First find out whether the silence is local to one viewer or present in the stream for everyone. If it is local, check YouTube’s player, browser, device, and audio output. If multiple viewers hear it—or the published VOD contains the gap—inspect the VOD transition, encoder audio sources, and YouTube Live Control Room for an ingest error. YouTube’s published guidance covers general playback and live-stream audio problems; it does not establish a specific defect or setting for silence between successive VODs.
1. Find out where the silence occurs
Replay the same timestamp and compare what you hear with another viewer or device. If possible, compare the YouTube replay with the creator’s local recording. This separates a playback problem on one device from a problem that is already in the stream or recording.
- Only one viewer or device is affected: start with player, browser, system sound, and output-device checks.
- Several viewers hear the gap, or the VOD itself is silent: investigate the source recording, encoder routing, and stream ingest.
This is a diagnostic approach, not a YouTube rule. A gap at a VOD boundary could arise at several points in the chain, and the available YouTube guidance does not identify one cause for this exact symptom.
2. If only one viewer hears silence
Try these checks before changing the creator’s encoder settings:
#1 Best Overall
- [XLR Mic Input] One XLR microphone input interface is set on the gaming audio mixer, which is great to up your audio quality with your XLR setup. The XLR mixer is a stepping stone to upgrade your live streaming. Audio mixer offered built-in 48V phantom power which opens up more choices for mics. Directly use it with your condenser microphone but do not solve added peripherals. (NOT available for USB mic)
- [Individual Channel Control] Gaming audio mixer for one mic recording with smooth volume slider fader take your streaming recording to a whole new level with full pleasure. Four independent channels set on the DJ mixer give audio volume of the MICROPHONE, LINE IN, HEADPHONE, and LINE OUT channels individual control. Configurable on the PC audio mixer instead of just operating on your game or streaming software.
- [Mute and Monitor] The front mute and monitor buttons but not at the back, make it easier to get the audio interface use. Ability to mute audio, the audio mixer for streaming prevents background noise from damaging your live broadcast. Real-time feedback between speaking and hearing will not distract your attention, which encourage you to speak more confidently. The sturdy-built control button allow you to operate freely and easily during live streaming.
- [Sound Effects] The computer sound mixer supports four pre-recorded customized button that can be recorded and activated at the press of button to post production. 6 kinds of voice changing modes change your output style. 12 auto tune changes the tone of your voice. The podcast mixer being able to add different and fun effects is a huge bonus for your streaming or game voice.
- [Controllable Vibrant RGB] RGB button on the audio mixer DJ meets different live streaming themes. Lights on the video mixer is vibrant but not harsh on your eyes. Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
- Make sure the YouTube player is not muted and raise its volume.
- Check the browser’s and device’s sound settings. Confirm that audio is going to the intended output device, such as the selected speakers or headphones.
- Replay the same point in another browser or on another supported device.
- Restart the browser or device, then replay the timestamp.
YouTube’s playback guidance recommends checking browser or device sound, reviewing device sound settings, and restarting the browser or device: How to fix no sound on YouTube.
3. If the gap affects multiple viewers or appears in the VOD
Inspect the affected segment and local recording
Replay the published VOD around the exact handoff between videos. Compare it with the creator’s local archive, if one was recorded. If both are silent at the same point, check whether the source video itself has a silent interval or whether the encoder stopped receiving the intended audio. If the local archive sounds normal but the published VOD does not, continue checking the encoder and YouTube ingest rather than assuming the source file is at fault.

- Ultra-low noise analog mixer for streaming, podcasting and recording
- Stereo USB audio interface to connect your computer or mobile device
Check encoder audio sources and meters
In the encoder, inspect the sources intended to be audible—such as game, desktop, and microphone audio—and confirm that each is routed to the stream and showing activity when expected. Pay particular attention to the transition: a source may be audible during one VOD but absent, muted, or not routed when the next begins.
Review encoder errors and CPU load, and listen to the encoder output or local archive. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking routed audio/video sources, encoder errors and CPU load, and the local output; if that output is healthy, investigate the outbound internet connection: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.

- Equipped with a single mic input (XLR or ¼"), two LINE inputs for guitar and keyboard, and USB-C input for connecting to a computer
Check YouTube Live Control Room and the audio stream
Look for audio-related messages in Live Control Room. YouTube documents ingest errors when an encoder sends no audio stream or sends multiple audio streams. For RTMP/RTMPS guidance, YouTube lists AAC and MP3 as supported audio codecs. Its no-audio error text says, “Your encoder is sending no audio.” See Live streaming error messages.
If you are checking encoder settings, YouTube’s current Help guidance recommends 128 Kbps stereo audio for RTMP/RTMPS. That is a configuration recommendation, not evidence that audio bitrate causes silence at a VOD boundary. See Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

4. Test the transition before the next rerun
- Prepare a private or unlisted test that uses the same game audio, microphone or desktop routing, and encoder setup as the rerun.
- Include the actual handoff between the two VODs; testing only the middle of one video will not check the point where the silence occurs.
- Listen to the encoder output and inspect the local archive, then check the Live Control Room preview.
- Monitor audio and video during the test and confirm that sound continues across the transition.
YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement representative of the intended stream and monitoring audio and video continuously. Applying that advice to the VOD handoff is a practical way to reproduce this particular symptom: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and Streaming tips.
5. Common symptoms and what to check next
| What you find | Next check |
|---|---|
| One viewer hears silence; others do not | Check that viewer’s player volume, browser and device sound, selected output device, and another browser or device. |
| The published VOD and local archive are both silent | Check the source segment and whether the encoder’s intended audio sources remain routed and active through the handoff. |
| The local archive sounds normal, but viewers hear the published gap | Review encoder errors, Live Control Room audio messages, and the stream’s audio configuration; then investigate the outbound connection if encoder output is healthy. |
| Live Control Room reports no audio or multiple audio streams | Correct the encoder’s audio stream configuration and confirm it is sending a supported audio stream. |
| The gap occurs only at the VOD handoff | Run a representative test of that exact transition and compare the preview, encoder output, local archive, and published replay. |
These checks help locate the break; none by itself proves the cause. The cited YouTube pages do not document a specific “between VODs” rerun defect.

Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel that needs to loop uploaded videos continuously, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It supports uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.
