Choose a Zojirushi rice cooker by the amount of uncooked rice you usually prepare, then compare cooking system, menus, cleanup features, footprint, and electrical compatibility. Its capacity is measured in the maker’s rice cup—about 180 mL (6.1 fl oz)—not a standard U.S. measuring cup, and it refers to uncooked short-grain white rice.
How Zojirushi rice cooker capacity works
Zojirushi’s supplied rice cup holds approximately 180 mL (6.1 fl oz). Capacity figures refer to uncooked short-grain white rice measured with that cup; other rice and grains may vary. A cooker described as 5.5 cups is therefore not rated for 5.5 standard U.S. cups of cooked rice. Use the maker’s cup and follow the water markings and instructions for the specific model.
The official lineup groups cookers around 3 cups, 5-to-6 cups, and 10 cups uncooked. Choose according to your usual batch size, not household headcount alone: consider whether you cook rice daily, make larger batches for guests or leftovers, and have room for the appliance.
Three-cup capacity: compact batches
The NS-LHC05 is a compact example, rated for up to 3 rice-cup measures (0.54 L). Zojirushi’s official store says it can cook as little as 1/2 cup. Its listed features include Jasmine and GABA brown settings, keep warm, and reheating. See the NS-LHC05 specifications.
#1 Best Overall
- Compact: With its compact size and ability to cook as little as 1/2 a cup of rice or oats, this rice cooker is ideal for small families or couples
- Steel Cut Oatmeal Menu Setting: This is a special menu setting for cooking steel-cut oatmeal. The cooking flow is different than the regular Porridge setting and has a shorter completion time
- Brown or GABA Brown Menu Setting: The Brown Rice Activation (or GABA Brown Setting) activates brown rice by keeping the temperature inside the pan at about 104 degrees F for 2 hours. By activating brown rice, GABA, one of the nutrients contained in brown rice, increases its amount by 1.5 times as much as that contained in non-activated brown rice
- Long Grain White Menu Setting: This is a special menu setting for cooking long-grain white rice. The cooking flow is different than the White rice setting because long-grain white rice cooks differently than short or medium-grain white rice
- Easy to Transport and Hassle Free Storing: It can be transported easily with the help of a fold-down handle. The built-in retractable power cord makes moving and storing hassle-free
Five-and-a-half-cup capacity: a middle ground
The NS-ZCC10 is rated for up to 5.5 rice-cup measures (1.0 L). Zojirushi’s comparison article recommends 5-to-6-cup capacity for medium-to-large households, but that is manufacturer guidance—not a rule for every home. Match the capacity to how much you actually cook and the counter or storage space available. See the NS-ZCC10 specifications.
Ten-cup capacity: larger batches
The NP-NWC18 is rated for up to 10 rice-cup measures (1.8 L). Its capacity may suit frequent large batches, but confirm the exact model’s size and features before choosing it. Zojirushi also lists a 5.5-cup version, the NP-NWC10. See the NP-NWC10 and NP-NWC18 specifications.

What the cooking-system labels mean
Zojirushi describes these systems as different ways to heat and control the cooking process. The descriptions below are the manufacturer’s explanations, not independent comparative test results.
| System | Manufacturer’s description | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Conventional | A heating plate at the bottom heats the pan; soaking and steaming are required. | Consider it when simplicity is the priority. |
| Micom | A microcomputer judges the amount of rice and controls heat; soaking and steaming are programmed. | Consider it if automated control and menu choice matter. |
| IH + Micom | The pan acts as a conductor for heating, with high heat and responsive adjustment; soaking and steaming are programmed. | Compare models using this approach and weigh their current price against the features you will use. |
| Pressure + IH + Micom | Pressure and high heat are combined with IH and Micom controls. | Look here for advanced models and specialized menus; do not assume a particular taste result without independent evidence. |
Zojirushi says Micom models use fuzzy logic to adjust cooking time and temperature automatically. That is the manufacturer’s description of its technology, not a guarantee of a measured result for every rice type or user. Read the company’s Micom explanation and IH explanation.

Compare menus and convenience features model by model
Start with the food you actually make. Similar-looking models can have different settings, so check the exact product page rather than assuming a feature is shared across a family.
- Rice types and textures: Look for the specific settings you need, such as Jasmine, sushi, mixed, brown or GABA brown, sweet rice, semi-brown, and rinse-free rice.
- Other foods: If you make porridge or congee, quinoa, or oatmeal, confirm that the model lists the relevant program. The NP-NWC10, for example, lists porridge, congee, steel-cut oatmeal, and several rice menus.
- Timing and serving: Check for a delay timer, automatic or extended keep warm, and reheating if these matter to your routine. The NS-ZCC10 lists automatic and extended keep warm, reheating, and a timer.
- Cleaning: A detachable inner lid can make cleanup easier. Confirm whether the specific model has one; it is listed for the NS-ZCC10.
- Steam or cake functions: The NS-TSC10/18 includes steam and cake functions. The NL-AAC10/18 includes a steaming basket and steam-cook function. Verify the exact model’s included parts and programs.
For detailed menus and listed specifications, consult Zojirushi’s NS-ZCC10 page, NS-LHC05 page, NP-NWC10/NP-NWC18 page, NS-TSC10/18 page, and NL-AAC10/18 page.

Check fit, voltage, and the exact model number
Before buying, compare the appliance’s dimensions with your counter or storage space and verify the model suffix against the listing. The cited U.S. product pages specify 120 volts; that does not establish compatibility for other regions. Confirm the electrical specifications for the exact model and market, as well as the current retailer listing. Product availability and listings can change.

A practical way to choose
- Estimate your usual uncooked batch. Measure with Zojirushi’s supplied rice cup, not a standard U.S. cup. Decide whether a 3-cup, 5-to-6-cup, or 10-cup tier fits your cooking habits.
- Pick the cooking approach. Choose among conventional, Micom, IH + Micom, and pressure + IH + Micom based on the controls and heating approach you want—not an assumed improvement in taste.
- Match the menu to your meals. Verify settings for the rice types and other foods you prepare, then check timing, keep-warm, reheating, and cleaning features.
- Confirm the purchase details. Check dimensions, voltage, exact suffix, included accessories, and the current listing for the market where you will use it.
