The right Android dialer depends on what you want to improve: caller ID and spam control, a simpler interface, privacy, cross-app communication, or tools such as voicemail and call recording. Phone by Google is a sensible starting point for many phones; the other options below target different needs. This is a selection guide, not a hands-on ranking: check each app’s current availability, compatibility, permissions, and features for your country and device before switching.
Start with the dialer already on your phone
Phone by Google
Phone by Google combines everyday calling with caller ID, spam warnings and blocking, and voicemail features. Google says it is available on most Android devices running Android 9.0 or later. Automatic Call Screen is limited to the US and English, and features vary; screening may not identify every spam or robocall. It is a practical first choice if you want core call tools without adopting a more specialized workflow.
Samsung Phone
Galaxy owners can also consider the built-in Samsung Phone app before installing another dialer. Its current features and compatibility depend on the device and software version, and are not established here, so check Samsung’s documentation for your specific phone rather than assuming a feature is available.
For caller ID and spam protection
Truecaller
Truecaller is aimed at people who want caller identification and spam controls. Its ability to block calls can depend on the phone’s configuration: Truecaller says some users need to make it their default dialer for blocking to work. Review the requested permissions and the app’s current data disclosures before granting access or changing defaults.

Hiya
Hiya promotes caller ID and spam and scam protection. A separate Hiya AI Phone listing describes screening, transcription, and call summaries, with a subscription required for all features. These are developer-described offerings; check which app is available in your region and what its current plan includes.
Eyecon
Eyecon emphasizes visual caller ID, full-screen contact photos, reverse lookup, and spam blocking. Its listing includes ads and in-app purchases. Treat caller-identification capabilities as the developer’s claims, not a guarantee that every unknown caller will be identified.

CallApp
CallApp promotes caller ID, spam blocking, SMS, and call-recording features. Its Play Store safety disclosure indicates that it may share device IDs and collect personal information and other data. Check the current disclosure and permissions, and confirm that any advertised recording feature works with your phone before relying on it.
For privacy, customization, or a different contact workflow
Fossify Phone
Fossify Phone presents itself as an open-source, privacy-oriented dialer with customization options. Its Play Store data-safety section says the developer collects or shares no data. That is the developer’s disclosure, not an independent audit; review the listing and permissions yourself.

Right Dialer
Right Dialer highlights themes and other customization, speed dial, call blocking, messenger integration, and dual-SIM support. It may suit someone who wants more control over the dialer’s appearance or who uses two SIMs. Confirm that its listed functions work on your device and Android version.
drupe
drupe brings contacts, calls, SMS, and selected messaging apps into one interface, with caller ID, blocking, and follow-up reminders among its listed features. Its store disclosure says it may collect personal information and contacts. This cross-app approach can be convenient, but it also makes it especially important to check permissions and data disclosures.

For offline blocking or call recording
ACR Phone
ACR Phone advertises an offline blocklist that users build, visual voicemail, and call recording on supported devices. Its listing says the app must be set as the default phone app to use its features. Recording is not guaranteed across devices: verify compatibility with your exact model and Android version, and check the law where you are before recording a call.

Google Play’s dialer collection includes additional names such as True Phone, Easy Phone, N Dial, and Phone: Dialer & iCall Screen. Their current features, privacy practices, and availability have not been individually verified here, so treat them as search candidates rather than vetted picks.

Check these details before changing your default dialer
- Confirm compatibility. Check your Android version, phone model, carrier, and country against the app’s current store listing. Dialers rely on operating-system and phone integration, so a feature advertised generally may not work on every setup.
- Decide what kind of blocking you need. Caller identification and network-based spam warnings are different from a blocklist you create yourself. Check how the app identifies callers and whether blocking requires it to be the default phone app.
- Check regional and language limits. For example, Phone by Google’s automatic screening is restricted to the US and English. Do not assume screening or transcription is available in your location.
- Review permissions and data disclosures. Compare the Play Store safety section with the permissions the app requests. These disclosures come from developers and are not independent privacy audits.
- Verify voicemail and recording on your phone. Support can vary by device, carrier, Android version, and app. A listing’s recording or voicemail feature is not proof that it will work on your setup.
- Set a new default only when needed. Some features may require default-phone status. If you switch, test incoming calls, outgoing calls, blocking, voicemail, and any essential call-screening feature before relying on the new app.
