To identify who claimed an Indian classical music loop, open the video’s claim details in YouTube Studio and select See details under Content used. The name shown under Claimant is the party asserting the claim—not a determination by YouTube that the party owns the music. Check the claimed asset, matched timestamps, territories, and policy before deciding what the claim covers.
First determine whether it was a live interruption or an archive claim
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content while they are running. Depending on the match, it may warn you, replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. If you archive the stream, YouTube says Content ID claims on that archive are applied after the stream ends. A licensed live stream can still be interrupted if the rights owner has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance explains these different stages.

A Content ID claim is not itself a copyright strike. A copyright takedown is a separate process: a valid removal request can remove the video and result in a strike. In Studio, check whether YouTube labels the matter a claim or a copyright takedown. YouTube’s overview of copyright claims describes the distinction.

- Open YouTube Studio and find the live-stream archive, if one exists.
- Open its copyright or claim details and select See details under Content used.
- Record the claimant name, claimed content or asset title, matched segment and timestamps, territories, and the claim policy or restrictions shown in Studio.
Do not assume the first claimant listed represents every right in the video. A video may have multiple claimants for different segments or territories. The displayed claimant is the party asserting the claim; YouTube says it cannot determine who owns the relevant rights. An unfamiliar name alone does not prove the claim is invalid.

Work out whether the claim concerns the composition or the recording
A music loop can implicate more than one rights layer. The sound recording is the particular captured performance or master recording. A record label often holds master rights, while a distributor or another administrator may act for it; arrangements can vary by territory. The musical composition is the underlying work, such as the tune and lyrics. Publishers and collecting societies may administer composition rights. These roles can belong to different parties. YouTube’s music-rights overview explains the distinction.
Indian government copyright guidance says the composer is ordinarily the author of a musical work and the producer is the author of a sound recording. A musical recording can also involve lyricists, composers, singers, instrumental performers, and producers as right holders. An old raga, traditional melody, or composition therefore does not make every modern performance or recording free to use. A claim for a new performance may concern that specific recording even if the underlying composition is old. See the Government of India’s Basics of Copyright.
Compare the matched asset with the loop you streamed
Compare the audio you used with the claimed asset and the exact timestamps Studio identifies. Check whether the match appears to be the same recording, the underlying composition, or merely a similar-sounding performance. Use asset metadata as clues, not as proof of ownership: YouTube specifies title, artist, and record label as minimum metadata for a sound recording or music video reference; for a composition reference, the minimum is title and writer. Additional identifying metadata can help distinguish works.

Content ID reference eligibility also matters. YouTube says a reference owner must have exclusive rights to the material in each territory where it claims ownership, and the reference content must be sufficiently distinct. Its examples of ineligible references include public-domain content, karaoke recordings, remasters, sound-alike recordings, and soundbeds or production loops. A match is a reason to investigate; it is not, by itself, a ruling that the reference is eligible or that the claimant’s ownership is correct. See YouTube’s Content ID eligibility guidance.
Check whether the claimant is connected to the specific rights
Use the asset title and any identifiers shown in Studio to look for the label, producer, publisher, distributor, performer, or collecting society connected to that particular work. Check that the candidate’s role fits the claimed layer and territory: a master-rights administrator is not automatically the composition administrator, and authority in one territory does not establish authority everywhere.
For Indian composition rights, the Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) is one relevant lead: it says it administers musical works and associated lyrics. Its website states that the Government renewed its copyright-society registration on 21 January 2025, retrospectively from 28 November 2022, for five years from registration. That describes IPRS’s stated remit and registration status; it does not establish that IPRS represents the particular composition in your claim or owns its recording. See IPRS’s licensing information.
India’s Copyright Office says copyright arises automatically and registration is not a prerequisite. It also says registration entries serve as prima facie evidence in court. Therefore, not finding a registration entry does not alone prove that a work is uncopyrighted or that a claimant lacks rights. The relevant question is whether the claimant can establish authority over the specific asset and territory.
Use the claim details to compare plausible rights holders
| What to compare | What to check |
|---|---|
| Asset layer | Is the claim for the composition, the exact sound recording, or another identified asset? |
| Segment | Which timestamps or portion of the loop are matched? |
| Territory | Which countries or regions does this claimant’s assertion cover? |
| Metadata | Do title, writer, artist, label, or producer details match the specific work? |
| Authority chain | Is the named party the owner, or an authorized administrator, distributor, publisher, or collecting society for this asset and territory? |
| Evidence | What do your licence, release information, agreements, or the rights holder’s confirmation establish? |
More than one party may have relevant rights, and claimants can differ by segment or territory. Without the Studio details, audio identification, territory, licence, and relevant performer, producer, or distribution agreements, it is not possible to establish who owns a particular loop or whether its claim is valid.

If YouTube interrupted a licensed live stream
Contact the rights owner and ask them to add your channel to their Content ID allowlist. YouTube says a licensed stream may still be interrupted without allowlisting, even if you believe your licence covers only certain territories. Keep the licence and the owner’s allowlisting confirmation with your records.

If Studio shows a claim on the archived stream
Preserve the claim details and your supporting evidence before taking action. YouTube lists having the necessary rights, a qualifying copyright exception, or believing the video was misidentified or matched in error as possible grounds for disputing a claim. The claimant—not YouTube—reviews the initial dispute and has 30 days to respond. If the claimant rejects it, the claim may remain; a valid removal request can remove the video and give your channel a strike. YouTube says it cannot adjudicate ownership, so dispute only when you have a real rights or identification basis. Read YouTube’s dispute guidance before proceeding.
Credit to the artist, owning a copy of the recording, or choosing not to monetize the stream does not establish permission and is not, by itself, a valid reason to dispute a claim under YouTube’s guidance.

Or let it run in the cloud
If the loop is properly cleared for your channel, StreamNeo can keep a YouTube stream running from uploaded videos without leaving a computer or home connection on. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo does not clear music rights or prevent a valid copyright claim; confirm you have the necessary rights before streaming. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
