ZéroJour turns structured cybersecurity advisories into a newspaper-style front page and article drafts, but it does not let the machine publish them: a human editor must approve each item. In a September 29, 2026, DEV Community post, project author Sam Labbe describes a Sanity-backed press edition that uses deterministic templates to compose drafts from advisory data rather than asking a language model to rewrite it.
What is ZéroJour’s press edition?
ZéroJour is an experiment in presenting structured cybersecurity advisory records as a newspaper. Instead of treating each advisory as a block of prose to be rewritten, the project uses its fields to organize the front page and assemble article drafts. Labbe describes the implementation in a September 29, 2026 DEV Community post. The details here reflect the author’s account, not an independent audit of the code or live service.
The press edition is built with Sanity, Next.js App Router, and @sanity/client, according to the post. GROQ queries drive the front page; article pages resolve references when readers open them. A pressArticle document type supports the editorial workflow.
How does the front page turn advisories into news?
The front page is organized around queryable properties in the advisory dataset rather than a single chronological feed. Labbe describes four views:

- Advisories marked as known exploited.
- Advisories whose fix status is no-fix.
- Advisories with a base severity score of at least 8.0, ranked by score.
- The latest dispatches, ordered by publication date.
The 8.0 cutoff is a filtering rule in the implementation as described by its author. It is not a statistical finding or evidence that the filter improves security outcomes. Article pages show CVSS components, the advisory’s own prose, remediation information, and a known-exploited (KEV) flag.
How can a machine compose an article without publishing it?
ZéroJour separates composition from editorial authority. The press desk assembles a draft from typed fields, including a profile line, remediation line, KEV flag, and an extract quoted from the advisory record. Labbe characterizes the process as deterministic: templates print structured content rather than asking an LLM to rewrite the advisory.

The workflow is draft → review → published. In Labbe’s description, only a human can move an item through those states to publication. The byline discloses that the machine composed the draft and a human approved it. As the author puts it, “An AI can draft your front page; it cannot sign it.”

Labbe says the project initially considered using a model to rewrite each advisory, then dropped that approach because it would add generated prose on top of already structured data. The selected design keeps the draft tied to the source schema and leaves the publication decision to a human editor.

That is a design choice, not demonstrated evidence that templated drafts are more accurate, faster, or more effective. The post reports no performance results or reader outcomes. Its central distinction is narrower: the machine arranges and labels existing information; a person approves what becomes a published dispatch.
What does the live ticker tell readers?
The project description says a live ticker listens for mutations to the dataset. Those events include writes made by the composer itself, so a ticker entry should be read as a notification that data changed—not as an independent confirmation that an advisory is newly verified, newly published, or authoritative.

Can you try the demo or run the project?
Labbe’s post links to a live demo and the project repository; the press application is in the repository’s press/ folder. The author gives npm install followed by npm run dev as the local setup commands. The post also says that when no write token is configured, the interface displays a read-only notice instead of presenting unavailable controls as functional. The demo and repository are author-provided links; their current availability has not been independently verified.
