For a quick, spreadsheet-ready copy of a public or accessible unlisted YouTube playlist, use a focused browser exporter that offers CSV and, if needed, text or Excel output. Use Google Takeout when you want an archive of Google account data, and consider a browser extension when its advertised import or extra-format features fit your workflow. The right choice depends on playlist visibility, whether you mean YouTube or YouTube Music, the export limit, and the access a tool requests.
Choose a route based on what you need
| Your goal | Best-fit route | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Save one accessible playlist as a usable file | Focused browser exporter | CSV plus optional formats such as text or Excel; the researched exporter says it does not require YouTube sign-in for public or accessible unlisted playlists. |
| Keep an archive of Google account data | Google Takeout | An account-data archive, not necessarily a ready-to-use playlist workbook. Available formats depend on the service and data type. |
| Export with advertised extra formats or import a CSV back into YouTube | Browser extension | Features, playlist support, limits, and permissions differ by extension. Confirm the current listing before relying on them. |
| Copy eligible YouTube Music playlists to another supported music service | Google’s playlist-transfer feature | A one-time service-to-service copy, not a general-purpose file export; later edits do not sync. |
The feature descriptions and limits below are claims made by Google, the exporter, or extension publishers; they are not results of hands-on testing or an independent comparison.
Export a playlist as CSV, text, or Excel
Check visibility and service first
A public or accessible unlisted playlist is the best fit for a public-API exporter. The researched web exporter says private playlists cannot be read through that route. An extension may have different requirements, but do not assume that a tool for standard YouTube also works with YouTube Music. For example, one reviewed extension listing says it does not support YouTube Music or private playlists.
Use a focused browser exporter
- Open the playlist in YouTube. Confirm that the playlist is public or accessible as an unlisted playlist. A private playlist is not available through the researched exporter’s public API route.
- Choose the output format. Select CSV for a structured, portable file; choose text for a simple readable list or Excel/XLSX for a formatted worksheet if the exporter offers it.
- Start the export and save the downloaded file. The researched exporter advertises CSV without YouTube sign-in for public or accessible unlisted playlists and offers optional Excel, text, and other formats.
- Check the result before relying on it. Verify that the expected videos and columns are present. The exporter’s guide states that its launch version supports up to 500 videos from one playlist; this vendor-stated limit may change.
Unavailable videos can be omitted or have less metadata: the guide names deleted, private, age-restricted, region-restricted, and otherwise unavailable videos as cases that may be affected. Public metrics in an export are snapshots, not live spreadsheet values, and some metrics may be absent.

Pick the file format for the next step
| Format | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| CSV | Spreadsheet apps, imports, scripts, and analysis. It is plain text arranged in rows and columns. | It does not preserve workbook styling. The exporter’s guide describes a header row and one row per available video, UTF-8 encoding, and standard quoting for commas and line breaks. |
| Text | A simple list that is easy to read or copy. | The reviewed sources do not establish that text files preserve structured metadata as consistently as CSV. |
| Excel/XLSX | Manual review in a formatted worksheet. | The researched guide says its XLSX output preserves column widths and wrapped descriptions. Format details can vary by exporter. |
| JSON or another format | A particular application or technical workflow that expects that format. | Some tools advertise these options, but confirm the current format set and fields before depending on them. |
If you need both a readable worksheet and a source file for later automation, the exporter’s guide recommends keeping both Excel and CSV.
Use Google Takeout for an account archive
Google Takeout lets you select Google data and create an archive, delivered by download link or to a cloud destination. It is a better fit for an account-data copy than for quickly producing a single formatted playlist spreadsheet. Google recommends downloading and viewing Takeout exports on a desktop. The archive includes archive_browser.html, which points to information about the archive’s contents and formats.

Available formats depend on the service and data type. Google notes that HTML files can be opened in a browser, while CSV and JSON files can be opened in common desktop software. Archives can be split into multiple files; download links expire in about seven days, and an archive can be downloaded up to five times.
When a browser extension makes sense
Extensions may suit a workflow that needs a format or import feature a focused exporter does not advertise. Their published limits and permissions are not uniform:

- One Chrome Web Store listing advertises CSV, XLSX, and JSON export, says processing happens locally in the browser, and lists a free limit of 50 videos per playlist. The same listing says it does not work with YouTube Music or private playlists. These are publisher statements, not independently verified privacy or reliability findings.
- A second listing advertises CSV export and importing a CSV back into YouTube. It says public-playlist export does not require account authorization, but importing requires Google account access and uses the YouTube Data API. Its stated free limits are 30 exported videos per playlist and 20 imported videos per month.
Check the current listing for supported playlist types, permissions, and free or paid limits. Do not grant account access just to export a public playlist if the tool’s published workflow says authorization is unnecessary for that task.
Exporting is different from transferring a YouTube Music playlist
Google’s direct YouTube Music transfer feature moves eligible playlists to supported music services; it is not a general-purpose CSV or spreadsheet download. Google says it can transfer playlists you created, but not saved playlists created by other users. The transfer is a one-time copy, so later edits do not sync.

Google also lists exclusions: some tracks may be omitted when the destination lacks them, and the transfer excludes curated playlists, Liked Music, collaborative playlists you do not own, user-uploaded or private content, and podcasts. Consider these constraints before treating a transfer as a complete backup.

The playlist is missing or the export is incomplete
- Check whether the playlist is private. The researched exporter says its public API route cannot read private playlists.
- Check the exporter’s stated per-playlist limit. Its guide gives a launch-version limit of 500 videos, which may change.
- Look for unavailable videos. Deleted, private, age-restricted, region-restricted, or otherwise unavailable items may be omitted or include less metadata.
The extension cannot see a playlist or service
Check the extension listing for support for private playlists and YouTube Music. One reviewed extension explicitly excludes both. Feature claims and limits can change, so verify the current listing rather than relying on an old description.

The imported or exported data does not match what you expected
CSV exports represent a point-in-time file, not a live connection to YouTube. Video availability, public metrics, and metadata can change; some metrics may not be available. For a transfer to a music service, review Google’s eligibility and content exclusions instead of expecting every playlist item to arrive.
A separate tool for keeping uploaded videos live
Playlist export tools create files or account archives; they do not keep a YouTube channel streaming. If you separately want uploaded videos to loop as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a cloud service for that different task: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It streams the uploaded video from the cloud rather than from a camera or a computer that must stay on. Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month.
