Changing your phone number is not identified in YouTube’s current Help guidance as a standalone reason a channel loses live-streaming access. The timing may be a clue, but it does not establish the cause. Check your channel’s verification and live-streaming eligibility in YouTube Studio first; then check for restrictions and, if you are using the YouTube mobile app, its separate requirements.
Check channel eligibility in YouTube Studio
Start with the channel’s status, not the phone or SIM. YouTube says channels must be verified to live stream, and its general live-streaming guidance also requires that the channel have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console as available streaming methods. The status shown for your channel is more useful than assuming the number change caused the problem.
- Open YouTube Studio and check the channel’s Feature eligibility status. Look for verification and live-streaming eligibility.
- Confirm that live streaming is enabled. If you have only just enabled it, YouTube says your first mobile live stream may take up to 24 hours to become available. See YouTube Help’s Create a live stream on mobile.
- Check whether the channel has a live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days. YouTube says live-streaming ability can be turned off temporarily or permanently; see Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming.
If you are trying to stream from the YouTube mobile app
Mobile live streaming has additional eligibility requirements. YouTube’s current Help page lists at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, live streaming enabled, and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The page also specifies supported mobile operating systems and says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. These are platform requirements, not estimates of how many creators are affected.
India is listed for YouTube’s mobile Playables live-streaming experience. That listing is specific to Playables and does not establish that every YouTube live feature is available identically in every country.

Use another method only to narrow down the issue
YouTube documents mobile, webcam, encoder, and console streaming methods. If one method is unavailable, checking another can help you determine whether the issue is specific to the method you tried. It will not remove a channel-level restriction or replace required verification. YouTube’s general setup guidance is titled Get started with live streaming.
What changing your number does—and does not—tell you
The official YouTube guidance reviewed ties live access to verification, feature eligibility, method-specific requirements, and restrictions. It does not say that changing the verified phone number automatically disables live streaming, and it does not document a number-change-specific cooldown. The connection between your number change and the unavailable feature is therefore not established. Re-verifying with the new number may be relevant to account verification, but the guidance does not promise that doing so will restore live access.

If Studio shows eligible but you still cannot go live
- Record the exact error message and the date and time it appeared.
- Note the device and app or browser you used, the streaming method, and the eligibility status shown in Studio.
- Contact YouTube Help or creator support if available to you, and include those details. Do not treat the phone-number change as the confirmed cause unless YouTube identifies it as one.
If YouTube says you have reached the daily limit for creating streams, its restrictions guidance says you can try again in 24 hours.
