A change in channel ownership may be related to when live streaming stopped working, but YouTube’s published guidance does not say that an ownership change by itself automatically disables live streaming. Start by confirming you are using the right Google Account and channel, then check YouTube Studio’s Feature eligibility, verification status and any restriction notices. The fix depends on what those checks show—not simply on how long ago ownership changed.
Check these things first
- Confirm the account and channel. Make sure the signed-in Google Account is the one that has access to the channel, and that the correct channel is selected in YouTube. Check that your current Brand Account role or YouTube Studio channel permission gives you the access you expect.
- Review Feature eligibility. In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility. Check which features are available and whether phone verification is complete or offered. YouTube says verification unlocks live streaming, but it does not override an active restriction.
- Inspect notices and email. Look in Studio and the channel’s related email for a live-stream restriction, Community Guidelines or copyright issue, or other enforcement notice. If a notice provides an appeal route, use that process.
- Check the requirements for your streaming method. General live-stream eligibility differs from mobile live streaming, which has additional requirements. See the next section before treating a delay or subscriber count as the explanation.
- Identify what “ownership change” meant. A change to Brand Account roles, a change to YouTube Studio permissions, and a transfer of a channel to another Brand Account are different actions. Confirm which one occurred before making further changes.
If the eligibility panel shows access, verification is complete, no relevant restriction appears, and you have the right account and channel selected, contact the YouTube Help or Creator Support route available to that account. Include the channel URL, exact error text, date of the change, what role or permission changed, the streaming method, and a screenshot of Feature eligibility. YouTube does not publish a general post-ownership-change recovery procedure, so a channel-specific response may be needed.
Which YouTube live-stream requirements apply?
General live streaming
YouTube’s “Get started with live streaming” guidance says a channel must be verified and must have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. It also states a minimum age of 16 to live stream. The 90-day restriction check is not the same as waiting 90 days: if there is an active restriction, follow the notice and any available appeal process.

Mobile live streaming has extra conditions: at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days, and compatible device requirements. YouTube says the first mobile live stream can take up to 24 hours to become available after live streaming is enabled. That timing is specific to a first mobile stream; it is not an official promise that waiting a day will restore access after an ownership change. Do not apply the mobile subscriber threshold to desktop or encoder streaming.

Tell a role change from a channel transfer
“Changing channel ownership” can describe several different operations. YouTube treats Brand Account roles, YouTube Studio channel permissions, and moving a channel between Brand Accounts as distinct arrangements. Neither the official Brand Account guidance nor the transfer instructions establish that the operation alone removes live-stream access.

Do not start a channel transfer as a troubleshooting shortcut. If you are unsure whether a previous action changed a role or moved the channel, establish exactly what happened before making another ownership or transfer change.

What can disable live streaming?
YouTube identifies several possible reasons for live-stream access being turned off, including policy, copyright and age-related issues. Check the actual notice attached to the channel rather than assuming the ownership change caused the problem. Phone verification does not cancel an enforcement action, and equipment or streaming software cannot restore feature eligibility.

Do not try to get around an active restriction by streaming from another channel. YouTube treats that as circumvention and says it may lead to account termination. Use the restriction notice’s appeal process where one is offered.

If the checks do not explain the problem
- Record the exact error message and whether it appears in Studio, on YouTube, or in an encoder.
- Note the channel URL, which Google Account is signed in, the streaming method, and the date and type of ownership or permissions change.
- Save a screenshot of the Feature eligibility panel and any relevant Studio notice.
- Contact the support option available in YouTube Help or Creator Support for that account. Ask them to check the channel’s live-stream eligibility rather than making another transfer based on a guess.
