Changing a YouTube channel’s country to India is not, by itself, identified in YouTube’s published guidance as a reason live streaming is disabled. YouTube says the country/region setting is relevant to YouTube Partner Program eligibility, while its general live-streaming prerequisites are channel verification and no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. Those are separate stated requirements, but YouTube’s public pages do not determine what caused a particular channel’s issue.
Start by checking verification, Studio’s feature-eligibility status, and any account notices—not by changing equipment or repeatedly editing the country setting.
Does changing the country setting to India disable live streaming?
YouTube’s channel-settings guidance says the selected country or region is used for YouTube Partner Program eligibility. Its general live-streaming guidance instead names channel verification and having no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days as prerequisites. The documentation therefore does not establish that changing a channel’s country to India disables live streaming, nor does it rule out a connection in an individual case. YouTube’s channel-settings page and live-streaming guidance describe different stated purposes.

If the feature stopped working after a country change, check the channel’s own Studio status and notices. They may reveal an account-specific restriction or eligibility issue that general help pages cannot identify.

Check these account requirements first
General live-streaming eligibility
YouTube’s general guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, says a channel must be verified and must have had no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days to live stream. It also says creators must be at least 16 years old. The 90-day period is an eligibility lookback; it does not mean every suspension lasts 90 days. Get started with live streaming.
- Confirm the channel is verified.
- Check whether live streaming is enabled and whether Studio shows a restriction or feature-eligibility notice.
- Review current and recent live-stream policy or copyright notices.
If you are streaming from a phone or tablet
Mobile streaming has an additional requirement: at least 50 subscribers. You also need a verified channel, no live-stream restrictions within the previous 90 days, and live streaming turned on. YouTube says the first mobile stream may take up to 24 hours to become available after activation. Do not apply the 50-subscriber rule to every streaming method. India appears on YouTube’s list of countries where eligible creators can stream Playables on mobile. That is specific to that feature and does not establish that a channel’s country setting controls general live-stream access.
Diagnose the disabled feature in YouTube Studio
- Confirm the country setting. In YouTube Studio, go to Settings → Channel and check the country/region. YouTube describes it as relevant to Partner Program eligibility; it is not presented as a live-stream toggle. Avoid changing it repeatedly as a troubleshooting shortcut.
- Check verification and feature eligibility. Confirm the channel is verified, then inspect Studio’s feature-eligibility and live controls for a status message. General live streaming requires verification and no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- Read notifications and email. Look for policy or copyright notices, restriction dates, and any appeal instructions. YouTube says these events can lead to live-stream restrictions and may provide appeal directions by email. Learn about live-streaming restrictions.
- Apply the mobile checks only if the problem is mobile-only. Verify the 50-subscriber threshold and allow up to 24 hours after enabling the feature for a first mobile stream.
- Use the account’s available appeal or support route. If Studio shows a restriction you believe is mistaken, follow the appeal process shown there. Public help pages cannot confirm an individual channel’s cause or promise restoration.
Understand the difference between a strike and the 90-day rule
YouTube says a live-stream strike prevents live streaming for 14 days. Separately, its general eligibility requirement is that there be no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. These figures describe different things: the stated strike restriction period and the eligibility lookback window. Check the actual notice on the channel to see what applies.

Do not try to evade an active restriction by streaming through another channel. YouTube says bypassing a live-stream restriction that way is prohibited.

A phone, webcam, encoder, or streaming computer affects how you produce and send a stream; it cannot verify a channel, remove an account restriction, or restore eligibility. If YouTube has disabled live streaming at the account level, resolve the notice through Studio before troubleshooting production hardware.
