A zero dropped-frame count in OBS does not explain or rule out YouTube’s separate “poor connection” warning. OBS’s counter reports whether OBS detects trouble sustaining its connection to the remote ingest server; the exact trigger for YouTube’s warning in this situation is not established. Capture both systems’ evidence, then test one connection factor at a time.
What “zero dropped frames” tells you—and what it does not
OBS Project defines dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Its statistic is useful evidence about OBS’s connection during the measured session, but it is not a complete explanation of every warning YouTube may display.
The available OBS guidance does not define YouTube’s warning logic when OBS reports zero dropped frames. The warning alone therefore does not prove an ingest outage, a bad connection, or an OBS defect. Treat the mismatch as a diagnosis to investigate, not as a verdict.
Collect evidence from the same moment
- Record the exact warning and time. Note its precise wording, when it appears, whether it persists or clears, and what was happening in the stream.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room. Save the stream-health details available for that session. They are useful evidence to compare with OBS, but do not assume they establish a cause by themselves.
- Check OBS statistics and output settings. Review the stream statistics and the actual configured video bitrate. Compare them with what YouTube showed at the same time, rather than relying on a later or unrelated speed test.
- Keep the OBS log for the session. If you need to ask for help, include the relevant log and the time of the warning so the two records can be considered together.
A high speed-test result alone does not show that the stream can sustain its configured bitrate continuously. The stream’s real connection path and behavior matter.

Run controlled connection tests
Change one variable at a time, and note whether the warning or OBS statistics change. If you alter several settings at once, a better or worse result will not tell you which change mattered.
1. Lower the configured bitrate
If the warning recurs, reduce the video bitrate for a controlled test and observe the actual stream. OBS’s troubleshooting guide suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting point for stream bitrate. This is a heuristic, not a guaranteed safe setting: sustained performance, network variation, and the stream’s real behavior still matter. Do not treat a single speed-test number as proof that a bitrate is sustainable.

2. Try a different ingest server where available
OBS recommends testing a different stream server. Use the server or ingest selection available in your streaming setup, change only that selection, and compare the result. This can help test whether the selected server path is relevant; it does not establish that the original server was faulty.

OBS recommends a wired network connection for streaming. If you are on Wi-Fi, test over Ethernet and compare the warning and stream statistics. If the wired test helps, investigate the wireless link and router placement or behavior; it does not by itself identify the exact Wi-Fi cause. Inspect the existing cable and network path as well. An Ethernet cable for streaming PC is relevant only if you need a wired link or suspect a cable is faulty—not as a guaranteed fix.

4. Check software that can interfere with networking
Test whether a VPN, firewall or antivirus software, or a network-prioritization or optimization utility is affecting the connection. Change one relevant setting at a time, and follow the software vendor’s guidance before disabling protection. OBS also lists outdated network drivers as a possible cause to investigate.
Some OBS network-setting suggestions are specific to Windows and should not be treated as universal fixes. In particular, do not apply Windows network optimizations or TCP pacing changes to other operating systems. OBS’s IPv4-only suggestion is also a test rather than a default: if switching to IPv4 only makes no difference, return to IPv4/IPv6.

- Cat 8 Speed, Cat 5/5e Value Enjoy Cat 8 Ethernet cable performance at a Cat 5/5e-level value. With up to 40Gbps speed and 2000MHz bandwidth, this high speed internet cable delivers more bandwidth than standard Cat 5 and Cat 5e cables, helping support smooth gaming, streaming, video calls, large file transfers and everyday wired network use.
- 40Gbps Speed, Wide Compatibility This Cat 8 Ethernet cable supports up to 40Gbps data transfer and 2000MHz bandwidth for fast, reliable internet performance. Standard RJ45 connectors are backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6, Cat6a and Cat5e devices, including routers, modems, switches, gaming PCs, PS5, PS4, Xbox, smart TVs, laptops and printers.
- Stable U/FTP Shielding Each of the 4 twisted pairs is individually wrapped with aluminum foil to help reduce crosstalk, noise, and signal interference. Combined with RJ45 connectors on both ends, the U/FTP design helps maintain cleaner signal transmission for a stable and reliable wired network connection.
- Nylon Braided Durability The nylon braided jacket adds everyday durability while keeping the cable flexible and easy to route. Reinforced construction helps the cord handle bending, pulling and frequent plugging, making it a reliable choice for desks, gaming rooms, home offices and long-term network setups.
- 50ft Reach for More Setups The 50 ft length makes it easier to connect devices across rooms, along walls, under desks or around corners. Great for router-to-PC connections, modem-to-TV setups, gaming consoles, workstations, printers and other home network equipment that needs a longer Ethernet cable.
5. Check the local hardware path
Inspect the modem, router, network card, switch, extender, and cables for faults or unstable connections. OBS identifies these as possible contributors, not confirmed causes in any particular setup. If the problem persists after the listed checks, OBS recommends contacting your internet service provider.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Dynamic bitrate is a fallback, not a repair
OBS describes dynamic bitrate adjustment as a way to lower bitrate when the connection cannot maintain the configured rate. That can help keep a stream going, but a lower bitrate can reduce picture quality. It does not fix the underlying network issue, so use it as a fallback while investigating persistent instability rather than as proof that the problem is resolved.

Troubleshooting results: what each test can tell you
| Test | What it changes | How to interpret the result |
|---|---|---|
| Lower bitrate | Reduces the stream’s sustained bitrate demand. | If behavior changes, bitrate demand may be relevant; the test does not identify the underlying network cause. |
| Different ingest server | Changes the selected server or ingest path. | A difference makes the selected path worth investigating; it does not prove an outage or fault. |
| Wired Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi | Changes the local network link and its stability. | A difference points toward the wireless link or its path as a candidate, not a definitive diagnosis. |
| VPN, security, or prioritization software test | Changes possible software interference with networking. | A difference makes the tested software or setting relevant to investigate further. |
| Hardware inspection or ISP escalation | Checks local equipment and the connection beyond it. | Faulty hardware or a provider-side issue remains possible; use the ISP if OBS’s listed checks do not resolve persistent trouble. |
