If YouTube says your stream bitrate is too low, first check both sides of the stream: whether your encoder is configured for the selected resolution, frame rate and codec, and whether your connection can deliver that bitrate steadily. A warning does not by itself prove your Indian ISP is at fault. Match your settings to YouTube’s current recommendations, test from the place and connection you will use, then reduce streaming demand or investigate network interference if delivery remains unstable.
What a YouTube bitrate or stream-health warning means
YouTube’s health messages can point to different problems. Its Live Streaming API describes configuration issues such as audio bitrate below recommendation or video output problems, as well as cases where the server is not receiving enough video to keep the stream smooth (YouTube Live Streaming API health status). The wording matters: a configuration warning calls for checking encoder settings, while insufficient incoming video may involve either the encoder or the connection carrying the stream.
In OBS, watch the dropped-frames count and connection indicator. Rising dropped frames with a yellow or red indicator suggest the connection to the streaming server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. If OBS stays clear but YouTube flags an output configuration issue, inspect the encoder settings too (OBS connection troubleshooting; OBS dropped-frames guidance).
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCheck your encoder settings against YouTube’s recommendations
YouTube’s recommended bitrate depends on the ingestion codec, resolution and frame rate. The H.264 examples below are from YouTube’s current bitrate guidance, accessed October 3, 2026; they are encoder video-bitrate recommendations, not promised internet speed requirements (YouTube live encoder settings).

| H.264 output | YouTube minimum video bitrate | YouTube recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 480p at 30 fps | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
Use the row that matches your actual profile; do not copy a bitrate intended for a different resolution, frame rate or codec. YouTube supports H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1, and its recommended bitrates vary across them. For RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube specifies constant bitrate encoding and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, no longer than four seconds. It recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport to Google’s servers (YouTube live encoder settings).
A speed test result is not a stability guarantee. YouTube advises choosing a quality that is reliable for the available connection, and recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the real broadcast. Keep other household internet use in mind when choosing a profile: the stream needs to remain deliverable, not merely match a momentary upload result.

Diagnose the warning in order
- Write down the live output profile. Record resolution, frame rate, codec and configured video bitrate in your streaming software. Compare that exact combination with YouTube’s bitrate guidance rather than changing settings at random.
- Measure upload on the streaming connection. Run a speed test at the location where you will broadcast. Repeat around the hours you normally stream and, where practical, with ordinary household devices using the network. Repeating at likely stream times is a troubleshooting practice; YouTube’s guidance specifically recommends checking upload speed but does not prescribe a particular Indian test time or upload margin.
- Run a realistic private or unlisted test. Include the kind of motion and audio your real stream will have. Check YouTube Studio’s stream-health panel and, if using OBS, watch its connection indicator and dropped-frames count while the test runs.
- Lower the stream’s demand if delivery is unstable. Reduce video bitrate first. If that is not enough, try a lower resolution or frame rate, then repeat the test. OBS recommends lowering bitrate to fit stable upload capacity and the platform’s limits; YouTube likewise says to choose a quality that the connection can reliably support.
- Check local network and software interference. OBS identifies VPN software, security software and bundled network-priority tools as possible sources of connection trouble. For diagnosis, check whether the issue changes when these are not interfering; do not leave security protection disabled as a workaround. If you suspect Wi-Fi, a temporary wired Ethernet test can help isolate local wireless instability, but it cannot fix inadequate ISP capacity, a route problem or incorrect encoder settings.
- Treat dynamic bitrate as a compromise. OBS can lower bitrate during congestion, which may help keep a stream going, but it reduces video quality and does not repair the underlying dropped-frame cause (OBS connection troubleshooting).
- Escalate with useful evidence. If the warning persists after checking the profile and local network, contact your ISP. Share the times tested, measured upload results, stream profile and whether OBS showed dropped frames; these details help distinguish capacity or connection issues from encoder configuration.
Choose a profile for an Indian connection, not an ISP stereotype
There is no single bitrate that works for every connection in India, and the cited official guidance does not rank Indian providers, cities, broadband plans or mobile networks. Performance depends on the actual upload path where and when you stream. Measure that connection and choose the resolution, frame rate and bitrate that remain stable under normal household use. If a higher-quality profile repeatedly triggers health warnings or dropped frames, a lower profile that passes a realistic test is the more dependable choice.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative to keeping your own streaming computer online. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists and 24/7 looping, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. The uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K at 60 fps, at one flat price per slot with no quality tiers. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, then start your free day.
