To send a YouTube Live Redirect, your channel must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes, according to YouTube Help. That threshold applies to the channel sending viewers—not the channel receiving them. YouTube says channels of any size can receive redirects, provided the destination stream allows them.
Who can send a YouTube Live Redirect?
YouTube Help says the creator sending a redirect must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. “More than 1,000” means a channel with exactly 1,000 subscribers does not meet the stated threshold. This is a sender requirement, not a minimum for the destination channel. See YouTube Help’s Live Redirect guidance.
Can a small channel receive a redirect?
Yes. TeamYouTube stated on May 3, 2022, that “Channels of any size will be able to receive Live redirects.” A destination channel still needs to configure its permissions so the source channel can redirect viewers to its live stream. The size distinction is therefore straightforward: YouTube’s current Help guidance sets a threshold for sending, while the TeamYouTube announcement says there is no channel-size threshold for receiving.

What permission must the destination channel grant?
For a redirect to another channel’s live stream, that channel must allow the source channel in its YouTube Studio settings. YouTube lists these permission choices:
- Channels the destination subscribes to: The destination can allow redirects from channels it subscribes to. Its subscriptions must be public for this option.
- All channels: The destination can allow redirects from any channel. This choice cannot be combined with the other listed permission choices.
- Specific channels: The destination can approve channels individually. The manual list supports up to 100 channels and can be used alongside the subscribe-based option.
These controls are on the receiving side; meeting the sender eligibility threshold does not override a destination channel’s permission settings. See YouTube’s instructions for Live Redirect permissions.

How to set up a redirect
YouTube Help documents the setup in YouTube Studio. You can direct viewers from a live video or Premiere to an eligible Premiere or another channel’s live stream.
- Open YouTube Studio and select Content, then Live.
- Find the source live video and open its details for editing.
- Open Customization, find Redirect, and select Add.
- Choose an eligible Premiere or another channel’s live stream. For another channel’s stream, that channel must have allowed your channel through its redirect permissions.
- Save the change. YouTube’s feature announcement also identifies Live Control Room as a setup route.

What viewers experience when the source ends
YouTube describes autoplay moving viewers to the selected destination when the originating live stream or Premiere ends. Viewers who have autoplay disabled may need to click play instead. YouTube recommends setting up the destination Premiere before the source live stream and telling viewers to wait briefly after the source ends while the destination loads. Common eligibility and setup problems
- Your channel has exactly 1,000 subscribers: The stated sender threshold is more than 1,000, not 1,000 or more.
- Your channel has a Community Guidelines strike: YouTube’s stated sender requirement is that the channel have no such strikes.
- The destination stream is not available to select: Check that the receiving channel has allowed your channel, or selected a permission option that includes it.
- The destination allows subscribed channels, but your channel is not covered: The subscription-based option depends on the receiving channel’s subscriptions being public. Ask the destination owner to confirm its setting or choose another permission option.
- Viewers do not appear to move automatically: Autoplay may be disabled, in which case viewers may need to click play. Tell them to wait briefly for the destination to load.
