99 annual membership listed on the reviewed page | The best experience requires compatible jump-rope equipment |
| obé Fitness | Energetic boutique-style classes | $24.99 monthly or $169.99 annually | Best for upbeat classes, not advanced performance analytics |
| Peloton Strength+ | Gym-based strength programming | Separate iOS strength app; access depends on Peloton membership | It is an iOS app, not an Android recommendation |
| Strava | Social running and cycling | Free basic service with paid features | Review privacy and location-sharing settings carefully |

1. Peloton App — best overall for variety and coached classes
Best for: People who want many workout styles, strong instructor personalities, and a polished mix of live and on-demand classes without buying a Peloton machine.
Peloton App One is the most versatile recommendation in this group. Its catalog covers strength, yoga, outdoor running, gym workouts, meditation, and other instructor-led sessions. That breadth makes it a practical single-subscription option for households whose workout preferences change from day to day.
Peloton announced that App One would cost $15.99 per month and App+ would cost $28.99 per month beginning in October 2025. App One does not require Peloton hardware. App+ adds full access to bike, treadmill, and rower content and includes Peloton Strength+ access under the applicable membership terms.

The app works across iOS, Android, Fire tablets, web browsers, Apple TV, Android TV, Roku, and Fire TV. Peloton also says third-party FTMS-enabled treadmills and rowers can connect for metrics. That gives equipment owners more flexibility than the brand’s hardware-first image suggests.
Watch out for the membership tiers. App One, App+, Strength+, and equipment memberships are not interchangeable. Before subscribing, confirm that the exact class type you want is included in the tier shown at checkout. App One is the right value for general classes; it should not be described as a key to every equipment workout.

2. Apple Fitness+ — best for Apple users
Best for: iPhone and Apple Watch owners who want short, polished classes with integrated activity metrics.
Apple Fitness+ offers 12 workout types, including strength, HIIT, yoga, cycling, and meditation. Sessions range from five to 45 minutes, new workouts are added weekly, and the service includes personalized recommendations and Custom Plans. It is particularly effective for users who want a class to fit a specific amount of time rather than committing to a long program.
The United States price is $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year. Apple allows sharing with up to five family members, subject to the applicable family-sharing setup. Availability, languages, and features vary by country.
Apple Fitness+ can be viewed through Apple devices, but its richest experience is tied to compatible hardware. Real-time metrics can come from an Apple Watch, AirPods Pro 3, or a compatible Bluetooth heart-rate monitor. That ecosystem integration is the main reason to choose it; it is not a platform-neutral service with identical functionality on every phone.
Choose it if your devices are already Apple-based. If you use Android, Garmin, or Fitbit as your primary ecosystem, another app will usually provide a more coherent experience.
3. Nike Run Club — best free running app
Best for: Beginners, recreational runners, and race trainees who want structured coaching without a premium running subscription.
Nike Run Club is free for Nike Members on iOS and Android. Its strongest feature is the collection of expert-created training plans: an eight-week 5K plan, an eight-week 10K plan, a 14-week half-marathon plan, and an 18-week marathon plan are among the documented options.
The app also includes approximately 300 audio-guided runs, interval sessions, challenges, community features, localized running information, and real-time location sharing. It can export activities to Strava and synchronize with Apple, Garmin, and Coros watches. Outdoor and indoor running are supported, and Apple Watch users can control runs from the watch.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe core experience is unusually good for a free app. You get guided coaching and a meaningful training structure without being pushed into a monthly plan. The trade-off is scope: Nike Run Club is primarily a running app. It is not a replacement for a strength library, nutrition service, recovery tracker, or one-to-one coach.
4. AllTrails Plus or Peak — best for outdoor routes and navigation
Best for: Hikers, walkers, trail runners, cyclists, and paddlers who need route discovery and offline navigation.
AllTrails is not a conventional guided workout app. Its value is helping you find an appropriate route, understand the trail before you leave, and navigate when cellular service is unreliable.

- 【Smart Message Notification】The watch can receive Social software message notifications from mobile phones, including SMS, QQ, WeChat, WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter, etc. Also can receive incoming call notifications and reject calls. so you never miss an important call or message.
The free Base tier is enough for basic trail discovery. Plus is listed at $35.99 per year and adds offline maps, trail previews, navigation, wrong-turn alerts, live activity sharing, and printed maps. Peak is listed at $79.99 per year and adds Plus benefits along with more advanced route planning, trail-condition information, custom routes, and other mapping features. Promotions and app-store prices may differ.
New users may receive a seven-day Plus or Peak trial. Billing is handled through the web, Apple, or Google Play depending on where you start the subscription. AllTrails also restructured memberships during 2025 and 2026: desktop Custom Routes became available to all members, while Trail Conditions moved into Plus and Peak retained the broadest feature set.
Do not treat AllTrails as your only safety system in a remote area. Download the map before leaving, manage your phone battery, carry a backup navigation method when appropriate, and tell someone where you are going. A route app can reduce navigational risk; it cannot eliminate it.
5. Fitbit Premium with Health Coach — best for Fitbit users wanting AI guidance
Best for: Fitbit owners who want an AI layer to interpret activity, health, and wearable data.
Fitbit’s AI Health Coach is the strongest choice here for Fitbit users who want conversational, personalized wellness guidance. Fitbit documents Premium-only AI personalization, including the ability to ask the health coach questions about cycle health and receive a tailored response. WIRED also identified Fitbit’s AI Health Coach as its leading AI health-coach pick.

The usefulness of the coach depends heavily on the Fitbit hardware you wear, the measurements it records, and the information available in your Fitbit account. Someone without Fitbit data should not subscribe expecting the same experience.
Fitbit Premium pricing and included features can vary by country, account, device promotion, and subscription path, so a single universal United States price would be misleading. Check the current Premium offer attached to your account before buying.
Health Coach should be treated as fitness and wellness guidance, not medical diagnosis or individualized medical treatment. It cannot replace a clinician’s assessment or guarantee a health result.
6. Future — best for one-to-one human coaching
Best for: People who want accountability, personalization, and an ongoing relationship with a real coach.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Future is better understood as app-based personal training than as a video library. A human coach creates a plan, sends training guidance, provides accountability, and can review form videos. WIRED describes coaching across a broad range of sports, with synchronization for Apple Watch and Google Pixel Watch.
That personal attention comes at a premium. Future’s official February 2026 pricing lists $199 per month, $537 for three months, $1,014 for six months, and $1,788 for 12 months. The annual plan works out to $149 per month when averaged across the year.
Future can be a good value for someone who would otherwise pay for personal training, but it is a poor fit if you only want occasional classes. Coach-user fit matters, and you should not assume a particular coach, response time, or fitness outcome is guaranteed.

7. Garmin Connect+ — best for Garmin users
Best for: Garmin owners who want deeper analysis and AI-assisted interpretation of their existing training data.
Recommended Free Tools
Garmin Connect remains the free data and training hub for Garmin wearables. Connect+ adds premium features including Active Intelligence AI insights, LiveTrack+, extra guidance for selected Garmin Coach plans, a customizable performance dashboard, and exclusive social badges and challenges.
Garmin’s 2026 materials also describe premium AI insights, adaptive coaching, nutrition tracking, performance dashboards, and additional Connect features. The central value proposition is not simply access to workouts; it is making more sense of data you are already collecting through a Garmin device.
Garmin does not provide a single price in the reviewed evidence that is reliable enough to publish as a universal current United States figure. Check the price in your Garmin account or app. Older reviews commonly cite approximately $7 per month, but that should not override the current checkout screen.
Connect+ is not the same thing as Garmin Coach. Garmin Coach refers to selected training plans and guidance, while Connect+ is the paid layer of the broader Garmin Connect service. Readers without Garmin hardware are likely to receive much less value.

8. Supernatural — best for immersive VR workouts, with a major transition warning
Best for: Meta Quest owners who enjoy immersive, coach-led cardio, boxing, recovery, and mindfulness sessions.
Supernatural uses virtual reality to turn workouts into guided experiences in immersive destinations. Its catalog includes Flow cardio, boxing, recovery, mindfulness, coach-led sessions, and licensed music. The current official FAQ lists a $9.99 monthly membership with a seven-day trial and requires Meta Quest hardware.
However, this is not a normal stable-subscription recommendation for 2026. Supernatural announced on June 3, 2026 that it was returning as an independent company, with coaches returning and a new app planned for fall 2026. The transition information reviewed for this article indicates that the existing Meta-era app and associated subscriptions are scheduled to wind down on December 3, 2026.
The exact relaunch date, final supported headset list, account-history migration process, and post-transition subscription price were not confirmed in the reviewed official material. If you are considering a Meta Quest headset primarily for Supernatural, check those details immediately before purchase. The current $9.99 price and current app should not be presented as guaranteed long-term terms for 2026–2027.
Also allow enough clear floor space, check headset fit, be cautious if you are sensitive to motion, and respect your own physical limits. VR can make a workout feel engaging, but it also makes it easier to lose awareness of nearby furniture, walls, and other people.
9. Crossrope — best for jump-rope training
Best for: People who enjoy cardio intervals, boxing-style conditioning, or gamified jump-rope workouts.
Crossrope combines a companion app with a physical jump-rope system. The app is available on iOS and Android and lists more than 50 targeted programs, jump-rope and bodyweight, dumbbell, and kettlebell workouts, smart jump counting, and adaptive targets. The reviewed membership page lists an annual price of $99.
This is a specialized training ecosystem rather than a general workout library. Crossrope sells weighted rope sets, handles, ropes, mats, and storage accessories, and eligible purchases can include workout access. The physical equipment is central to the app’s counting and progression features, so compare the total cost rather than looking only at the membership price.

Before starting, make sure you have enough ceiling height, floor clearance, and a surface that is suitable for repeated jumping. A jump-rope mat can make a home setup more practical, but it does not replace checking whether the space is safe.
10. obé Fitness — best for energetic boutique-style classes
Best for: Users who want short, upbeat, studio-inspired workouts at home.
obé’s current membership page advertises more than 10,000 on-demand classes, more than 20 class types, 22 live classes per day, and access through app, web, and TV platforms. The catalog includes cardio, strength, HIIT, dance, Pilates, sculpt, boxing, meditation, and recovery-oriented content.
The listed United States prices are $24.99 monthly or $169.99 annually, with a seven-day trial. obé is a good fit if energy, variety, and a boutique-studio feel motivate you more than detailed performance analytics or complex training plans.

11. Peloton Strength+ — best for gym-based strength programming
Best for: Gym members who want structured strength sessions without following a fixed video class.
Peloton Strength+ is separate from the regular Peloton video-class catalog and is designed around flexible gym sessions. WIRED highlights its workout generator, equipment-aware programming, audio-first guidance, timers, exercise substitutions, and the ability to listen to personal music or podcasts.
The equipment-aware approach is useful when a busy gym does not have the exact machine or dumbbell you expected. Instead of abandoning the session, you can substitute an exercise and continue following a structured plan.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →There are two important limitations. Strength+ is identified in Peloton’s terms as an iOS application, so it is not an Android option unless Peloton changes platform availability. Also, membership access varies: App+ and certain other Peloton memberships can include Strength+, but the plan shown at checkout determines what you actually receive.
12. Strava — best for social running and cycling
Best for: Runners, cyclists, hikers, and other outdoor athletes motivated by community, routes, challenges, and performance comparisons.
Strava is free to join and use at a basic level, with subscription features for deeper analysis, routes, training, and safety. Its feature set includes segment leaderboards, training plans, pace and power analysis, route creation, suggested routes, personal heatmaps, offline route maps, group challenges, and Beacon live-location sharing.
The service has iPhone, Android, and web apps and works with most GPS devices. Beacon can share your live location with up to three safety contacts. That makes Strava particularly useful for social motivation and recording outdoor activity across devices, rather than for following instructor-led classes.
Review your privacy settings before publishing activities. Public routes can reveal patterns close to your home, workplace, or school, and live location should be shared only with people you trust. Strava’s social features are a strength, but they require more privacy awareness than a private workout log.

13. Nike Training Club — best free general-purpose workout library
Best for: Beginners and budget-conscious users who want guided workouts without a standard paid subscription.
Nike Training Club is free on iOS and Android and covers strength, endurance, training, and broader wellness. Independent 2026 reviews describe hundreds of trainer-led sessions across strength, cardio, HIIT, yoga, mobility, mindfulness, nutrition, and recovery. It also supports scheduling, reminders, and equipment-free options.
Its filters let you narrow sessions by goal, muscle group, equipment, duration, level, and intensity. That makes it easier to find a genuinely usable workout than scrolling through an unstructured video archive.
Nike has changed its catalog and removed some older training programs, so do not promise that a particular legacy program remains available. Also keep it separate from Nike Run Club: Training Club is the broad workout library, while Run Club is the running-coaching app.
Optional equipment: what you may actually need
Most of these apps can begin with little or no specialized equipment, but hardware changes the experience for certain categories. A fitness tracker can help with activity data and metrics, but compatibility is not universal: Apple Fitness+, Fitbit, Garmin, Nike Run Club, and Strava do not all use the same devices or provide the same features.
- For home strength and classes: adjustable dumbbells, resistance bands, and a yoga mat are useful but not universally required. A compatible Bluetooth heart-rate monitor can help with apps that display live metrics, while workout headphones are useful for audio-led sessions.
- For Apple Fitness+: an Apple Watch provides the richest real-time metric experience, although other compatible hardware can provide some metrics.
- For Fitbit Premium or Garmin Connect+: the corresponding Fitbit or Garmin wearable is the main source of value.
- For Supernatural: a supported Meta Quest headset is required. Because the service is transitioning, verify the current hardware and software situation before buying.
- For Crossrope: the app is built around weighted jump ropes and related equipment rather than a generic no-equipment workout.
- For Nike Run Club, Strava, and AllTrails: running shoes, outdoor safety gear, a charged phone, and backup battery management matter more than gym equipment.
How to subscribe without paying for the wrong app
- Start with your actual training behavior. Choose a class library if you need variety, a training plan if you are preparing for a race, a tracker if you care about trends, a route app for outdoor navigation, or a coach if accountability is your main problem.
- Calculate the complete cost. Include the annual or monthly membership, required hardware, replacement accessories, and any separate equipment membership. A $9.99 app can be more expensive than expected if it requires a headset or wearable.
- Check the free-versus-paid boundary. Nike Run Club and Nike Training Club provide unusually substantial free experiences. Garmin Connect has a free base service. AllTrails Base is useful for discovery, while offline navigation is a paid feature.
- Use trials deliberately. During a seven-day trial, test the exact workout type you expect to use, not just the onboarding screen. Supernatural, AllTrails, and obé are among the services whose reviewed pages mention seven-day trials; confirm the current terms before starting.
- Confirm device compatibility first. Strength+ is an iOS app. Supernatural requires Meta Quest. Apple, Fitbit, and Garmin features are strongest inside their respective ecosystems.
- Check who bills you. Subscriptions started on the web, Apple, or Google Play may have different billing and cancellation locations. Keep the receipt and cancel through the same billing channel before the trial ends if you do not want renewal.
- Review privacy and safety controls. Outdoor users should understand Beacon, live sharing, and public-route settings. VR users should clear the workout area. Wearable users should treat health insights as guidance rather than diagnosis.
Which app should you pick?
| Your priority | Best starting point | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One broad class subscription | Peloton App One | Strong mix of strength, yoga, running, meditation, and coached formats |

| Free running plan | Nike Run Club | Structured 5K through marathon plans and audio coaching |
| Free general workouts | Nike Training Club | Broad guided library with equipment and duration filters |

| Social outdoor training | Strava | Segments, challenges, route tools, and athlete community |
| Wearable-based AI guidance | Fitbit Health Coach or Garmin Connect+ | The right choice depends on which wearable ecosystem you already use |

Frequently Asked Questions
Which fitness apps are genuinely free?
Nike Run Club and Nike Training Club are the clearest free recommendations. Garmin Connect also has a free base service, while Strava and AllTrails offer free tiers with paid features. Free access does not mean every advanced feature is included.
Do I need a Peloton machine to use the Peloton App?
No. Peloton App One can be used without Peloton hardware for classes such as strength, yoga, outdoor running, gym workouts, and meditation. App One should not be confused with App+, which adds broader access to bike, treadmill, and rower content.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat is the difference between Nike Run Club and Nike Training Club?
Nike Run Club is centered on outdoor and indoor running, guided runs, race plans, and running challenges. Nike Training Club is the general workout library, with strength, cardio, HIIT, yoga, mobility, mindfulness, recovery, and wellness content.
Is Apple Fitness+ useful without an Apple Watch?
Apple Fitness+ is an Apple ecosystem service, and the richest real-time metrics experience depends on compatible Apple hardware. Apple Watch owners get the most integrated experience; users should verify the features available on their specific Apple devices before subscribing.
Should I buy a Meta Quest headset for Supernatural in 2026?
Only after checking the current transition details. The existing Meta-era Supernatural app and associated subscriptions are scheduled to wind down on December 3, 2026, while the independent replacement app’s exact launch date, supported headsets, migration process, and final pricing were not confirmed in the reviewed material.
Are these apps medical or personal-health services?
No. They provide exercise guidance, coaching, tracking, or wellness information. They do not replace medical diagnosis or individualized care, and no app should be treated as a guarantee of weight loss, injury prevention, perfect form, or a particular health outcome.
The Bottom Line
For most people, start with Peloton App One if you want variety, Nike Training Club if you want a free general library, or Nike Run Club if you primarily run. Choose Apple Fitness+, Fitbit Premium, or Garmin Connect+ only when the corresponding device ecosystem is already part of your routine. Choose Future for human accountability, AllTrails or Strava for outdoor activity, and the specialized apps only when VR, jump rope, boutique classes, or gym programming is specifically what you want. The one purchase requiring extra caution is Supernatural: its 2026 service transition makes current pricing and long-term compatibility temporary questions rather than settled buying facts.
