Many of the examples below are Chromebook Plus features; Google said Gemini chat was coming to all Chromebooks. Actual access can depend on the device, account, language, region, and rollout.
1. Draft and revise writing
Google’s Help me write can generate text from a prompt or revise existing text—for example, changing its tone or shortening it. Google says it can appear in text fields, including website forms, so it is intended to help beyond Google’s own apps. This is a capability described by Google, not an independently tested result. Google’s May 2024 Chromebook Plus announcement describes the feature.
2. Summarize and ask questions about reading material
Help me read can summarize webpages, articles, and PDFs, and Google describes asking follow-up questions about the material. In a later Chromebook Plus announcement, Google also described a simplify control for making complex text easier to understand. These tools may help readers get oriented or work through difficult passages, but the announcements do not establish that every Chromebook has them. See Google’s Chromebook Plus announcement and its June 2025 feature overview.
3. Edit photos with generative tools
Google announced Magic Editor in Google Photos for Chromebook Plus. Its examples include selecting or moving objects and adjusting lighting or backgrounds. These are generative photo-editing capabilities, not a promise that every Chromebook model has the same editing tools. The feature was included in Google’s May 2024 Chromebook Plus announcement.

- Intel Celeron N4120: 4 Cores & Threads, 1.1GHz Base Clock, Up to 2.6GHz Boost Clock, 4MB Cache, Intel UHD Graphics 600. The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
4. Make wallpapers and video-call backgrounds
Google described generative AI tools for creating wallpapers and backgrounds for video calls on Chromebook Plus. The call backgrounds are intended to work across video-conferencing apps, so the use is not limited to a single meeting service. Availability still depends on the device and feature rollout. Google introduced these tools in its Chromebook Plus announcement.
5. Chat with Gemini for planning and brainstorming
Google described opening Gemini from the Chromebook shelf for tasks such as planning, learning, and brainstorming. Its October 2024 update said Gemini would be available on all Chromebooks. That is a rollout claim in the announcement, not confirmation that every user can access it now: check availability for your device and location. The relevant announcements are Google’s May 2024 Chromebook Plus post and its October 2024 Chromebook update.

6. Translate audio with captions
Google’s Chromebook Plus overview includes Live Translate and captioning for audio playing on the Chromebook. That can make spoken content easier to follow when the available translation and caption languages meet the user’s needs. Google’s overview does not mean every language is supported on every device or in every region; check current availability for your setup. See the June 2025 Chromebook Plus overview.
7. Transcribe and summarize recordings
Google describes the Recorder app as transcribing recordings and generating summaries. This can turn recorded speech into text that is easier to review, with a summary to help locate the main points. The announcement does not establish Recorder support on every Chromebook, so treat it as a device-dependent feature rather than a universal ChromeOS tool. Google lists it in its Chromebook Plus feature overview.

8. Use Quick Insert to reach writing help and contextual tools
Quick Insert is a shortcut for reaching Help me write and other useful items, including recent URLs, emojis, GIFs, and Drive search. Google said users could invoke it with a keyboard shortcut when the dedicated Quick Insert key debuted, so that key was not described as a requirement. The available actions depend on the Chromebook and software rollout. See Google’s October 2024 update and June 2025 overview.
9. Improve video calls
Google describes Chromebook Plus AI features for video calls, including lighting adjustments, noise cancellation, and background blur. These tools can improve the call’s image or sound without implying that every Chromebook model supports them. Google’s announcement presents them as Chromebook Plus capabilities; check the exact model and current feature availability. Google’s Chromebook Plus announcement provides the category-level description.

10. Use NotebookLM for research and writing
In its June 2025 announcement of the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14, Google said NotebookLM could be opened directly from the shelf. This gives users a direct route to Google’s research and writing assistant from that Chromebook environment. The announcement concerns a particular product and does not establish universal availability across Chromebook models. Read Google’s June 2025 feature overview.

- Availability: Has it rolled out for your device and region?

- Account or plan: Does access require a Google account or subscription? The announcements’ historical AI-plan promotions do not establish current offers or eligibility.
Keep Chrome browser features distinct from Chromebook features. Google’s September 2025 announcement about Gemini in Chrome described an initial rollout for Mac and Windows desktop users in the United States with English settings; that announcement alone does not establish Chromebook support.
Google also reported that the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 has an NPU capable of up to 50 TOPS. That is a manufacturer-reported specification for that model in its June 2025 announcement, not a general Chromebook figure or an independent performance benchmark. Google’s announcements describe product capabilities, but they do not provide independently measured statistics on how often people use these tools.
