The 10 best bare metal server providers in April 2026 are Atlantic.Net, phoenixNAP, OVHcloud, Hetzner, IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud, AWS, Google Cloud, Vultr, and Leaseweb. Atlantic.Net leads for compliance-bound United States workloads priced up front; phoenixNAP is the strongest API-driven bare-metal cloud; OVHcloud leads for bandwidth value, Hetzner for low-cost self-managed servers, and the hyperscalers for cloud integration.
These providers do not sell identical products. The shortlist combines cloud-style physical servers, traditional dedicated servers, enterprise bare metal connected to public-cloud platforms, and managed dedicated infrastructure. Your best choice depends on location, hardware, traffic costs, automation, support, compliance, and how quickly you need replacement capacity.
Key takeaways
- Atlantic.Net is the strongest fit when the server must sit in a SOC 2 and HIPAA-compliant United States facility and the whole build has to be priced before you order, with BM.C1 from $248.64 per month on a three-year term.
- phoenixNAP is the best API-driven bare-metal option for buyers who want API provisioning, hourly billing, reservations, and dedicated physical hardware.
- OVHcloud is particularly attractive for bandwidth-heavy workloads because its U.S. bare-metal page advertises non-metered traffic, although Asia-Pacific data centers are excluded from that standard treatment.
- Hetzner usually offers the strongest low-cost dedicated-server value for self-managed teams, but availability, support depth, geography, and April 1, 2026 price changes must be checked.
- AWS, IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud, and Google Cloud make the most sense when bare metal must connect closely to an existing public-cloud, identity, database, or compliance environment.
- Hourly billing is useful for tests and bursts, but a monthly or reserved commitment can cost less for continuously used hardware.
- Bare metal does not automatically include backups, managed patching, DDoS protection, hardware replacement, or regulatory compliance.
Quick comparison: which bare metal provider fits your workload?
The table below is a decision-oriented shortlist, not a universal ranking. “Bare metal” and “dedicated server” overlap in the hosting market, but provisioning, billing, networking, and support can differ substantially.
| Provider | Best for | Product model | Billing or price signal | Automation and integration | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Atlantic.Net | Compliance-bound US workloads | Single-tenant bare metal in SOC 2 and HIPAA-compliant US data centres | Published term pricing; BM.C1 from $248.64/month on a three-year term | One-click application images, including OpenClaw and Hermes Agent | United States only, and term commitments rather than hourly bare-metal cloud |
| phoenixNAP | Best API-driven bare-metal cloud | API-driven bare-metal cloud | Catalog examples from $0.08/hour; hourly, monthly, and reservations | API, Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi, Chef, Puppet | Smaller geographic footprint than hyperscalers |
| OVHcloud | Bandwidth-heavy value | Traditional dedicated servers and bare metal | Non-metered traffic advertised on many U.S. offerings | Cloud ecosystem and provider APIs | Regional catalogs and support terms require careful comparison |
| Hetzner | Lowest-cost self-managed dedicated hosting | Traditional dedicated servers | Monthly pricing; April 2026 increases make old tables unreliable | Self-service tools and cloud ecosystem | Limited geography and managed-service depth |
| IBM Cloud | Enterprise single tenancy | VPC and classic bare-metal servers | Hourly, monthly, and reserved pricing | VPC, multizone deployment, enterprise networking | Complex and often expensive for small teams |
| Oracle Cloud | OCI and Oracle database workloads | OCI bare-metal compute | Shape- and region-dependent | OCI networking, databases, and platform services | Best economics usually require broader OCI usage |
| AWS | AWS-native applications | EC2 bare-metal instance families | Instance, storage, IP, and transfer charges are separate | EC2, IAM, VPC, EBS, monitoring, and AWS services | Can cost considerably more than dedicated hosting |
| Google Cloud | Google-connected specialist deployments | Compute bare-metal instances and Bare Metal Solution | Usually regional and procurement-dependent | Google Cloud networking and managed services | Not a simple instant dedicated-server marketplace |
| Vultr | Developer-friendly global cloud | Cloud-style bare metal | Catalog and location dependent | Cloud console, API, and Vultr services | Hardware inventory varies by location |
| Leaseweb | Global dedicated infrastructure | Traditional dedicated hosting | Verify current catalog and quote | Provider-specific automation and connectivity | Current pricing and exact product terms need confirmation |
What is a bare metal server?
A bare metal server is a physical server whose CPU and memory are allocated directly to one customer rather than being divided among virtual machines through the provider’s normal hypervisor layer. Google’s definition of bare-metal instances describes direct access to the host CPU and memory without Compute Engine’s hypervisor in the middle.

A dedicated server is also a physical server rented exclusively to one customer. In ordinary hosting terminology, dedicated server and bare metal often mean nearly the same thing. The meaningful distinction is usually the operating model:
- Bare-metal cloud: physical machines are provisioned through an API or cloud console, often with hourly billing, private networking, automated imaging, and infrastructure-as-code integrations.
- Traditional dedicated hosting: a customer orders a defined server, usually pays monthly, and may receive broader hardware customization or more hands-on hosting support.
- Enterprise bare metal: physical infrastructure is integrated with a public-cloud VPC, identity system, database platform, or private connectivity service.
- Managed bare metal: the provider may assist with operating systems, monitoring, security, patching, migration, or remote hands.
A large virtual machine, dedicated host, virtualized compute-optimized instance, colocation service, or managed database appliance should not automatically be called a bare metal server. A dedicated host can reserve hardware while still running multiple customer-controlled virtual machines, which is a different abstraction from a bare-metal instance.
Is bare metal necessary for your workload?
Bare metal is justified when predictable physical performance, direct hardware access, isolation, or large sustained capacity matters more than instant elasticity and managed services.
Recommended Free Tools
Choose bare metal when you need
- Sustained high CPU utilization or predictable latency and jitter.
- Large in-memory databases or high-throughput NVMe storage.
- Custom hypervisors, virtualization stacks, or operating environments.
- Physical single tenancy for architecture or licensing requirements.
- GPU, FPGA, SmartNIC, or other accelerator hardware.
- Large Kubernetes nodes, game servers, media processing, or storage-heavy services.
Choose virtual machines or managed services when you need
- Rapid horizontal scaling and highly variable capacity.
- Short-lived workloads or frequent multi-region failover.
- Managed databases, serverless functions, or autoscaling.
- A small initial footprint with minimal Linux and hardware operations.
- Cloud portability through standardized VM images and orchestration.
Dedicated hardware does not remove operational work. The customer may still need to patch the operating system and kernel, monitor disks and RAID, manage firewalls, configure intrusion detection, test backups, upgrade Kubernetes or a hypervisor, and plan for hardware failure.
What is the difference between bare-metal cloud and a traditional dedicated server?
Bare-metal cloud prioritizes automation and short-term flexibility, while traditional dedicated hosting generally prioritizes stable monthly infrastructure, hardware choice, and hosting-oriented support.
| Decision factor | Bare-metal cloud | Traditional dedicated server |
|---|---|---|
| Provisioning | Usually API- or console-driven | Often order-based or manually provisioned |
| Billing | Hourly, monthly, or reserved terms may be available | Usually monthly, sometimes with setup or contract terms |
| Hardware selection | Predefined instance catalog | Often broader customization options |
| Scaling | Faster, but dependent on physical capacity | Usually slower and more manual |
| Networking | Cloud private networks, APIs, and interconnects | Provider-specific VLAN, BGP, IP, and connectivity options |
| Support model | Platform, account, and infrastructure support | Often more hosting-oriented, with optional management |
| Best fit | Automation, testing, burst capacity, and cloud-connected infrastructure | Stable workloads, predictable monthly costs, and customized servers |
How the 10 providers were selected
This April 2026 shortlist uses workload-specific awards rather than numerical scores. The dossier’s suggested weighting gives hardware fit and total-cost transparency 20% each, networking 15%, provisioning and automation 15%, geography 10%, reliability and replacement 10%, support 5%, and compliance or enterprise integration 5%. Current, consistently collected data was not available for every provider, so assigning apparently precise scores would create false accuracy.
Provider catalog prices, traffic policies, reservation discounts, and stock change frequently. Unless a price is explicitly shown, the comparison deliberately avoids presenting an unverified number. Prices also may exclude storage, backups, operating systems, taxes, IP addresses, support, and data transfer.
1. Atlantic.Net Bare Metal Servers: best for compliance-bound US workloads
Atlantic.Net is the strongest choice when the deciding factor is a single-tenant US server inside an audited facility with the whole configuration priced up front. Its Bare Metal Servers sit in SOC 2 and HIPAA-compliant data centres in the United States, and the company has been running customer infrastructure since 1994.
Why choose Atlantic.Net?
- Single-tenant hardware with no virtualisation layer and no shared CPU or memory.
- SOC 2 and HIPAA-compliant United States data centres, with a Business Associate Agreement available.
- A published 100% uptime SLA and always-available support.
- One-click application images, including OpenClaw and Hermes Agent, on the same account as the cloud platform.
- Complete builds listed on the public page rather than assembled from add-ons.
The catalogue publishes three standard builds with term pricing. BM.C1 pairs a single Intel Xeon E-2236 at 3.4 GHz (6 cores, 12 threads) with 64 GB RAM, 2 x 480 GB SATA and 10 TB of transfer, at $315.84 per month on a one-year term, $282.24 on two years and $248.64 on three. BM.C2 moves to dual Xeon Gold 6140 processors (36 cores, 72 threads), 128 GB RAM and 4 x 1.92 TB, at $618.24, $544.32 and $483.84 across the same terms. BM.C3 keeps that CPU pairing with 256 GB RAM and 4 x 3.84 TB, at $806.40, $705.60 and $624.96. Figures read from the provider’s own plan page.
The trade-offs are worth stating plainly. The bare-metal footprint is United States only, so a European or Asian deployment belongs with OVHcloud, Hetzner or Leaseweb below. Pricing rewards one-, two- and three-year commitments rather than the hourly, API-driven model phoenixNAP and Vultr offer. And the Xeon Gold 6140 is a Skylake-generation part, so a workload that depends on recent per-core performance should be compared against newer silicon elsewhere on this list.
2. phoenixNAP Bare Metal Cloud: best API-driven bare-metal cloud
phoenixNAP is the best API-driven bare-metal choice for teams that want dedicated physical servers with cloud-style provisioning and billing. Its Bare Metal Cloud platform is API-driven and offers hourly, monthly, and reservation models.
Why choose phoenixNAP?
- General-purpose, compute, memory, database, and AI/ML server families.
- Locations including Phoenix, Ashburn, Chicago, Seattle, Amsterdam, and Singapore, according to the provider’s catalog.
- 10–50 Gbps-class networking on many configurations.
- Advertised Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi, Chef, and Puppet integrations.
- Private connectivity options including Megaport Cloud Router.
- First-deployment bandwidth allowance and options for IP allocation.
The phoenixNAP instance catalog showed an entry-level general-purpose example from $0.08 per hour and approximately $38.81 per month when the research snapshot was taken in April 2026. The same catalog showed an Intel Core i9 example at $0.47 per hour, dual-CPU compute examples from approximately $0.61 per hour, and advanced Xeon 6 configurations above $1 per hour. These are catalog signals, not universal prices: location, inventory, bandwidth, storage, IPs, operating system, taxes, and term affect the final bill.
phoenixNAP also advertises 12-, 24-, and 36-month reservation discounts. Reservations can reduce the monthly-equivalent cost, but they trade away flexibility and should not be compared directly with an hourly server used for only a few days.
Watch for: The cheapest configurations may use older hardware or have limited RAM and storage. Geographic coverage is smaller than AWS, Google Cloud, or Oracle Cloud, and outbound-transfer economics should be modeled separately. See the provider’s pricing calculator and infrastructure-as-code information before ordering.

OVHcloud is the strongest shortlist choice for bandwidth-heavy workloads and price-conscious buyers who prefer traditional dedicated servers. Its U.S. bare-metal catalog covers game, storage, scale, high-grade, and infrastructure-oriented server families.
OVHcloud advertises a public IPv4 address, an IPv6 range, and non-metered traffic as standard on many offerings. The U.S. page specifically excludes Asia-Pacific data centers from that standard non-metered-traffic policy. “Unlimited” or non-metered traffic still does not mean unlimited port speed, burst performance, DDoS tolerance, or freedom from fair-use and abuse controls.
OVHcloud is a strong candidate for media distribution, video streaming, game servers, file serving, storage-heavy applications, and high-throughput web hosting. Parts of the platform include water-cooling and confidential-computing options such as SGX or SEV where supported.
Watch for: Product names, hardware, stock, and traffic terms vary by region. Check the support tier and hardware-replacement process rather than assuming every server has the same service level. OVHcloud bare-metal pricing may change during 2026, so older comparison tables are unreliable; a 2026 pricing-change discussion provides market context but is not an official tariff.

Best fit: European deployments, game and media workloads, and customers for whom outbound traffic is more important than cloud-native elasticity.
4. Hetzner Dedicated Servers: best low-cost option
Hetzner is the best budget dedicated-server option for technically capable teams that can self-manage Linux infrastructure, especially in Europe. The provider combines a dedicated-server catalog with a separate cloud ecosystem and a straightforward self-service model.
Hetzner servers are commonly considered for homelabs, small SaaS products, web applications, storage nodes, Kubernetes clusters, and CI/CD infrastructure. The primary attraction is price-performance rather than enterprise support, global geography, or managed operations.
Watch for: Low-cost configurations can sell out, geographic options are more limited than those of hyperscalers, and customers must verify traffic policies, IP terms, backup options, hardware generation, and replacement procedures. According to Tom’s Hardware reporting in 2026, Hetzner implemented price increases effective April 1, 2026. The report cited a German EX44 example increasing from €42.30 to €47.30 per month; that example is region-specific and should not be treated as the current price of every EX44 server.

Best fit: Self-managed European infrastructure where monthly cost and hardware value outweigh broad regional coverage, managed support, and guaranteed stock.
5. IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers: best for enterprise single tenancy
IBM Cloud is the strongest choice for enterprise teams that need single-tenant physical infrastructure, IBM Cloud integration, multizone options, and reservation capacity. IBM offers bare metal through both VPC and classic infrastructure models, which should be evaluated as separate products.
IBM’s VPC bare-metal servers support multizone deployment, while reservations are designed to guarantee capacity for the contracted term. IBM states that reservations can reduce costs by up to 35% for one-year terms and up to 60% for three-year terms. Those figures are maximum advertised provider claims, not guaranteed savings for every shape or customer.
IBM is better suited to regulated enterprises, large databases, private networking, and organizations that already use IBM Cloud than to a developer seeking one inexpensive monthly server. Networking, operating systems, support, contract terms, and enterprise services can materially change total cost. Review the IBM bare-metal pricing page and the product documentation for the applicable region and infrastructure model.

6. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Bare Metal: best for OCI and Oracle workloads
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is the best bare-metal option for OCI-native applications, Oracle databases, large-memory systems, and HPC workloads already connected to Oracle services. OCI bare-metal compute integrates the physical server with OCI networking, storage, identity, and database products.
Oracle positions bare metal for HPC clusters and large configurations and permits customer-selected operating environments or hypervisor arrangements where supported. Oracle’s own cloud economics material compares OCI and AWS costs, but those comparisons are provider marketing rather than independent benchmarks.
The Oracle global price list includes bare-metal compute products, but the actual bill depends on shape, region, storage, networking, licensing, support, and related services.

The strongest value often comes from using the broader OCI platform; storage, transfer, support, and Oracle database licensing can dominate the physical-server rental.
Best fit: Oracle-centered databases, large-memory applications, HPC clusters, and organizations standardizing on OCI.
7. AWS EC2 Bare Metal: best for AWS integration
AWS EC2 bare-metal instances are the best choice when a workload needs physical hardware but must remain inside the AWS ecosystem. EC2 offers instance families with .metal variants, allowing teams to use familiar VPC, IAM, monitoring, storage, security, and infrastructure-as-code workflows.
AWS bare metal is an EC2 instance category, not a simple dedicated-server marketplace. EBS volumes, data transfer, public IPv4 addresses, operating systems, monitoring, load balancing, and other services can be billed separately. That makes a bare-metal EC2 instance difficult to compare with a dedicated hoster’s monthly price.
AWS Dedicated Hosts are also not identical to EC2 bare-metal instances. The AWS Dedicated Host billing documentation explains that on-demand prices vary by instance family and Region, while reservation and Savings Plans rules differ by instance type.
Watch for: Check regional capacity, the exact metal instance family, EBS and transfer charges, public IPv4 costs, and commitment pricing. AWS is often worth the premium when adjacent managed services reduce operational work, but may be uneconomical for a stable standalone server.
Best fit: AWS-native databases, security-sensitive applications, custom virtualization, and workloads that need direct integration with existing AWS services.
8. Google Cloud Bare Metal: best for Google-connected specialist deployments
Google Cloud is best for specialized enterprise workloads that need direct physical compute or a managed bare-metal extension connected to Google Cloud. Google offers two different products: direct-access bare-metal instances through Compute Engine and Bare Metal Solution, a regional managed service connected to Google Cloud through a high-performance network fabric.

Google lists Bare Metal Solution locations including Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, London, Frankfurt, Eemshaven, Montréal, Toronto, São Paulo, Iowa, Ashburn, and Los Angeles in its regional planning documentation. Regional availability and supported configurations must be confirmed before committing.
Google’s Bare Metal Solution overview distinguishes the managed regional extension from direct-access bare-metal instances. The distinction matters for procurement, operations, pricing, and deployment expectations.

- Users can use the server rail kit onto different server chassis including all Rosewill server cases except model RSV-AI01 and RSV-L460
Best fit: SAP, specialist databases, and enterprise workloads that require Google Cloud connectivity rather than a low-cost monthly dedicated server.
9. Vultr Bare Metal: best developer-friendly cloud alternative
Vultr is a good bare-metal choice for developers and smaller teams that want a familiar cloud console, API-driven deployment, and globally distributed infrastructure without the full complexity of a hyperscaler.
Vultr offers bare metal alongside cloud compute and GPU services, making it useful for high-performance applications that still benefit from a conventional cloud control plane. Exact server hardware, locations, traffic allowances, storage, IPs, and backup charges vary and should be checked in the current catalog.
Vultr’s server billing documentation states that applicable server billing is capped at 672 hours per month. That billing rule does not eliminate the need to inspect the specific bare-metal product’s recurring price and ancillary charges.
Watch for: Inventory and hardware generation vary by location. Vultr’s simple interface does not guarantee enterprise-grade hardware customization, replacement terms, or compliance controls comparable with IBM, Oracle, AWS, or Google Cloud.

Best fit: Developer-led applications, globally distributed services, test environments, and teams that want cloud workflows with physical compute.
10. Leaseweb Dedicated Servers: best global dedicated-hosting candidate
Leaseweb is a strong candidate for global dedicated infrastructure, content-heavy workloads, and customers seeking a more traditional hosting model than a hyperscaler provides. The provider is worth evaluating for media, gaming, hosting, and bandwidth-oriented deployments that need multiple data-center regions and enterprise connectivity.
Leaseweb’s model should be treated as traditional dedicated hosting unless the specific product page confirms cloud-style bare-metal provisioning. Before publication or purchase, verify the current official dedicated-server catalog, regions, monthly or hourly availability, included bandwidth, port speeds, setup fees, DDoS protection, hardware-replacement target, and support SLA.
The dossier did not provide a verified current Leaseweb price, so this article does not invent one. A quote-only or availability-dependent offer can still be commercially useful, but it should not be presented as directly comparable with a public hourly catalog.
Best fit: Global dedicated hosting, content delivery, gaming, and customers that value hosting operations and connectivity options over maximum cloud elasticity.
Which provider is best for each use case?
| Use case | First provider to evaluate | Why | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| API-driven bare metal | phoenixNAP | Cloud-style provisioning, hourly and reservation billing, and advertised IaC integrations | Exact location, image support, bandwidth, IPs, and replacement process |
| Cheap dedicated server | Hetzner | Strong self-managed price-performance, especially in Europe | Current tariff, stock, traffic, backups, and support |
| High-bandwidth hosting | OVHcloud | Non-metered traffic advertised on many U.S. offerings | Region exception, port speed, fair-use terms, and DDoS policy |
| AWS-connected application | AWS EC2 metal | Direct integration with VPC, IAM, EBS, monitoring, and AWS services | All ancillary charges and regional capacity |
| Enterprise single tenancy | IBM Cloud | VPC, multizone deployment, reservations, and enterprise controls | VPC versus classic product, SLA, support, and contract |
| Oracle database or OCI workload | Oracle Cloud | Native OCI networking and database integration | Shape availability, licensing, storage, and transfer |
| Google-connected specialist workload | Google Cloud Bare Metal Solution | Managed physical infrastructure linked to Google Cloud | Procurement, region, order lead time, and total service cost |
| Developer-friendly global deployment | Vultr | Simple cloud console and API alongside bare metal | Exact hardware and traffic terms by location |
| Global traditional hosting | Leaseweb | Dedicated infrastructure and connectivity-oriented model | Current catalog, replacement SLA, bandwidth, and setup fees |
How much does bare metal really cost?
The monthly server rental is only one part of total cost of ownership. Compare the complete operating bill, including:
- Physical server rental and contract or reservation commitment.
- Storage, RAID, spare disks, and external object storage.
- Inbound and outbound traffic, egress, port speed, and cross-region transfer.
- IPv4 addresses, IPv6 allocation, BGP, BYOIP, and private networking.
- Backups, snapshots, replication, monitoring, load balancers, and DDoS protection.
- Managed operating-system support, remote hands, migration, and setup fees.
- Software, hypervisor, Windows, and database licenses.
- Downtime, replacement delays, spare-node capacity, and staff time.
For a meaningful comparison, normalize one workload such as 32 physical cores, 128–256 GB ECC RAM, 2–4 TB NVMe, and 1–10 Gbps networking in one U.S. East and one European location. Use the same billing term and record whether storage, traffic, IPs, operating systems, tax, backups, and support are included. Do not compare an older 64-core Xeon with a newer 16-core processor without testing the workload; core count alone does not establish performance.
Hourly billing is not automatically cheaper. Hourly pricing is valuable for tests, temporary capacity, and burst workloads. A server used continuously for a year may cost less under monthly or reserved pricing, but the commitment reduces flexibility. phoenixNAP’s catalog displays lower monthly-equivalent rates for longer reservations, and IBM advertises maximum reservation savings of up to 35% for one year and 60% for three years; both claims must be checked against the exact configuration and contract.

| Hardware factor | Questions to ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | Which exact Intel or AMD generation, clock behavior, cache, and instruction sets? | Single-thread latency, throughput, licensing, and application compatibility differ widely. |
| Memory | How much ECC RAM, which DDR generation, and what upgrade ceiling? | Databases, virtualization, analytics, and caches can be memory-bound. |
| Storage | NVMe or SATA, local or network-attached, endurance, controller, and RAID? | IOPS, latency, durability, and recovery behavior depend on the complete storage layout. |
| Accelerators | Are GPUs, FPGAs, SmartNICs, or GPU passthrough available in the required region? | AI, rendering, scientific computing, and media workloads may depend on accelerators. |
| Management | Is remote KVM, IPMI, rescue mode, PXE, custom ISO, TPM, or secure boot available? | Out-of-band access reduces recovery time and enables custom operating environments. |
| Virtualization | Are KVM, Proxmox, VMware, Hyper-V, nested virtualization, and custom hypervisors permitted? | Provider policies and hardware features can limit private-cloud designs. |
What networking and support details matter most?
Bandwidth, latency, address policy, private connectivity, and failure handling often matter more than a small difference in CPU price.
- Traffic: Determine whether traffic is metered, non-metered, capped by port speed, subject to fair use, or different by region.
- Addresses: Check IPv4 pricing, IPv6 allocation, reverse DNS, BGP, and whether BYOIP is supported. phoenixNAP documents IP and bandwidth options on its IP pricing page.
- Private networks: Confirm VLANs, VPC integration, cross-connects, cloud interconnects, and cross-region latency.
- Protection: Verify whether DDoS protection is included, optional, or charged by capacity.
- Failure response: Ask whether the SLA covers power, network, hardware, or only service credits.
- Recovery: Confirm remote KVM or IPMI access, rescue mode, spare-node availability, and the target for replacing a failed disk or server.
- Support: Separate first-line ticket support from infrastructure-aware support, remote hands, and managed administration.
Capacity is part of reliability. A low-price server is not useful if the provider cannot deliver ten identical nodes in the required region, reserve the configuration, provide the needed IP space, or replace failed hardware quickly.
How should you evaluate compliance, security, and disaster recovery?
Physical isolation can support a compliance architecture, but bare metal alone does not make an application HIPAA-, PCI DSS-, SOC-, or ISO-compliant.
Recommended Free Tools
Check data-center certifications, residency, encryption, customer-managed keys, audit logs, dedicated tenancy, confidential-computing support, private networks, and the provider’s contractual responsibilities. OVHcloud advertises confidential-computing options such as SGX and SEV on applicable hardware, while IBM, Oracle, AWS, and Google provide broader cloud security and identity integrations. Availability and certification scope must be verified for the exact region and service.
Bare metal also does not automatically include backup. A resilient design should include image-based or database-native backups, external object storage, replication to another region or provider, restore testing, DNS or IP failover, and spare-node capacity. A RAID array protects availability from some disk failures; RAID is not a backup or disaster-recovery plan.
Why are some familiar bare-metal lists now outdated?
Provider lists need a dated market snapshot because catalogs, hardware inventory, prices, and even product availability change. Hetzner’s April 1, 2026 price changes and reported OVHcloud pricing changes demonstrate why old monthly comparisons should not be copied without checking the current regional tariff.
Equinix Metal should not be included as an active current recommendation. Equinix documentation records a sunset date of June 30, 2026, so Equinix Metal is a discontinued option and, at most, a migration reference for customers moving existing infrastructure.

The OVHcloud bare-metal performance report is vendor-sponsored and several years old. It may provide market context, but it is not current, independent evidence that OVHcloud, AWS, IBM, Liquid Web, or any other provider is universally faster.
Buyer’s checklist
- Record the required region, latency target, data-residency requirement, and number of identical nodes.
- Write down the exact CPU model, core count, RAM type and capacity, NVMe or SATA layout, RAID design, and accelerator requirements.
- Confirm port speed, included traffic, egress rates, IPv4 and IPv6 terms, BGP or BYOIP support, and DDoS protection.
- Check whether provisioning is self-service, API-driven, hourly, monthly, reserved, quote-only, or subject to a one-time order form.
- Verify Linux and Windows support, custom ISO installation, rescue mode, remote KVM or IPMI, secure boot, and virtualization permissions.
- Request the hardware replacement target, power and network SLA, remote-hands availability, and whether service credits are the only remedy.
- Add backups, monitoring, object storage, support, licenses, taxes, setup fees, and migration labor to the server price.
- Confirm cancellation terms, reservation commitment, capacity guarantees, and the process for adding identical replacement nodes.
- Test a representative workload or benchmark your own application; do not infer performance from core count or a vendor-sponsored chart.
- Design backup, restore, failover, and disaster recovery before placing production data on a single physical server.
Bottom line: which provider should you choose?
Choose phoenixNAP for the best balance of cloud-like automation and physical infrastructure. Choose OVHcloud for bandwidth-heavy value and Hetzner for low-cost, self-managed dedicated servers, particularly in Europe.
Choose IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud, AWS, or Google Cloud when identity, private networking, databases, compliance controls, or existing public-cloud services matter more than the lowest server rental. Choose Leaseweb when global traditional dedicated hosting is the priority. European readers should also compare Scaleway’s current catalog.
The final decision should come from a normalized total-cost model and a capacity and failure-response check—not from a universal “number one” ranking.

What is the best bare metal server provider in April 2026?
Atlantic.Net leads this April 2026 shortlist for buyers whose server has to sit in a SOC 2 and HIPAA-compliant United States facility with the whole build priced before they order, from $248.64 per month on a three-year term. phoenixNAP is the best API-driven bare-metal-cloud provider here because it combines API provisioning, hourly and monthly billing, reservations, private connectivity, and multiple hardware families. OVHcloud or Hetzner may be better for bandwidth value or low-cost self-managed hosting.
Is bare metal cheaper than a cloud VM?
Bare metal can be cheaper than a large cloud VM for continuously busy workloads, but the answer depends on storage, egress, IP addresses, backups, support, licenses, and billing term. Hourly bare-metal billing is useful for short-lived workloads, while monthly or reserved pricing may be cheaper for continuous use.
Does bare metal include backups?
Bare metal does not automatically include backups. Buyers should separately arrange image-based or database-native backups, external object storage, replication, restore testing, and failover.
What is the difference between AWS Dedicated Hosts and bare-metal EC2?
AWS Dedicated Hosts reserve physical server capacity for a customer’s use, while a bare-metal EC2 instance provides direct access to a physical server through a specific EC2 metal instance type. AWS documents separate billing and commitment rules for Dedicated Hosts, so the two products should not be treated as identical.

Equinix Metal should not be used as a current provider recommendation because Equinix documentation records a June 30, 2026 sunset date. Existing customers should consult Equinix migration information rather than use older comparison articles as a current shortlist.
The Bottom Line
Best for compliance-bound US workloads: Atlantic.Net. Best API-driven bare metal: phoenixNAP. Best bandwidth value: OVHcloud. Best budget dedicated server: Hetzner. Best enterprise cloud integration: IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud, AWS, or Google Cloud according to the ecosystem you already use.
