A playlist containing videos with different frame rates is not, by itself, a confirmed cause of YouTube RTMP stream health warnings. YouTube’s published guidance focuses on the stream your encoder sends—its codec, frame rate, bitrate, resolution and keyframe timing. First identify the exact warning, then check the outgoing stream, network and encoder performance before testing whether the source clips contribute.

What a YouTube stream health warning tells you

YouTube checks the incoming stream in Live Control Room and the Live Dashboard. Its messages can point to a concrete ingest problem, such as an unsupported format, a frame rate beyond the configured maximum, a resolution mismatch or incorrect keyframe frequency. A warning is not automatically evidence that the source playlist is at fault.

Start with the warning’s exact wording and timestamp. YouTube labels critical errors red and moderate errors yellow; errors can remain while the underlying issue is unresolved. Keep the YouTube message separate from what your encoder reports locally: OBS dropped frames, rendering lag and encoding overload describe different stages and need different fixes.

Check the outgoing RTMP settings first

YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance supports H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1, allows output up to 60 fps, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, with four seconds as the maximum. YouTube recommends allowing Live Control Room to detect resolution and frame rate unless you have a reason to configure a custom stream key with manual settings. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.

  • 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
  • Codec and format: Verify that the encoder is actually sending a supported video codec and a compatible format, rather than relying on the source files’ properties.
  • Frame rate: Check the encoder’s output frame rate and YouTube’s configured maximum. Source clips can differ while the encoder still sends one output stream; the sources reviewed here do not establish a required frame rate for every source file in a loop.
  • Bitrate: Use the recommendation for your output codec, resolution and frame rate. There is no single bitrate appropriate for every stream. For H.264, YouTube lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended for 1080p at 30 fps; for 1080p at 60 fps, it lists 6 Mbps minimum and 17 Mbps recommended. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee of delivery quality.
  • Keyframes and GOP: Confirm that the encoder’s keyframe interval is near two seconds and does not exceed four seconds. YouTube notes that frame rate and keyframe frequency are linked: at 30 fps, keyframes every 60 frames correspond to two seconds. It also warns that ingest errors can affect GOP size and says a closed GOP is needed for optimal transcoding.
  • Other output properties: YouTube recommends progressive scan and describes square pixels and Rec. 709 for SDR among its advanced settings. Check its current guidance if you configure these manually.

The requirements above describe the encoded stream sent to YouTube. Changing the frame rate or format of every source clip is not a substitute for checking that output.

Diagnose the warning in order

  1. Capture the message. Write down the exact YouTube Live Control Room warning and its timestamp. Note whether it is red or yellow. YouTube’s live streaming error messages explain the kinds of ingest errors it reports.
  2. Match the warning to the output. Check the encoder’s codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate mode and keyframe interval against YouTube’s current settings guidance. If the message names a codec, resolution, frame rate or keyframe issue, address that specific mismatch first.
  3. Read encoder statistics. If you use OBS, inspect its statistics for network dropped frames and rendering or encoding strain. Those figures help distinguish a connection problem from a computer that cannot keep up.
  4. Check sustained network capacity. OBS says network drops can result from an unstable connection or a connection unable to sustain the configured bitrate. It recommends a wired connection and notes that faulty cables, routers or network cards can also be involved. Its advice is: “It’s recommended to use a wired connection when streaming.” See OBS stream connection troubleshooting.
  5. Check local workload if output is choppy. OBS identifies GPU workload, frame rate, output resolution, scene complexity, sources and filters as factors that can affect rendering or encoding. Reducing output resolution or frame rate may ease the load, but trades off image detail or motion smoothness. OBS notes: “Frame rate also impacts both rendering and encoding performance.” See OBS encoding performance troubleshooting.
  6. Test the loop under controlled conditions. Use the same representative loop, audio, output settings and duration, then compare one change at a time. For example, hold output settings steady while testing a consistently framed or normalized export. Record whether YouTube’s warning and encoder statistics change. YouTube recommends tests with representative movement and audio; changing one variable at a time is a practical diagnostic method, not a published YouTube procedure.

Can mixed frame rates in a loop cause warnings?

The official YouTube and OBS guidance described above does not say that looping videos with mixed source frame rates inherently causes a YouTube health warning. It also does not specify a required source-file frame rate for a looped playlist or explain how a particular encoder normalizes clips with different rates. So treat a source-frame-rate connection as a hypothesis to test, not a platform rule.

  • 【Package Content & Note】 1x HD Audio Capture Card , 1x USB 3.0 to USB C Adapter (A-side 3.0, B-side 2.0), 1x user manual. Please note that you need to restart the OBS Studio software after the audio setup is complete, otherwise it will result in no sound output. When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0

If a consistent-frame-rate export seems to change the result, that is useful evidence about your specific encoder and workflow; it does not prove that YouTube rejects mixed-frame-rate sources generally. Keep the output configuration, loop content, audio and test duration as consistent as possible, and compare the warning and encoder statistics before and after the one source-related change.

What you see What to investigate Next step
YouTube reports incorrect video keyframe frequency Encoder keyframe interval and GOP behavior Set a suitable interval—YouTube recommends two seconds and no more than four—and check that frame rate and keyframe timing agree.
YouTube reports a codec, format, frame-rate or resolution error The stream being ingested, not just the source clips Compare the encoder’s actual output with YouTube’s supported settings and the stream key’s configuration.
OBS reports network dropped frames Connection stability and ability to sustain the configured bitrate Try wired networking, check the router and cabling, and ensure the connection can sustain the selected bitrate.
The stream looks choppy and OBS shows rendering or encoding strain GPU headroom, output settings, scene complexity, sources and filters Reduce local workload or lower output frame rate or resolution, understanding the quality trade-off.
The warning persists but no clear mismatch appears Timestamped YouTube messages, encoder statistics and a controlled source test Repeat a representative test while changing only one relevant variable, then compare the results.
