Start by checking that the YouTube player is unmuted and your device is using the intended speakers or headset. Then play another YouTube video and an unrelated audio source. Those quick tests show whether silence is limited to one stream, YouTube playback, or your device’s audio output; switching videos is not established as a specific cause of sound loss.
Restore sound in the player and check your audio output
- Check YouTube’s volume: In the player, select the speaker icon and raise the volume. Make sure the player is not muted.
- Check the device output: Confirm your computer, phone, or tablet is sending audio to the speakers or headset you intend to use. If you use an external device, check that it is connected and selected as the output.
- Pause and resume: Pause the stream or replay, wait briefly, then resume. If it remains silent, reload the page or reopen the video.
These are basic isolation steps, not a YouTube-documented fix specific to switching videos.
Find out whether the problem is the stream, YouTube, or your device
Test sources in this order and note where sound stops:

- Play a different YouTube video.
- Play audio from a non-YouTube app or website.
- Only the gaming stream is silent: The issue may be limited to that stream or playback session. One viewer’s silence does not establish that the creator’s stream has no audio.
- All YouTube videos are silent, but other audio works: Focus on YouTube playback and your browser or app.
- Other audio is silent too: Check the device’s selected output and system audio settings.
Try YouTube’s general playback recovery steps
YouTube’s computer playback guidance recommends several general steps when playback is not working correctly. The exact labels and controls can vary by browser, app, and device.

- Close and reopen the browser, then try the stream again.
- Close extra browser tabs and update your browser.
- Restart your device if the problem continues.
- Try another supported device. If practical, test a different internet connection as well; this can help isolate an unstable playback session, though missing sound alone does not prove a connection problem.
If the problem persists, reproduce it and use YouTube’s in-product “Help and Feedback” or “Send feedback” option. Its label may vary by app or device version. YouTube’s general viewer guidance is at Troubleshoot streaming & video issues – Computer.
When the stream itself may have no audio
Ask whether other viewers can hear the same stream, preferably viewers using different devices or connections. If several viewers report silence, the channel owner or a moderator should investigate the stream being sent to YouTube rather than assuming each viewer has the same local fault.

- Listen to the encoder’s output and inspect YouTube’s live dashboard and stream health.
- If the encoder output is silent or poor, check the audio and video sources routed to the encoder. YouTube Help says: “If your stream looks or sounds bad, there may be a problem with the quality of your audio and the video sources routed to your encoder.”
- If the encoder output sounds healthy, investigate the outbound internet connection.
YouTube documents noAudioStream as a health issue for an incoming live stream without audio. That is a creator-side ingestion diagnosis; it does not show that a particular viewer’s browser or player failure has the same cause.
