If you mean your own YouTube Live broadcast playing a playlist, first check the public watch page from another device or network: a viewer’s playback problem does not necessarily mean the broadcast ended. If you mean a playlist you were watching, use the viewer-only steps below. For creators, the key is to restore power and internet, confirm the encoder is sending again, and verify the live event from a viewer’s point of view.
First determine whether the stream or only your playback went offline
Open the public watch page on a phone using mobile data, or ask someone on another connection to check it. If the broadcast is still visible there, the problem is local playback on your device or network. If it is unavailable to other viewers too, troubleshoot the creator’s PC, encoder, and connection.

Recover the stream after electricity returns
1. Restore power to the PC and network equipment
Check that the PC has actually booted, then check the modem and router. These devices may take longer to restart than the computer. A powered-on PC is not necessarily back online if the router, modem, or ISP connection is still down.

2. Confirm the PC has internet access
On Windows 10 or Windows 11, check the network icon and connection status. If needed, reconnect to the expected Wi-Fi network. Test another device on the same network as well. If multiple devices cannot reach the internet, the fault may be with the modem, router, or ISP rather than the PC. Microsoft’s Windows Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance notes that a device can reach the router without having internet access.
3. Restart the modem and router only if the connection has not recovered
If the network remains down, follow Microsoft’s documented restart sequence: power-cycle the modem and router, wait for the modem lights to settle and the router to finish starting, then reconnect the PC. This temporarily disconnects everyone using that network. Avoid repeatedly restarting equipment that is already recovering.

4. Check the encoder and YouTube Live Control Room
If you operate the broadcast, open your encoder and check whether it is producing the expected picture and sending a feed. Then check the event in YouTube Live Control Room to see whether YouTube is receiving it. If the encoder appears healthy but the feed is not reaching YouTube, investigate the outbound connection; if service remains impaired across devices, contact your ISP.
5. Verify the public watch page
After the encoder is sending again, check the event’s viewer-facing watch page from a second device or connection. Do not treat a healthy local preview as proof that viewers can see the stream.

If you were only watching a playlist
If other viewers can still see the live event, reload the page or close and reopen the browser. If the issue persists, check for browser or computer updates and try a different internet connection. YouTube’s playback help covers common loading and buffering issues; these steps do not restart the creator’s broadcast.
Why auto-start may not bring the broadcast back
YouTube documents auto-start and auto-stop as controls for starting or stopping a stream from an encoder. That is not a guarantee that a PC will boot after a power cut or that a previous encoder session will resume. After power returns, confirm the encoder is running and sending content, and check the event status yourself. Reconnect behavior can also differ by encoder, so do not assume every third-party encoder handles a dropped connection identically.

Reduce the chance of another power-cut outage
Use a UPS for local equipment
A UPS can keep the PC and modem/router powered during an outage for the runtime supported by the equipment and combined load. Size it for the devices that must stay on, and check the manufacturer’s capacity and runtime estimates against that load. A UPS cannot guarantee that the ISP connection stays available, and the actual runtime depends on the connected equipment and desired outage duration.
