The humanoid robots worth watching in 2025 were not all at the same stage: some were being tested for factory work, while others were research platforms or highly visible demonstrations. The clearest evidence of progress was not a dramatic video, but a robot beginning work at a customer site—and even that did not prove broad, reliable production use.
This is an editorial watchlist, not a measured league table. The available evidence supports a close look at four named machines and a broader list of contenders, but does not establish comparable 2025 prices, deployments, or performance for all ten.
How to judge a humanoid robot in 2025
A robot can walk convincingly and still be a long way from useful, repeatable work. Compare candidates by the job they target and the evidence behind their capabilities:
- Task fit: Is it designed for material handling, research, or another specific job?
- Autonomy: Does it perform the task independently, or does a person remotely control or assist it?
- Manipulation and mobility: Can it handle the objects and move through the environment its intended work requires?
- Deployment maturity: Is it in a customer-site trial, a limited deployment, or only a demonstration?
- Reliability and safety: Is there evidence of dependable operation beyond a staged clip?
- Access: Is it actually available to the relevant buyer, and at what price?
Visibility and viral appeal can make a robot worth following, but they do not establish readiness for a factory floor.

10 humanoid robots to watch
The list below mixes robots with different intended uses and levels of evidence. The order is not a claim that one machine outperforms another.
1. Boston Dynamics Atlas
Boston Dynamics’ March 18, 2025 announcement described Atlas as an early adopter of NVIDIA Isaac GR00T and Jetson Thor. The company said its developers and research partners were using Isaac Lab to develop dexterity and locomotion policies in physically accurate virtual environments. The announcement frames simulation as part of the route toward real-world capability; it is not proof that Atlas had already completed factory work. Boston Dynamics’ announcement quotes its chief technology officer Aaron Saunders: “Robots are the bridge between simulation and the real world.”

Boston Dynamics’ current product page describes an enterprise material-handling direction and says Atlas is taking first steps into a Hyundai customer facility for field testing, with select early adopters planned. It also lists 56 degrees of freedom, a height of 1.9 m, a weight of 90 kg, and four-hour battery life. These are current-page specifications and should not be read as established 2025 specifications. The page describes Atlas as an enterprise prospect, not a general consumer product. See the current Atlas product page.
2. Agility Robotics Digit
The strongest 2025 factory signal in the available reporting was Agility Robotics’ Digit beginning deployment at a U.S. plant operated by Schaeffler. The Associated Press reported the effort on May 1, 2025. It is evidence of an early customer-site deployment, not proof that Digit was already operating broadly or at production scale. Read the AP report.

3. Unitree G1
The G1 drew attention for its relatively low reported price, but the context matters. In May 2025, AP reported that Unitree marketed it for $16,000. At the conference demonstration AP observed, an employee nearby remotely controlled the walking robot. The report said Unitree’s main customers outside China were academic researchers and some social-media influencers, and cautioned that the G1 was not about to move totes or work in a factory. That $16,000 figure is a historical, reported marketing price—not a verified current price or proof of industrial readiness. AP’s 2025 report provides the context.
4. Tesla Optimus
Optimus was a prominent contender, but the 2025 reporting here provides a specific caution rather than a deployment assessment: AP reported that Tesla CEO Elon Musk warned investors that restrictions on rare-earth magnet shipments would delay development. That is a report about a supply-chain risk raised in 2025, not an update on the robot’s present status. See AP’s report.

5–10. Other contenders to follow
A later TechRepublic roundup, published May 8, 2026, identifies six more names in the broader field: Apptronik Apollo, Sanctuary AI Phoenix, 1X NEO, Fourier’s GR-series, AgiBot, and UBTech Walker S. It compares factors such as deployment, technical capability, commercial traction, access, visibility, and the gap between hype and reality. Because it was published in 2026, it can help identify later contenders but cannot establish their 2025 status. The evidence available for this article does not support comparable 2025 specifications, pricing, deployments, or production-readiness claims for these six. Read TechRepublic’s 2026 roundup.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Were humanoid robots ready for factory work in 2025?
The evidence pointed to cautious experimentation, not a general-purpose workforce ready to take over factory jobs. Digit’s early deployment at Schaeffler was a meaningful customer-site step. By contrast, AP’s G1 demonstration was remotely controlled and did not show the robot moving factory totes. Atlas’s 2025 announcement focused on simulation and development, while its current product page describes field testing and early-adopter plans.

These examples show why a customer trial, a development announcement, and a trade-show demonstration should not be treated as equivalent evidence. A trial is more concrete than a polished clip, but it does not by itself establish sustained uptime, safe operation across shifts, or economic value at scale.
What the 2025 evidence does—and does not—show
Industrial automation was growing, but a broader robotics statistic should not be mistaken for a humanoid-robot result. AP reported that the International Federation of Robotics counted 9.6% more robots installed in U.S. automaker plants than a year earlier. That figure concerns industrial robots in automaker plants generally; it does not measure humanoid installations. AP’s coverage supplies the statistic and attribution.
For the named humanoids, the strongest contemporaneous evidence here is limited: an early Digit deployment effort, a remotely controlled G1 demonstration and reported marketing price, and development work announced for Atlas. The same evidence does not support a like-for-like ranking across ten robots, or a claim that every contender was available to buy in 2025.
Can you buy one of these humanoids?
The available evidence does not establish current buying availability across this field. AP’s May 2025 report described the G1 as marketed for $16,000 and discussed its research and influencer customers outside China; Boston Dynamics presents Atlas through enterprise discussions and early-adopter plans. Neither example makes these robots ordinary consumer purchases, and a hobby robot or kit is not an equivalent substitute for an industrial humanoid.
