If your YouTube live stream keeps disconnecting overnight on BSNL broadband, first find out whether the encoder, your local network, or the broadband connection is failing. The timing alone does not prove that BSNL is throttling or resetting streams. Capture what happens at the next failure, then use the checks below to isolate the cause.
What an overnight reset does—and does not—tell you
A failure that happens at a similar time is useful evidence to record, but it is not enough to identify a cause. There is no established, verified finding here that BSNL broadly resets or throttles YouTube streams overnight. An individual fault could be in the encoder, Wi-Fi or cabling, modem or access line, ISP connection or route, or YouTube ingestion.

YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance says to check the encoder first; if its output looks and sounds healthy, test the outbound internet connection and contact the ISP if that connection is faulty. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide

Before rebooting the encoder, router, modem, or ONT, write down the following. Use your local time and timezone so BSNL can correlate your report with its records.

- The exact time and timezone, plus whether the failure recurs at a similar time.
- The encoder’s error text and log entry, the bitrate graph, and the dropped-frame count.
- The YouTube Live Control Room stream-health status and any message shown at that time.
- Whether browsing or other internet use from the same connection also stopped.
- Whether Ethernet-connected devices lost connectivity, and whether modem, DSL, WAN, or ONT indicators changed.
- Your encoder, version, output resolution and frame rate, codec, bitrate, BSNL access type, and modem or ONT model.
This record helps distinguish a stream-ingest or encoder problem from a general connection interruption. A momentary disconnect can disappear from view after a reboot, so note the indicators and error first.
Check the encoder and YouTube stream health
Verify the encoder is producing a stable output
Update your encoder software, check its CPU load, and confirm it continues to produce video and audio when the stream fails. Run a private or unlisted test with representative motion and sound before relying on an overnight broadcast. Monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators during the test. Use settings that fit sustained upload capacity
Do not set bitrate based only on a single peak speed-test result. A live stream needs stable upload capacity throughout the broadcast, including when the picture has motion and audio. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; it says not to exceed four seconds. Its current encoder-settings page lists H.264 at 1080p/30 fps at 14 Mbps, while the listed AV1/H.265 recommendation for the same resolution and frame rate is 10 Mbps. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular BSNL connection can sustain either rate. - Protocol: RTMP or RTMPS.
- Rate control: CBR.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Bitrate: choose from YouTube’s table for your codec and video settings, then verify it with a realistic test over your connection.
Interpret the symptoms
- If encoder output or audio fails, or CPU load is persistently high, investigate the computer and encoder before attributing the incident to BSNL.
- If the encoder continues producing output but reports network or dropped-frame trouble, compare its timestamps with YouTube’s stream-health messages and your modem or ONT indicators.
- If other internet use also fails at the same time, that supports investigating the local network or broadband path, but does not by itself identify which part failed.
Separate Wi-Fi and cabling from the broadband connection
If the streaming computer uses Wi-Fi, test with Ethernet if possible. A wired test removes the wireless link as one possible source of interruption. Check that the cable is seated and that the router or modem’s LAN indicators show a link. BSNL’s published customer guide advises checking or changing the Ethernet cable when the Ethernet/LAN light is off. A replacement cable is relevant only if the current link or cable is suspect; it cannot fix an upstream provider fault.
If you cannot run Ethernet, check whether the computer remains connected to Wi-Fi during the failure and whether other devices on the same Wi-Fi network lose access too. Avoid changing several network settings at once: make one change, repeat a representative test, and record the outcome.
Check the indicators for your BSNL access type
DSL or ADSL
BSNL’s Chennai customer guide says an off or blinking DSL light—or one that goes off—warrants checking loose connections and the wiring, splitter, and modem path. If DSL stays synchronized but browsing fails on a PPPoE connection, check the modem’s WAN status for an authentication failure. The guide is regional and legacy, so its interface details may differ from current equipment. BSNL broadband guidance

FTTH, ONT, or AirFiber
Do not apply DSL-light or splitter instructions to fiber or AirFiber equipment. Observe the indicators on your actual ONT or device, note any change at the time of failure, and follow current instructions for your region and model. If the device appears online while YouTube ingestion drops, preserve the timestamps and encoder and stream-health evidence for support rather than assuming the line is healthy or faulty from a single indicator.

YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP through an SSL connection. Use it if your encoder supports it and you want the recommended secure transport. Switching from RTMP to RTMPS does not establish or guarantee a fix for instability: it cannot tell you whether the underlying issue is Wi-Fi, cabling, the modem, access line, ISP routing, or another fault. Once you have several incident records, contact BSNL through its self-care complaint facility or the broadband/Bharat Fiber support number listed on its current customer-care information page: 1800-4444. Give the exact timestamps and timezone, access type, encoder error, YouTube stream-health messages, and whether other devices lost connectivity. Include whether DSL, WAN, LAN, or ONT indicators changed, and ask support to check line or session diagnostics around those windows.
