First, find out which list contains the repeat: a playlist on YouTube, or the separate queue used by a prerecorded-live-streaming service. Then compare video IDs, not just titles. Matching IDs mean the entries point to the same upload; different IDs mean they are separate uploads, which may be intentional alternate versions.
First identify where the duplicate appears
“Playlist” can refer to two different things: a YouTube playlist that viewers can open, or a queue maintained by a service that sends prerecorded videos to YouTube as a live broadcast. They have different controls, so do not remove a YouTube playlist entry until you confirm that the repeat is actually in that playlist.
| Where you see the repeat | What to inspect |
|---|---|
| On the YouTube playlist page or in YouTube Studio | Open that playlist and check its entries. If you manage the channel, confirm you are viewing the intended account and playlist. |
| Only in a streaming service’s queue or preview | Inspect that service’s saved playlist, draft, or scheduled broadcast. Its queue may be separate from the YouTube playlist. |
| In a live broadcast, but not in either list | Check the source playlist and the scheduled event in the service supplying the broadcast. The repeat alone does not establish that YouTube’s playlist contains a duplicate. |
YouTube’s Live Control Room covers stream settings and the encoder feed; a third-party service may separately manage a prerecorded queue. For example, Restream documents adding, removing, or rearranging videos in its own prerecorded playlist before it goes live. That workflow is specific to Restream, not a description of every streaming service. See Restream’s prerecorded-stream playlist guidance and YouTube’s live-stream settings.
Compare video IDs, not titles or thumbnails
Write down each repeated entry’s title, position, channel, and video ID, if available. A playlist can contain separate entries that point to the same upload, while two uploads with nearly identical titles can have different video IDs. YouTube’s API models the playlist entry and the included video as separate resources: each entry has its own playlist-item ID, and the video has its own video ID. The API’s playlistItems list reference describes these fields.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
- Same video ID: The entries point to the same YouTube upload. If one occurrence is unwanted, identify the specific playlist entry before removing it.
- Different video IDs: These are different uploads, even if the names or artwork look alike. A lyric video, live performance, remix, cover, remaster, or alternate source may be intentional; compare the actual content before deleting anything.
Do not infer that two entries are duplicates from matching titles alone. The video ID is the useful identity check; the playlist-item ID identifies the particular occurrence within the list.
Remove only the intended occurrence
In YouTube
- Open the exact playlist that contains the unwanted entry and confirm the account or channel that owns it.
- Locate the repeated occurrence by its position and video ID. If two entries share a video ID, check which occurrence you intend to remove.
- Remove that entry using the playlist’s available controls, or, if using the API, target its playlist-item ID—not the video ID.
- Reload the playlist and confirm that the intended occurrence is gone and the other entries remain.
Google’s PlaylistItems: delete reference says the id parameter specifies the playlist-item ID of the item being deleted. API deletion requires authorization, and some playlist operations may not be supported for particular playlist types; see the YouTube Data API errors and playlistItems implementation details. Confirm the playlist and item before committing a deletion.

In a prerecorded-streaming service
- Open the service’s saved playlist or draft, then compare it with the scheduled event.
- Find the repeated video in the service’s queue and determine whether the repetition is intended.
- Remove or rearrange only the unwanted queue entry using that service’s controls, then verify the scheduled playlist before it goes live.
For Restream’s workflow, its documentation says videos in the prerecorded playlist can be added, removed, or rearranged before going live. Other services may use different labels and behavior.
If the playlist looks clean but the display still repeats entries
Reopen the playlist in another browser or session and check it again. If the stored list appears clean but the same display mismatch persists, record the playlist URL, account or channel, device or browser, time observed, and a screenshot. Those details can help YouTube support investigate; the official documentation does not establish one universal interface bug or account setting that explains every duplicate display.

YouTube documents a videoAlreadyInPlaylist error for an API insertion attempt. That shows a duplicate-related insertion error exists, but it does not explain every repeated entry shown in YouTube’s interface or establish identical behavior for all playlist types. See the API error reference.
Keep live-stream archive guidance separate from playlist cleanup
YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured; it recommends keeping a local archive backup. This concerns whether a stream is captured as an archive, not why a playlist or prerecorded queue shows repeated videos. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
