There is no universal 75,000-mile replacement list: your vehicle’s make, model, year, engine, driving conditions, and service history determine what is due. Use the owner’s manual or the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule to decide which services to perform, and treat the items below as a checklist for what to verify—not a mandate to replace all 12 parts.
For context, Toyota says many of its vehicles have maintenance visits every 5,000 miles or six months and directs owners to a personalized schedule, owner’s manual, or dealer for the applicable requirements. A 1998 Toyota maintenance supplement is one model-specific example that lists oil and filter replacement, tire rotation, and several inspections at 75,000 miles or 60 months. It is not a current rule for every Toyota, much less every car.
What should you replace at 75,000 miles?
Replace only what your vehicle’s schedule calls for or an inspection shows is worn, damaged, or no longer performing properly. The distinction matters: a maintenance schedule may say to inspect a component without requiring its replacement.
Toyota’s 1998 schedule, for example, specifies engine oil and filter replacement and tire rotation at 75,000 miles or 60 months. It also calls for inspections of several brake, steering, belt, exhaust, and driveline components. Because that schedule is historical and vehicle-specific, use it as an illustration of how a service interval can work—not as a checklist for your car. Toyota’s current maintenance guidance points owners to a personalized schedule and the vehicle’s manual.

12 items to check against your maintenance schedule
1. Engine oil and oil filter
Check whether an oil-and-filter service is due under your vehicle’s schedule. The correct interval and oil specification depend on the car and its use; Toyota’s historical 75,000-mile example includes this service, but that does not make it universal.
2. Tires
Check tire pressure, tread, damage, and uneven or excessive wear. Rotate tires when your manufacturer’s schedule calls for it. Replace a tire based on its condition and applicable guidance, not simply because the odometer reads 75,000 miles. Toyota’s general owner guidance includes checking pressure and looking for damage and excessive wear.
3. Brakes: pads, rotors, drums, lines, and hoses
Inspect brake operation and wear, including the pads or shoes, rotors or drums, lines, and hoses. Toyota’s historical schedule lists brake-system inspections. It does not say to replace every brake component at 75,000 miles; replacement depends on measured wear, damage, symptoms, and the vehicle’s specifications.

4. Drive or serpentine belt
Inspect the belt for condition and check the maintenance schedule for your engine’s service interval. Toyota’s older schedule calls for a drive-belt inspection, not automatic replacement at this mileage. A belt’s role and design vary by vehicle.
5. Timing belt or timing chain
Find out whether your engine uses a timing belt or chain, then follow the interval and instructions for that specific engine. Toyota notes that these are different designs; 75,000 miles is not a blanket replacement point for all timing systems.
6. Transmission fluid
Review the vehicle’s maintenance schedule and service records before arranging a fluid service. The Toyota schedule example lists transmission-fluid replacement as an additional item under special operating conditions. Requirements vary, so do not assume that every transmission needs a fluid change at 75,000 miles.

8. Steering and suspension joints and linkages
Have the steering and suspension checked for looseness, damage, or leakage. Toyota’s historical schedule includes inspections of ball joints and steering linkages. An inspection is not, by itself, a recommendation to replace those parts.

12. Wiper blades and spark plugs
Check wipers for cracks, wear, streaking, or skipping, and consult the spark-plug interval in your vehicle’s schedule. Toyota discusses both in its general maintenance guidance, but neither is a universal 75,000-mile replacement item.

How to find what is actually due
- Identify the exact vehicle. Use the make, model year, engine, and, when relevant, drivetrain to find the matching maintenance schedule. A schedule for another year or engine may not apply.
- Check the owner’s manual or manufacturer schedule. Look for the 75,000-mile service and any time-based interval that may also apply. Toyota directs owners to its personalized schedule, manual, or dealer; other manufacturers may provide their own equivalent resources.
- Account for how the car is used. Review the schedule’s special or severe operating-condition guidance. Toyota’s example makes some transmission and differential fluid work conditional on special operating conditions, while its general guidance notes that dusty use can affect air-filter inspection timing.
- Compare the schedule with service records. Confirm whether a listed service has already been completed and when. Do not repeat work solely because the odometer reached a milestone.
- Ask for findings before approving condition-based repairs. If an inspection identifies wear or damage, ask the shop to explain what was found and which vehicle specification or schedule applies. Toyota recommends using its maintenance resources or a dealer; a qualified repair shop can also help interpret and inspect items for your vehicle.
What the 75,000-mile example does—and does not—tell you
Toyota’s 1998 scheduled-maintenance supplement labels a service interval “75,000 Miles or 60 Months.” At that point, it lists oil and filter replacement and tire rotation, along with inspections that include drive belts, ball joints and dust covers, exhaust pipes and mountings, brake linings, discs, drums, lines and hoses, drive-shaft boots, steering linkages, and transmission and differential oil. Additional maintenance under special operating conditions includes air-filter inspection and transmission or differential-fluid replacement.
That document is useful because it shows why “check or replace” should not be treated as one instruction. It is an old schedule for a particular vehicle application, not evidence that the same tasks—or intervals—apply to a current Toyota or another make. Toyota’s 2025 GR Corolla owner’s manual also includes general maintenance checks such as brakes, tires, leaks, steering, lights, and wipers, but that does not establish a universal 75,000-mile replacement list.
Dealer or independent repair shop?
Either can be a practical place to get scheduled service or an inspection. Compare whether the provider can access the maintenance schedule and parts information for your exact vehicle, inspect and document the relevant items, and record completed service in a way you can retain. Toyota offers dealer service and vehicle maintenance-history options; the cited guidance does not establish a universal price advantage, performance difference, or warranty advantage for either type of shop.
