If YouTube Live Control Room reports low audio bitrate, check your encoder’s audio settings—not the video bitrate. For stereo, set audio to 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz, then confirm that the stream sends one audio stream using one or two channels. Hindi content does not require a special bitrate; YouTube’s guidance bases its recommendations on the audio format and channel setup.
Fix the low audio bitrate warning
- Check the outgoing audio bitrate in your encoder. For stereo, set it to 128 Kbps. YouTube describes audio both below and above its recommendation as an incorrect bitrate, so use the recommended value rather than simply raising it. The warning is about encoded audio, not the video bitrate. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and live streaming error messages.
- Check sample rate and channel count. For stereo, use 44.1 kHz. Make sure the encoder is sending one audio stream with no more than two channels under the cited error guidance. If you intentionally use 5.1 surround, use the separate 5.1 settings below rather than the stereo values.
- Confirm the audio codec and stream structure. For RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio and recommends CBR bitrate encoding. Confirm that audio is present and that the encoder is not sending multiple audio streams.
- Preview and test the change. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages after changing the encoder. YouTube recommends testing with audio and video similar to the actual stream and monitoring stream health while live. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
Encoder labels differ, so look specifically for audio bitrate, sample rate, channels, and codec. Do not change the video bitrate to clear an audio warning: YouTube sets video bitrate recommendations separately by codec, resolution, and frame rate.
Does Hindi music need a different audio bitrate?
No special Hindi bitrate is specified in YouTube’s cited encoder guidance. The recommendation is based on whether the stream is stereo or 5.1 surround—not on whether the playlist contains Hindi music, speech, or another language. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance does not establish a language-specific audio bitrate either.

| Audio format | YouTube-recommended bitrate | Sample rate | Protocol and codec notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stereo | 128 Kbps | 44.1 kHz | For RTMP/RTMPS, AAC or MP3; YouTube recommends CBR bitrate encoding. |
| 5.1 surround | 384 Kbps | 48 kHz | For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube says 5.1 is supported only with AAC. |
These are YouTube’s recommended settings, not a guarantee that every encoder uses the same labels or defaults. If you are unsure whether the playlist is stereo or 5.1, check the encoder’s channel setting and the source audio configuration before selecting a row.

Check the warning and diagnose what is actually failing
Read the Live Control Room message
Open the live stream’s Stream health area in Live Control Room and read the specific message. YouTube says errors are timestamped and can recur while unresolved; red errors are critical and yellow errors are moderate. Its live metrics page also displays stream status and real-time analytics. Post-stream analytics become available in YouTube Analytics within minutes after the stream ends. See YouTube’s live stream metrics guidance.
Listen to the encoder output and local recording
Check how the audio sounds in the encoder and, if you record locally, in that recording. Review encoder errors and CPU load. If the local output is already distorted, intermittent, or silent, investigate the audio source, routing, and encoder settings before treating the issue as an internet problem. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends examining the stream and encoder when diagnosing quality issues: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.

Investigate the network if the encoded output is healthy
If the encoder’s output and local recording sound healthy but the live stream remains unhealthy, check outbound internet speed and network reliability. Consider whether other devices or services are sharing the connection, and contact your internet provider if the connection itself shows problems. Network instability can harm a stream overall, but the low-audio-bitrate message points first to the encoded audio bitrate setting.

Do not apply RTMP/RTMPS codec assumptions to an HLS setup. YouTube’s HLS guidance also lists AC3 and EAC3 audio support, while retaining the 128 Kbps stereo and 384 Kbps 5.1 recommendations. HLS has protocol-specific requirements, including transport-stream segments of 1–4 seconds and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments; YouTube also notes that HLS has higher latency than continuous RTMP ingestion. Consult YouTube’s HLS setup guidance for the applicable requirements.

Common causes and what to check
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| Audio bitrate warning continues after a change | Verify the encoder’s actual outgoing audio bitrate is 128 Kbps for stereo; confirm the intended format and whether the stream settings were applied to the live output. |
| Audio is missing or Live Control Room reports an audio-stream issue | Confirm audio is enabled, a supported codec is selected for the protocol, and the encoder sends one audio stream. |
| Audio channels are unsupported or do not match your plan | Check channel configuration. Use one channel for mono or two for stereo under the cited error guidance; use YouTube’s separate 5.1 recommendation only for a 5.1 stream. |
| Local recording or encoder preview already sounds poor | Investigate the audio source, routing, encoder settings, and encoder errors before changing network settings. |
| Local output is clean but the stream has broader instability | Check outbound bandwidth, connection reliability, and competing network use; contact your ISP if the connection is problematic. |
